Freshman 15 is a pop rock punk act that has recently released their debut efforts that has been rising eye brows everywhere in sight as these new comers are making their mark anywhere and everywhere possible getting their name out and recognized as much as possible. The band discusses with me their upcoming plans and what their newest accomplishment is all about.
1. Could you give me a brief summary on how the band first started?
I accidentally signed us up for a battle of the bands our Sophomore year of high school! I had gathered three dudes together and we covered Blink's "All The Small Things," and SR-71s "Right Now," We won!!!!
2. What can you tell me about your new record?
Ten tracks of non-stop amazement! Ha Kidding...kind of. John Naclerio produced it and we both had a very clear vision of how we wanted the cd to turn out. Both us and Naclerio couldn't be more stoked on "Throw Up Your Hands For One Night Stands."
3. How did you end up on Standby Records?
We had our EP called "5 Ways to Get to Third Base," recorded with Naclerio. Standby heard and said "Let's make a a full length and make you guys huge!" That didn't sound like too bad of an idea so we signed! haha
4. Any good advice you've gotten of these bands who have been doing this forever?
Not really! We've pretty much used all of our own knowledge up this point. When we first started out we read online what our heroes like Blink and New Found did. Tour, tour and tour!
5. What's next for you guys?
We are touring the east coast and mid west in April with Goot and The In Crowd! And then we are touring again in May. Since we just released the full length we are going to be on the road non-stop and we honestly wouldn't have it any other way!
6. Do you think there are any bands in particular that influenced this album?
We try to emulate bands but of course you hear influences. Just like everyone, once Four Year Strong came out and did poppy breakdowns, we loved that! So we do that because it's fun! For the most part people say Blink, which we take as an amazing compliment!
7. How would you best describe a Freshman 15 show?
Fun!!!! Lots of jumping, swear words, bad jokes and craziness. I feel like kids go to shows to forget their problems....so why not say dumb stuff and make an ass of yourself while giving them catchy melodies to sing along to. If they've had a crappy day it might help them.
8. What are some pop punk bands people should look out for?
Other than us?! Ha Our friends down here in GA. 1994, The In Crowd, and The Soundtrack are bands that I can't stop listening to right now.
9. Have you guys thought of touring with Count Your Blessings and Red Car Wire, noticed those two acts are in the same boat musicwise.
Absolutely! I can tell you something is in the works right now...but I can't say what! Ssshhhh....
