October 2010

Founded just two years ago, York, North Yorkshire, Englander's Asking Alexandria broke out into the music scene when Ben Bruce (lead guitar) had contacted some old friends after his return to English from Dubai. As for today, the current line-up of Ben Bruce, Danny Worsnop (vocals), Cameron Liddell (rhythm guitar), Sam Bettley (bass guitar) and James Cassells (drums). Over the years of their musical career the band put out a self-released EP titled "Tomorrow. Hope. Goodbye." After its arrival the band began to gain quite the recognition from the national and the international outlets. Resulting in record deals with Sonicwave Intentional in the U.S. and Hangman’s Joke Recording's in the U.K. Whilst doing all of this, the band released a full-length album "The Irony of Your Perfection" via their U.K. label following that release came a nine-mouth trek of touring but sadly this tour never came into full view. Once the aftermath had departed, Bruce had decided to start fresh once again and from this day forth "Stand Up and Scream" would be their calling.

So after gathering everything up and having a refreshing start, Asking Alexandria spent the 08/09 years touring as well as finding themselves getting signed onto Sumerian Records after finishing recording and writing their latest release "Stand Up and Scream". The album goes without saying that it's built on a solid ground of guitar riffs with double bass drifts that keeps the music rolling, rolling, and rolling. Thus "Final Episode (Let's Change the Channel)", has a rather catchy chorus structure that reads "Just stand up and scream, the tainted clock is counting down (faster, and faster)" which sums up the album's name. "Hey There Mr. Brooks", features a guest appearance of Alesana's Shawn Milke who adds a rather in-depth approach to what lyrical feature this tune revolves around which is the film, Mr. Brooks which it is based off of.

"I Used to Have a Best Friend (But Then He Gave Me an STD)", is a question mark indeed because as the title says "He" gave me an STD" brings to mind if Asking Alexandria may be unaware of their sexuality or perhaps there just poking fun whichever the case, this song is filled with rattling guitar riffs with over the top fast yet bouncy vocals that makes the music pop.

"Stand Up and Scream", showcases who Asking Alexandria is and what they have achieved but just how far do you think they can go? Only a matter of time before “Reckless and Relentless” vengeful appearance….

Three years have passed since we last heard anything from Norwegian black metallers Dimmu Borgir. In 2007 their eighth studio album to date "In Sorte Diaboli", was released now it's time for what's awaiting on the horizon, "Abrahadabra". This goes into saying that since the departure of ICS Vortex (bass and clean vocals), Musits (keyboard), and Hellhammer (drums) that Dimmu Borgir have been up to nothing but keeping busy. As such, this ninth release has been in production for eleven months featuring numerous amounts of additions to boot - such as orchestra as well as even having a choir. Shagrath has even returned to do his role of not only vocalizing but performing duties for the keyboarding post. With all of this material out in the open, "Abrahadabra", has become a one worded album title as to their other releases being three worded titles.

As far as this album is concerned its production is superb in every way possible sounding better than anything that this band has put forth in a long time. As such, "Xibir", is the instrumental yet symphonic opener for the album that generates a demonic yet haunting sensation that builds the music up, up, up. Soon after the song's departure "Born Treacherous", starts with a distorted guitar riff with thunderous bass beats that is overpowered by Shagrath's vocal attics. The orchestra comes right along while the drums keep in tone with the temp having it going fast but heavy from start to finish. "Gateways", was the leading single off this album that featured front-woman, Agnete Kjølsrud of Djerv who adds an additional effect that keeps this music progressive yet quite pulsing.

Now here is a tune you'd likely hear, a self-titled tune but don't get me wrong there have been these beforehand but one titled after the band is quite alluring. Obviously this song has a high anticipation for its results and surely it does not disappoint. The song in close has some clean vocals with choir sections that allow the keyboardist to shine right on through taking this song to a melody driven path that directs the whole thing into its proper alignment. "Abrahadabra", ends up becoming a solid piece of work rounding up with such tunes as "The Demiurge Molecule", and "A Jewel Traced through Coal", extract that solid ground material that makes this album so addictive yet so impulsive.

