A Candle Lit City's Light of Day!

Texan metalhead junkies A Candle Lit City got their start in 2008 since then the band immediately began making a name for itself locally by playing many gigs with several signed bands on their passing tours. This earned A Candle Lit City the reputation that they are known for today: a heavy sounding band with songs that are different from beginning to end and lyrics that really hit close to home. After releasing several singles along the way, the band finally delivered the impression they have always wanted to make by producing the EP "A Light In The Dark" in summer of 2011; a 7-track EP that defined the direction that the band was going for musically and earned the band all of it's die-hard fans. Now that another year is upon them there is no turning back but just looking forward for these guys for the rest of their musical careers. The entire band got together to discuss their past, present, and future activities!

1. Why the name A Candle Lit City? Can you give me a summary as to how the band formed?

Back in high school we basically just shot each other a couple of text messages until we came up with a name hahaha. The band formed back in 2008 during our sophomore year. However due to member losses we had to stop playing shows and the band went on hiatus. Ty and Wade we're the only original members that are still in the band. With the addition of Alex, Jacob, Frankie and Austin ACLC began a more serious routine and got back to playing shows and released a new EP made by its new members.

2. What type of band are you and why are you here?

We are an alternative metal band. We strive for a musical sound that fits our own and is different from beginning to end with intense lyrics. We're here to earn our mark in the music industry, to make a name for Houston and to overall have fun and just play good music.

3. Who are your musical influences?

Underoath.

4. A Light In The Dark is the title of your EP would you say that its a concept release?

Yeah we feel its a definite release haha. That EP contains the full power of A Candle Lit City and we are very proud of it. We feel like ACLC hadn't emerged musically until that EP was written. All our own private musical elements were all blended into that ,USC. And with that, we achieved a unique sound that we fell in love with and we want to keep producing.

5. Who writes the songs, what are they about?

Wade writes the very rough skeleton of the song on rhythm guitar and then lyrics and placements are made by Ty. All other concepts/parts/background/drums sounds are added in by the rest of the members.

6. Can you tell me about the song Hourglass?

Hourglass is what A Candle Lit City being dirty when it comes to our music. It's heavy, in your face and has an intense meaning behind it about everyone's perception of time. It was recorded in late summer of 2012 in Nashville, Tennessee at the legendary 456 Studios (Before There Was Rosalyn, Erra) with producer Brian Hood (Original drummer of MyChildren MyBride). The lyrics that stand out the most in the song are "Don't give into the fire that feeds on negativity" screamed by Ty. When time eats away at you it is due to the stress and negativity you feel. That line alone tells you not to let the fires get the best of you.

7. How do you describe your music to people?

We all same the same thing when talking to others. We're different and we have a unique sound. When they ask what you mean different we usually say along the lines of underneath. Fans agree for the most part and we believe our unique sound is what gains the fans we have today.

8. What inspires you to do what you do?

Our passion for music. We believe in our music and our passion for music is what has driven us to achieve all goals we have today and what will continues to drive us in our future endeavors.

9. What advice would you give to people who want to do what you do?

Don't give up. No matter how hard it is. If you truly love music and want it bad enough, all hard work will eventually play off. One last thing, don't let the current music industry discourage you. People still appreciate good music and if you stick to your roots people will appreciate you too.

10. You guys are currently unsigned do you hope to get signed someday or do you prefer the DIY route?

Currently on the DIY route but we are currently in the loops with one particular label who we hope to be announcing some news about very soon. It's confidential as of now so be sure to stick around if you want to hear more!

11. Tell me about your video for the song "Victim" what is the concept about, where was it shot, what was the experience like overall?

It was basically about overcoming the devil. A story about a victim who found himself saved after finding the faith. Before when the victim was unsure they were blindfolded and being pulled in different directions against their will. It was shot by Albert Gonzalez on his property and in his studio. It was fun except when redoing parts we had to hear the song over and over.

12. Do you have any new music in the works?

Currently have 2 singles we will have released before the end of spring.

13. If you weren't involved in A Candle Lit City what would you be doing?

Probably all in college doing our own thing without having ACLC in our life. The thought alone sucks so we'd had to actually live it.

14. What does the band have in-store for 2013?

Music. Lots and lots of music. Hopefully a big tour and a lot of new merchandise.

15. Anything else you'd like to say or add?

To all our current and old fans we love you and wouldn't be able to do this without you. To all our new fans we hope you decide to stick around and see all the new material we have in the works and we hope you bring your friends along for the ride. And last but not least to ALL of our fans thank you for taking the time to read all of this. If you're ever nearby come chill with us or hangout with us after the show. We're just like you and we'd love to meet every single one of you.
