UK metalheads Her Dying Regret has got a metalcore/post
hardcore vibe going on and these guys have got a lot to say in regards to their
debut EP "The Siren"! They discuss their musical inspirations, touring
plans, and what their all new EP is truly about! Expect the unexpected after
listening to Her Dying Regret!
1. What type of band are you?
Band: We are from
the U.K. and play metalcore/post hardcore.
2. Tell us the brief history of your band.
Band: Our band was founded on March 1st 2012 after drummer,
Tom Cox and guitarist Craig Mayor
met vocalist Scott London in a local nightclub, Scott then
begged us to form a band and we eventually decided to give him a chance, we
later found bassist/clean vocalist Matthew Malone and rhythm guitarist Nick
Shaw on a social networking site. On July 11th we released our debut song
titled "The Siren" and on the 26th October we are set to release our
debut EP that is also titled "The Siren" We played our first live gig
on 21st September 2012 and received amazing support from the crowd, we even got
an unexpected encore.
3. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Band: After Matt
joined it took us some time to come up with a band name, we wanted something
that suits our genre of music and something that people could relate to and
after hours of brainstorming "Her Dying Regret" was the name we all
agreed on.
4. Who are your musical influences?
Band: We are heavily influenced by bands such as Of Mice
& Men, Parkway drive and Woe is Me however we are all open to different
genres such as dubstep and technical death metal when we write songs we just
write what sounds good to us and try not to get stuck in the mindset of
sticking to a certain sound.
5. What are your dreams and goals?
Band: Our dream as a band would be to make a living touring
the world and playing our music to thousands of people, all of us are extremely
passionate about music and expressing our creativity and there isn't a single
day that goes by where we're not thinking about it. Our goals for the next year
would be to release an album before May 2013, release a music video and play
some larger venues with some well known bands.
6. Who writes the songs, what are they about?
Band: Craig and Matt write most of the songs; our songs on
the EP are about, partying, feeling lost Redemption, cowards and backstabbers.
7. What was the inspiration for the EP name The Siren?
Band: We chose to title our EP "The Siren" because
it goes for both meaning and purpose, it was chosen to be like a sounding
siren, and make people aware of our music, as for the meaning of the legendary
siren being able to lure people in with our music
8. Who did the artwork for the EP and what does it mean for
the release?
Band: Emily Doessing,
A friend of the band did all the artwork for us free of charge, it was a great
help and we're all really happy with the outcome; She has since offered to
design merch for us that should be available to buy for 2013.
9. What's your favorite song off it?
Band: It's hard to pick a favorite song as they are
all good in their own way however the song we are most proud of is the final
song "Columbus" as we wrote it during a 2 hour band practice from
scratch and has the most meaning behind it, We hope to release a music video
for "Columbus" by the end of the year.
10. What are the upcoming plans you have for the remainder
of this year?
Band: Since our EP is out we're going to be hard
at work raising awareness for our music, shooting a music video for Columbus,
writing new songs for the album in 2013 and smashing out as many gigs as we
possibly can.
11. How do you promote your band and shows?
Band: Currently we promote our band purely via Facebook,
friends and other social media websites, however we are looking to expand on
how we promote ourselves.
12. Can you describe your show, visual and musically for us?
Band: Visually you can expect to see lots of energy on
stage, Scott and Matt are always great at getting the crowd involved and
musically you can expect to hear a well practiced passionate band with plenty
of versatility in their music, we have everything from Crushing breakdowns and
fast techy riffs to catchy clean choruses.
13. What advice would you give to fellow bands?
Band: Our advice to fellow bands or any individual that
wants to get on stage would be to make it happen yourself, play to your
strengths and never give up despite what others may tell you, to have people
appreciate your music and sing your songs at a gig is the best feeling ever and
the only people that can make it happen is yourselves, it also helps if you're
friends rather than just band mates.
14. How does music affect you and the world around you?
Band: Since the bands started our music has affected our
lives by changing out whole outlook on what we want out of life, none of us are
currently chasing a typical 9-5 career, Tom even quit college so he could earn
extra money to put into the band, music effects us as individuals by giving us
a means of expressing ourselves and putting across our experiences in the
format of a song, without that we would be nothing.
15. Anything else you want to say or add?
Band: Thank you for taking the time in asking us about our
music, Our debut EP is out and is available for
purchase on iTunes, Spotify and Amazon follow us on Facebook and keep an eye
out for our album release in 2013, peace.