After annihilating the masses on the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Fest all summer long Southern California's purveyors of pain, WINDS OF PLAGUE, return to further spread their carnage across North America this winter on the “December Decimation” headlining tour. This stellar bill, presented by Merch Warehouse and Fight Magazine, is jammed packed with cutting edge brutality that makes this the must see event of the winter for metalheads across the nation. The trek, which kicks off on Nov. 26th and wraps up on Dec. 23rd at the third annual December Decimation Fest at The Glasshouse in Pomona, CA, also features After The Burial, Carnifex, War of Ages and Upon A Burning Body.

WINDS OF PLAGUE is currently holed up in Los Angeles with renowned producer Matt Hyde (Slayer, Hatebreed) tracking what is easily going to be their career defining opus. This is the band's most cohesive and focused offering yet and is currently set for an early 2011 release through Century Media Records. Stay tuned over the coming weeks to the band's MySpace page for an in-depth webisode series giving a very candid, sneak peek into the recording process.

Johnny Plague (vocals) further states: “Coming off of Mayhem (the biggest tour of our career) was inspiring to say the least. Literally, the day after Mayhem Fest ended we were in the studio hard at work on new material. Fast forward a few weeks and we are now into week one of the recording process for our new album (yet to be named). We set out with producer Matt Hyde to raise the bar for WINDS OF PLAGUE both as a band and as musicians. We put a lot of our writing focus into the energy and the structure of the songs and everything else just seemed to fall into place naturally."

Although it is early in the recording process I can confidently say this will be our best offering yet. Both fans of Decimate The Weak and The Great Stone War will be pleased for we haven’t altered the formula or strayed from our roots, but injected them with rage and fury. The game certainly will change in 2011. See you all on the road soon.

WINDS OF PLAGUE has changed the landscape of heavy music upon release of their highly acclaimed, vicious new album, The Great Stone War, which made an impressive debut in its first week landing at #73 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. The offering quickly propelled the band to the forefront of the American metal scene and serve as a much needed wake up call to the genre.

For the past two years Pennsylvanian goth rockers, Motionless In White have played off all they can of what's left of their EP starter "When Love Met Destruction" (2009). Now that they are on the brink of releasing their debut full-length "Creatures" it’s all left in the hands of the creators known only as Motionless In White. Leading vocalist Chris spoke to me via email to discuss the band’s current plans, what is to become of them and where it will all end up next.

1. First let’s just get the basics down and introduce yourself to an audience who may not have heard of your band yet. How did Motionless In White begin and what was the motivation for creating this project?

Chris:  We started actually about 6 years ago with a way different lineup as a result of meeting each other in school and then wanting to start a band. Over the years we've had a lot of lineup changed to get where we are now and our motivation has always been the same since day one. We wanted to really try and do something different that no one else was doing at the time to try to define our own sound. After writing tons of songs over those years I feel like we finally got the job done with our new record Creatures.

2. How about touring it seems like that’s all you've been up to since your EP "When Love Met Destruction" was released in 2009. Where do get the time to write new material?

Chris: Yea we've been touring almost nonstop for a long time. We usually tour for a month and then break for a month then tour then break so it’s like a rhythm we have going and in all those month breaks is when we have time to write everything.  Our drummer, bassist Ricky and I wrote everything for the new record in all of that time off and then as we got closer to recording we spent a lot of time crammed in the van getting some last minute sorting done. It was hectic but we work really hard for what we do and didn’t want to waste a second on trying to make this record as good as it could've been.

3. Speaking of "new" material your debut album "Creatures" is due out on October 12th how does it differ to your EP?

Chris:  It's just so much more evolved than any of our earlier stuff.  I feel like in the past we always knew what we wanted to do but couldn't quite achieve it… kind of like when you’re having a conversation with someone and know what you want to say but can’t figure out the words ya know? We finally just really pushed ourselves to trim the fat and not just let things slide cause they we're "good enough"... we wanted every part of every aspect to be perfect and I’m happy with it. There are a lot of different musical elements within each of these songs where as in our past work it was more so we were doing different things but each song has a specific style. It's a lot heavier and a lot faster.

