Modern day rock n' roll never felt so good.... because it's actually very healthy for you it's the new case of New Medicine. Building their musical career based on nothing but music, New Medicine see's to it that they become the next best thing within the rock category. Doing whatever they possibly can to tour, and play music for as long as the fans ask for it they will be there to get the job done! Besides that the band is in proudest peek for the release of their debut LP "Race You To The Bottom" that's due on September 28th. As bassist Matthew Brady says "f you don't have the new album, "Race You to the Bottom," which is in stores Sept. 28th, GET IT!" He is whom spoke with me about the band's beginning, current affairs and where they'll likely end up next.
1. What type of band are you?
Matthew: Modern day rock 'n roll.
2. How did you get your band name? Does it have any significance?
Matthew: People everywhere have all kinds of medicine that they turn to--cigarettes, alcohol, etc; music has always been our medicine.
3. When and why did your band form?
Matthew: New Medicine has been touring in this current format for about two years. All we do is play and write music, so it was a necessary career choice.
4. Who are your musical influences?
Matthew: All kinds of music - Rage Against the Machine, Tom Petty, Nirvana, The Beastie Boys, Queen, Rise Against, Bad Religion, Hail the Villain, even Katy Perry.
5. How do you describe your music to people?
Matthew: Catchy, bad-ass rock 'n roll!
6. Who writes the songs, what are they about?
Matthew: Most of the songs are written about our lives, whether that be girls and parties or growing up in this fucked up recession trying to survive.
7. How did you end up signing to Photo Finish Records?
Matthew: We played a show in New York at the Fillmore at Union Square and Photo Finish came out to it. We had done a bunch of formal showcase previous to that, but none of them were the right fit. After Matt saw the show and we met with him it was history.
8. What can you tell me about your debut album, "Race You To The Bottom" that's coming out at the end of this month?
Matthew: It is the proudest moment of our career. This album has been in the works for over a year; we've recorded dozens of songs that didn't make the cut, and after all of our hard work we have something that we really believe in. It's been great.
9. What inspires you to do what you do?
Matthew: All the energy we put into touring and recording gets pumped back at us at the shows. Playing the music and feeling the crowd is what fuels us to do what we do. Come see a show and meet us, because we fucking love doing what we do.
10. How about this touring cycle that you're on, how has it been going and how does it feel to be a part of the first installment of this year's Uproar Festival?
Matthew: Obviously we're stoked. It's the longest tour we've ever done, with some of the largest crowds we've ever played for - and we get to do it on a bus. It's been amazing. Every day has been a twelve hour day, and its two straight months of being away from home... but we all agree that as soon as we lay down at the end of the tour we'll be itching to get back out.
11. What else can we expect from you guys as far as 2010 goes? What about 2011?
Matthew: Gold records, Japan, Brazil! We're going to keep touring and doing what we do. As long as you guys love the music we'll be there to rock.
12. Have any last words?
Matthew: If you don't have the new album, "Race You to the Bottom," which is in stores Sept. 28th, GET IT!
