Hustle Roses is an up and coming rock act that has built a solid ground as it were and will continue to establish their style source as their music continues to expand and develop. The band caught up with me to discuss their way of writing, touring, and just who they are all about.
1. What type of band are you?
HR: One girl pop killer.
2. Tell us the brief history of your band.
HR: I used to be in a band called the oohlas. During an off time i wrote lots of songs that didn't work for the oohlas. It became just me, and i named it hustle roses.
3. Where does a name like Hustle Roses come from and what is the meaning behind it?
HR: Hustle Roses comes from the last line in the poem by Charles Bukowski entitled "consummation of grief." everyone has their own interpretations of poetry - for me, personally, the last line means to fight for the beautiful and good things in your life until the end.
4. What's new in the recording of your music?
HR: "Alive" from my EP "tequila mockingbird" is appearing in gossip girl April 9. I’m working on getting my next EP out. Hopefully in the summer I’m collaborating with Jesse Owen Austin at the moment.
5. Who are your musical influences?
HR: Too many to list but at the moment: Grimes, Little Richard, the Spirit of Odd Future….listening to A LOT of 1920's-40's folk and neck deep in late 80's - 90's hip hop right now. I’m back on Madonna again for the 4 millionth time haha!
6. Who writes the songs, what are they about?
HR: I write the songs. Most of them are about me staying positive and fighting uphill constantly and love songs.
7. How would you describe your show, visual and musically?
HR: I’m not playing shows YET but i plan to sometime in 2012. I’m developing these ideas now.
8. What image do you think your music conveys?
HR: I don't know but I hope my music makes you feel happy and sexy.