4. How have the fans been reacting to the new material positive or negative responses?

Chris:  So far so good. The tour we are on now is our second tour playing new stuff and the song we have called “Abigail”, seems to make the crowd go off harder than any song we played live ever. It’s rough to play songs to people that they don't know but this song doesn’t seem to matter cause people just go insane regardless instead of just standing there waiting for the next song that they know.

5. Can we expect to hear a lot of the new stuff on the upcoming tours you have lined up?

Chris:  Yep… we are mixing a good amount of old with the new. I feel like we've been playing these songs for two years and people have seen us multiple times so it's a good opportunity to put some new ones in the list to change up the monotony.

6. What about those tours you got two back to back? The Entertainment Or Death Tour w/ Black Veil Brides and William Control and then the Average Guys With Exceptional Hair Tour, what do you hope to accomplish with all of this touring?

Chris:  I just want to get the new record out there. I don't care about the actual sales aspect of making money off of our music but I really do want kids to buy our record to get it out there and get these songs to people. I'm really proud of this record so I want these two tours to help distribute our music to as many people as possible.

 7. Could you tell me about "Creatures" is there a story behind the title and the artwork?

Chris: “Creatures” is about our fans. We wanted to give the people that support us the assurance that they are being acknowledged as the reason that we are a band and making music. I feel like too many bands take their fans for granted and don't do enough to show them how much they mean and I want to be that band that lets them know that we aren't doing this for god or for any other reason except for them. I feel like a majority of our fans are kids just like us who have a hard time making it through the world because of the way they look or music they listen to, so the artwork is supposed to symbolize that we are a unified mass of people (or in this case creatures haha) and we are all rising up together.

8. What can be expected from listening to this album? Did you try anything new?

Chris: Yea this kind of goes along with what I said earlier about feeling that we defined our sound as a band. Everything you are going to hear is unique to our band that I feel like when you listen to it you will know that it’s MIW. So many different elements of music have been put into these songs that I think it will defy labeling us into a genre.

9. How does it feel to be a part of the Fearless Records family?

Chris:  Really awesome. I've mentioned in other interviews before about how we knew before we signed that Fearless had a really good reputation for treating their bands great instead of many of the labels you hear horror stories about. We are an extremely honest band and wanted to sign with and extremely honest label. I can't say that I think we would belong anywhere else.

10. Can we expect a new music video anytime soon?

Chris: I HOPE SO!!! We really want to make one for our song “Abigail”, but I guess we’ll have to see how the record does first.

11. Last year you did a cover of Rob Zombie's "Dragula" why?

Chris: That was while we were writing our record and were still a long way away from recording it and we felt that people were starting to get bored with our songs we already had online. It was coming up on Halloween time and we figured what better of a way to do something special than to record a cover as like a "Halloween present" to our fans. We almost instantly all decided on Dragula because that song is SO badass and fits our band really well and Rob Zombie is a big influence of ours. I was really nervous about how I was going to pull of the vocals but I just went in there with the intent to kill and I guess I did a good enough job since people thought that it wasn’t even me singing it haha.

12. So what else can be expected from Motionless In White as far as the rest of this year goes? How about 2011?

Chris: We're just going to keep touring and playing as much as we can and pushing this record.  We’ll have our month off in December and going to work on a new set list and just get ready for the upcoming tours afterwards. Our biggest hope for 2011 would be Warped Tour for sure.

13. Do you have any last words?

Chris:  Just want to say thank you so much to the people who have been helping support this band! It means the world to us to be able to do this stuff with music and we hope everyone will pick up the new record when it comes out!

Once known as WhipKraft a change of pace was made and now the once gothic industrial act is now a brutalizing black/death metal set called Killing Moon. Who discuss their beginning’s middle’s and up-and-coming’s come the New Year. So be warned but be ready. Front woman Vena Kava and percussionist Hammer Ash talked to me through email about who, what, and where Killing Moon shall end up come 2011.

1. You were formally named, WhipKraft but changed your name to Killing Moon why the change of pace?

It was a huge change for us, but a very necessary one. We were letting go of one genre and moving to the next. We started out as a Gothic/ industrial metal band in San Francisco in 2004 calling ourselves WhipKraft, it was very appropriate for us. We actually had a synthesizer player and the "craft" was there.  However, as we evolved as musicians so did our music. Killing Moon represents what we are doing now, which is purely brutal black/death metal!!!!

