Witchbreed Discusses Nothing but a Heretic Rapture!
Witchbreed a metal act like no other comes from Portugal, Europe. The band discusses their recent release "Heretic Rapture" what the fans can expect to hear from it and where abouts the band will be performing.
1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Witchbreed and how long has the band been together?
My name's Ares and I'm the bass player for Witchbreed, as a full band we got together in 2006 but me and Dikk (guitar) have been working in Witchbreed's music since 2004.
2. Where's the band from and what's the music scene like there, any bands you'd recommend?
We're from Portugal, Europe. There's many bands here of course, being Moonspell the most known one. Recently our scene has been growing a lot of interesting bands and some of them have been breaking out in the international scene. Bands like The Firstborn, Divine Lust, The Spektrum, Switchtense, Process of Guilt, Thee Orakle and My Enchantment are among the most creative and strong bands in Portugal’s underground scene. Besides fantastic new bands and great comeback bands we also have the honourable bands like Heavenwood, Corpus Christii, Decayed and Filii Nigrantium Infernalium for example. We have loads of black metal bands, traditional heavy metal and power metal as well and also grind, hardcore and death metal combos so I guess we have a rich and varied scene, but we're still far away from the Norwegian and Finish dream scene.
3. Is there any story or concept behind the title “Heretic Rapture”?
Not really a story but more like an antagonistic concept about organized religion and anthropologic behaviour. Rapture being a state of religious ecstasy and Heretic the defiance of religious taboos it made a good concept title for all the issues we are addressing in the lyrics.
4. With so many metal bands out there, what do you think makes Witchbreed stand out from the crowd?
I do believe we have something worth to add to the whole scene, what it is I can't pin point exactly, maybe its exotic scent we bath our songs with. We believe in the music we write and we love what we do, that's what counts most in the end.
5. What do you want your fans to say after listening to “Heretic Rapture”?
As long as people like as we much as we do we will always feel appreciated, the making of "Heretic Raptvre" was not an easy process but I can't expect listeners to guess that through the songs. Some will do, eventually, others will not but any sign of respect and consideration for Witchbreed is a reward for us.
6. What bands have you had the opportunity to share the stage with?
Samael, Obituary, Firewind and most of the local bands. We hope to be able to share the stage with many other bands and hopefully the day will come for us to share the stage with some of the bands we admire and worship.
7. Do you remember doing an interview with Global Domination? What did you think of their interviewing methods?
No I don't, I guess that was Ruby. I'm a fan of The Project Hate since their debut "Cybersonic Superchrist" and I like Lord K Philipson's style, the real threat lies in the answers not in the questions, how someone reacts and answers to some of his most provocative tirades is what catches my attention, and how I measure how smart one can be.
8. What can one expect from a live Witchbreed show?
It's like a heavy veil of dark and dramatic music act, we step on stage and we become the tellers of the tragedies hiding in each song.
9. Will the Witchbreed be playing in the U.S. anytime soon?
We hope so, but maybe we will have to wait for our next record, we all would love to play the states because we do get a lot of feedback from all over the country, and gets us eager to bring Witchbreed to American soil.
10. What would you like a listener to remember the mot after hearing “Heretic Rapture” all the way through for the first time?
That we are Portuguese.
11. Have any plans for the remainder of this year, and what should we expect from you come next year?
We will play our last winter festival next 12 December and we're getting ready for the filming of our debut video, also we're working on getting ourselves a suitable management so it can push us forward while we concentrate on the music.
12. Any final words of wisdom?
Thanks for your support and interest in Witchbreed, be sure to check out our debut "Heretic Raptvre" . "Fall from Grace, Rise to Tirumph"!
