Sins Of A Bullet Let's the Devil Embrace Them

Washington's death metallers Sins Of A Bullet have released their EP entitled "A Devil To Embrace" with this they have gone on to play showcases, write more material, and who knows what else. The band caught up to discuss this release and whatever else they have in-store.

1. First off, How did Sins Of A Bullet form?

Sins Of A Bullet started out with Alex and Kelby jammin on guitar, eventually they had a full line-up and this was a Rock band. Later on Alex and Kelby wanted to play heavier music, the singer at that time wouldn't do scream vocals so Brett took his place in 2009, and we switched to Death Metal. We had originally recruited Brandon for bass at the time Brett joined but he had commitments to another band. Brett was the original vocalist for Brandon's band which also included Nik on guitar. Since Brandon wouldn't take the spot, we got Nik to fill it. For our first album, "Eternal Silence" it was the line up of just Alex, Kelby, Nik, and Brett. About a year after recording "Eternal Silence"; we were able to convince Brandon to join the band in time to record our EP, "A Devil To Embrace", moving Nik to guitar with Kelby.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Kelby always wanted the bands name to start with, "Sins Of". People can make their own meaning.

3. Where are you guys from originally?

We have always been playing out of Marysville, Washington

4. What bands have you guys been influenced by?

Lamb Of God, Whitechapel, Cannibal Corpse, Suicide Silence, Behemoth, Wretched, etc. That is just a fraction of our influences, they are constantly changing.

5. What accomplishments are you most proud of as a band?

Recording our first full length album, "Eternal Silence" was a huge moment for us. Then recording our EP "A Devil To Embrace" has probably been our best moment yet. It really is a good representation of how we have all grown as musicians and a band.

6. Describe your relationship with your fans in one word?

Connected.

7. How has being in a band impacted your life?

Brett: It has taken over everything I do, it is a break from stress. It's given me something to be proud of.

Alex: How hasn't it?

Brandon: It's helped shape my life into what it is now. Who my friends are, where I live, what I do.

Kelby: The band is a part of me, it's like watching you evolve as a musician. It's my most prized possession.

Nik: It's my life, I couldn't imagine what I would be doing without it.

8. Do you have any major goals for your band?

Be able to tour relentlessly and take enough time off from that to record more music, then go right back out to touring. Connect with a big fan base and always grow into playing larger and larger shows/ festivals.

9. How do you describe your sound to people who ask you what your band sounds like?

Death Metal.

10. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Our songs have an expanding variety of themes. Ranging from, various apocalyptic outcomes, environmental concerns, murder, some of Brett's various feelings and beliefs towards religion and spirituality, sticking up for yourself, zombies, politics, aliens, and some brutal torture.

11. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

Yes. Usually Nik, Kelby, Alex or Brandon will have some guitar ideas written then they all chip in and help evolve the song and add to it. Alex then writes drums to it, sometimes with Nik's input. Brandon slaps the bass lines into it. Brett usually has lyrics pre-written and fits them into songs.

12. What inspired the EP title? Is it a concept release?

Our inspiration for this EP was that we all dedicated a lot of time to improving our skills after recording our first release, "Eternal Silence" and we wanted to push that out because it is a better representation of who we are as a band. It is a concept release. Songs 1-4, Stay Alive, A Devil To Embrace, The Death of Saint Peter, and Sublunary Eradication are all various end of world situations (each have other underlying messages) and the last song, Repulsive is what the world could be like after one of those four situations happened.

13. Can you go into one or two tracks on the new EP? If so, can you give us the track title and brief description of how the track sounds and how it came about?

Kelby: Repulsive, it just sounds like duna dunna! Dunnna! Blanna and I like that.

14. What are your expectations for this EP?

We just want people to hear it and relate to it.

15. What do you guys have planned for 2013?

This March we are going and recording 2 new songs. In the next few weeks will get back to work on our music video for "Repulsive". In April we get to open for Wretched, The Browning, Blackguard, Jeff Loomis and Soilwork. A music video for our upcoming song "Final Eclipse". A lyric video for our upcoming song, "Executioner Elected". Also a lot of shows that keep getting bigger and more fun.

16. Is that your final answer?

For now.