2. Since the name change you've released several albums and singles, could you tell me about your last release?

Our last release was a double track album called 'Twilight Holocaust,' it is when we realized we were heading in the right direction, it is when everything came together and we were able to tap into the vein of pure eternal darkness. From there on began our apocalyptic vision. It was a significant departure from our very first album "Welcome to the Chapel Perilous.'  Btw, the song Twilight Holocaust also has a music video that can be found on Youtube.

3. Who are you and your band members? Tell your story, for those who may not have heard of you.

Currently we are Vena Kava, Darren O'Brien, and Hammer Ash.  We have other musicians we work with in the studio to fill in the gaps. We started out in San Francisco, so the entire lineup changed when the band moved to Boston.  Vena Kava is the only original member from day one.  When Vena moved to Boston she recruited a entire new lineup, it's as if it was a different band, and in most ways it was.

4. So what has the band been up since that release, your currently looking for a new drummer according to your MySpace?

There is so much going on right now that it's really hard to capture in one paragraph. The fact is that we are trying to finish up our album, most songs are in production mode right now, there are a few that are mixed and mastered, but there is still plenty of work there! We were looking for a new drummer, but there are some events coming up that will change everything, some very big stuff!  So stay tuned!

5. Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? Do you think these topics will change over time?

The songs are written by Vena Kava and Darren O'Brien, or in the Twilight Holocaust double track Michael Desmond and Vena Kava. We believe in eternal damnation of all human kind, the last apocalyptic day, the suffering and hell of all living things, the injustice of tyrants and the servants who suffer without mercy.  There is no hope for our world due to the ignorance of humankind.  It's quite an awful fate in fact.  We live in a world where there is everything, yet many have nothing. There is shit that happens to people every second, every day. People are murdered, enslaved, raped, beaten, betrayed, degraded and to many if it's not their country or someone they know, they put a distance, as if it were not real - watching it comfortably in high definition in their living rooms. It's time to realize, "NO, everything is NOT alright.  This world is living hell there is change that needs to happen because already we are doomed! Our music embodies these elements.  No, we don't see any changes to these topics.

6. What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?

Currently our genre could be considered death with some black metal influences. We like Slayer, Behemoth, Dimmu Borgir, Absu, Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, Children of Bodom, Vader, Iced Earth, Megadeth, Rammstein, Fear of God, Symphony X, Opeth, Iron Maiden, Blind Guardian, to name a few.

7. How did you end up getting signed with RR Records?

Rakehell Records is run by our manager, he was once part of the band, it's mostly specifically supports our endeavors these days, although he had a few other bands.

8. What inspires you to do what you do?

I think about this often and I think i came to the realization that we are probably genetically programmed to do this, haha.

9. So 2010 for Killing Moon is pretty much wrapped up? How about 2011 what will be on the horizon?

We do have a surprise for you guys and girls; it’s going to be big! I know many people may say that, but we’re serious. Check back early next year and see for yourself.

10. Do you have anything else you'd like to say?

Thank you so much Natalie for your time, may our paths one day cross.

First Blood ramps up for their highly-anticipated sophomore release entitled "Silence Is Betrayal" (November 9, 2010) on Bullet Tooth, the new headquarters of Josh Grabelle from the renown Trustkill Records. Featuring 15 songs of musical devastation and lyrical condemnation, First Blood relights the flame and burning spirit that originally brought the band together. "Silence Is Betrayal lays it all out on the table with a point of view that leaves little to misinterpretation" is how Carl Schwartz (Vocals) describes the strong lyrical focus of challenging the status quo, while remaining every bit as true-to-sound to the brutal musical aggression that many have come to expect of First Blood. "Silence Is Betrayal is every bit as heavy and abrasive as First Blood gets, complete with a war-torn soundtrack of armageddon breakdowns and relentless sing-along calls to action."

