AxeWound the next supergroup in the metal scene but with
double the violence and graphic nature to their name these musicians features
Cancer Bats vocalist Liam Cormier and Bullet for My Valentine singer-guitarist
Matt Tuck, along with drummer Jason Bowld of Pitchshifter, ex-Rise to Remain
bassist Joe Coput and Glamour of the Kill guitarist Mike Kingswood.
This 10-track release is thrashy built with sharp heavy
riffs with the vocals being screamy when needed and clean when not. The overall
sound is raw yet aggressive like take tracks like "Post Apocalyptic
Party" it's filled with riffs hardcore drumming fury with thrashy
intensity that's loud and powerful. Whereas "Victim of the System",
contains those sing-talk vocals that tend to be highly popular within the
hardcore scene making it more enjoyable when a mosh pit forms. "Cold",
on the other hand is more melodic than aggressive having the music remain
fierce but soothing while "Burn Alive", and "Exorchrist"
are more examples of the melodic sound.
All in all "Vultures" is the work of seasoned
musicians who are adept at their instruments and their roles. Not relying too
much on their past (or most prolific) works, nor do they attempt to be
something they are not. It's a album that's fresh after every listen.
