Reverse This Curse has been hard at work writing and recording material for their upcoming debut release "The Dark Tales Of Sorrow". But have gone on to release a current single called "Another Victim", so guitarist and vocalist Lars discusses the new material and what these guys have lined up next.
1. What type of band are you?
Lars: We are a rock/post-hardcore band
from Oslo, Norway.
Lars: The band was created on Halloween
2011 by me. I always wanted to create a band where I could be myself, write
about the things that came from the heart.
3. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Lars: The name really describes what I
and the band has gone through in our lives.
4. Who are your musical influences?
Lars: I listen to a lot of different
music, but some of my influences are; Slipknot, Stone Sour, I Am Ghost,
Ludovico Einaudi, and Steve Jablonsky.
5. Tell me where the title "The Dark
Tales Of Sorrow" came from and what does it symbolize for the release?
Lars: It basically symbolize that when
you're going through a hard time in your life there is always a way out, but in
the end it's all up to you if you choose to let the sorrow win or lose.
6. What are your songs about? What
specific themes do they cover?
Lars: The songs are mostly about what I
went through in my life, bad things and good things.
7. Do you write your own songs? Can you
discuss the songwriting process in detail.
Lars: I'm the one who writes and creates
all the music in this band. It can start with a little hymn, then I pick up my
acoustic guitar and try to create that hymn that pops up in my head. I always
create my songs on an acoustic guitar, if a riff I create sounds awesome on an
acoustic guitar, just imagine how it will sound with the whole band.
8. Why did you pick "Another Victim (Feat.
Steven Juliano)" as the first single and how did Steven Juilano get
involved?
Lars: Steven has always been one of my
favorite artists. I Am Ghost is still one of my favorite bands and probably one
of the best bands out there. So when I created "Another Victim" I just knew I had to get Steven to sing on it
because the sound of the song has that I Am Ghost feeling. I contacted him on
Facebook and sent him an instrumental version of it and asked him if he wanted
to sing on it. He told me that the song was really cool and voila. And not to
mention Bobby Burns who did an incredible job playing synth/violins on the
song.
9. Steven Juilano also designed the album
artwork but what does the artwork represent?
Lars: The art basically describe how bad
sorrow can make a person feel inside.
10. What label will be releasing this
release?
Lars: For now the album will be free for
everyone, my music will always be free, but it will also be released on iTunes
if someone wants' to buy our music to support us..
11. How would you describe the overall
sound of the new release?
Lars: Good question, I actually have no
idea, cause each song is so different from each other, but a mix of
rock/post-hardcore.
12. Did the band have any definitive
goals they were shooting for before the recording process began for this
release?
Lars: Not really, I always wanted to have
my music released on iTunes, that was basically my goal since I started this
band.
13. Are you using any new instrumentation
you've never used in the recording process before?
Lars: Nothing spectacular, I actually
used drum loops on a couple of songs.
14. When did you start writing for this
release?
Lars: Wow, the writing process already
started in 2006, but all of the songs I wrote then was thrown away for TDTOS
except "The Last Goodbye" which is about my father who passed away in
2000. I think I actually started writing bits and pieces in 2008 before
finishing the last songs early 2012.
15. Can you go into one or two tracks on
the new release? If so, can you give us the track title and brief description
of how the track sounds and how it came about?
Lars: "Charlotte" is a song I
wrote about my fiancée, the reason I wrote this was because before I met her I
felt I was in a dark hole I couldn't get out of. She changed my life and this
song is dedicated to her.. I also was really lucky to have Ty Oliver former
"Requiem For The Dead" now "Fiction Killer" to add some
solo parts. He's an amazing skilled guitar player and his work made the song so
much cooler. A basic rock song.
16. Will you be touring this album? Is
there a chance you will be doing a short tour before its release?
Lars: Right now there will be no touring,
maybe a couple of shows here and there, I really want to finish this album and
look back at what I have created and be proud, then maybe next year we'll try
to promote the album as much as possible.
17. So the remaining plans you have for
the rest of this year are what?
Lars: Finishing up the album.
18. Anything else you want to say or add?
Lars: You rock and thanks for doing this
interview. Please support our band and give us a like.