Schwartz also added, "This album is a story of the last four years of my life along with the events, ideas, and people that helped shape it. I had to release this album, because my own silence would be betrayal to those before me who have spoken, sacrificed, and devoted so much to keep their messages of truth, justice, and resistance alive. My goal was to lay it all on the table with each song, and put aside my concern about whether or not those who listen will ridicule, disagree, or take offense. The message had to be clear, and emotions must be stirred, because such response is vital if people are to discuss and keep these issues at the forefront, and maybe even find the inspiration to take action to share them with others."

"We've spent the last four years touring with our debut record "Killafornia" in as many parts of the world that would be willing to receive our music. After such a long gap between our first album and release of the new, we are really excited to be able to continue touring new parts of the world with many great bands and sharing our message with hardcore generations old and new. I soon realized after writing 20 songs that the only way to say everything I intended would be to release a 'triple' album. Perhaps that is a sign of good things yet still to come for FIRST BLOOD."

"We are super psyched to release our newest album 'Silence Is Betrayal" on BULLET TOOTH and let the world know that FIRST BLOOD lives on."

Tracklisting:
01. Intro
02. Silence
03. Preamble
04. Enemy

10. Fear
11. Occupation [BONUS]
12. Fascism [BONUS]

A new breed of darkness is upon is and it isn’t a pretty sight. Pennsylvanian’s Motionless In White drew in their legion of fans with the debut release of their EP “When Love Met Destruction” (2009). Now with the release of yet another debut, this time an LP “Creatures”, there is no telling as to how far this darkness will seep into our skin.

Whilst this release has been in high demand, Motionless In White have been hard at work getting everything just right. Now then, “Creatures” entwines the gothic realm with an industrial boost of brutalizing breakdowns with intensifying guitar riffs that just makes this music shiver and shout. Shout being the case for the vocal portion that is given on this long overdue release. With that said, the band’s love for horror movies, myths, and the vampire culture has made such tracks as “We Only Come Out At Night”, “Cobwebs”, and “Undead Ahead’ the most ghoulish.

It is indeed noticeable that the band has grown a part from their EP structure and expanded into a more in-depth reality of darkness that, the previous release just couldn’t quite cover. “Creatures” is hands down an anticipated release that has been highly overdue but now that the wait is over, Motionless In White await your approval.

American teen actresses and singer songwriter Emily Jordan Osment best known as Lilly Truscott on the Disney nominated sitcom Hannah Montana has made quite the name for herself. Not only has she become a pop icon from the Pop Diva Miley Cyrus's Hannah Montana character but has also gained a fame in other outlets, co-starring in Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over. She also starred as Cassie in R.L. Stine's: The Haunting Hour Vol. 1: Don't Think About It and most recent addition Melissa Morris on Disney Channel's movie Dadnapped. Osment has expanded her acting career in wanting to go whole a whole another route in the ways of music.

Just as her pop counter partner Miley Cyrus's has done, Emily Osment has gone the alternative indie rock route with such hits as "I Don't Think About It,” and "If I Didn't Have You". Co-star Mitchel Musso joined Osment in most recent release "Once Upon a Dream". "All the Right Wrongs" was Osment's debut EP that did quite well for what it was but after exposing herself to the alternative indie rock scene Osment went on to do a continuation with the release of her debut full-length "Fight or Flight", released via Wind-up Records. After beginning work on the album in late 2009 into early 2010 she worked with producers Toby Gad (Fergie, Beyonce) Nellee Hooper (Janet Jackson, Gwen Stefani) and Mandi Perkins to get everything just right. "Let's Be Friends" turned out to be the leading single off the album that has gotten quite the buzz since its release. As such the tune provides a rather upbeat yet snazzy beat with powerful in-depth vocals with covering lyrics that makes the music bounce in every possible direction.

"Lovesick", happens to be yet another indie rock driven tune that really captures Osment's approach to what style of music she is going with here. Her style blends the same attics as Hannah Montana does with her material except add on a little Selena Gomez and you pretty much get the picture. Another mentionable tunes include, "You Get Me Through" as well as "Truth or Dare", "Double Talk", and "All the Boys Want".

Emily Osment’s debut EP had given us a glimpse into what would become of her now that we have the results thus far, there is little telling as to where it will all end up next.
