Austrian death/black metallers Belphegor have been together for 20 long years, over the course of their musical careers, they've released nine studio albums, four demo/EP releases, and a live album, along with a series of music videos to complete the whole package deal. But as it turns out the band's ninth release "Blood Magick Necromance", is their heaviest yet. Just two years after the release of "Walpurgis Rites – Hexenwahn", the band went off to write and record this ninth installment and as it turns out, it's just as brutalizing as any other album that they've released. Just a lot more aggression has been thrown on along with heavier guitar structure in the solo context and lyrical contents that evens it all out.
"Rise To Fall And Fall To Rise", "Impaled Upon The Tongue Of Sathan', and "Possessed Burning Eyes", are all very structured pieces because of the guitars, drums, and vocal chords working together helps etsblish a well rounded piece. Like the solo crushing work done on "Rise To Fall And Fall To Rise", it's well thought out and decrypts a similar styling to that of Behemoth's. Whereas "Impaled Upon The Tongue Of Sathan", tends to capture a solid mixture of Dimmu Borgir meets Skeletonwitch as far as the drumming tactics go, vocals are high pitched yet eerily creepy that keeps the music at bay.
Now “Possessed Burning Eyes”, brings the music to a mellow yet steady pace because the instruments are toned down which makes the music more easy going than its previous counter parts. As bassist Serpenth states, ""[The new material is] Belphegor to the bone — nine monumental, epic arrangements. The sound collages have a haunting, ritualistic atmosphere. Werk IX will be the longest playing Belphegor album yet."
Having said that, there is no telling as to what this album entails except for a full blown ride straight out of hell.
