Death Of An Era's Daniel Simpson the Musical Shape Shifter

Five piece metal group, Death of an Era, is bringing a refined sound to the death metal world by delivering a blend of unique technical guitar work with a pile driving hardcore barrage. This Columbus, Ohio based band is quickly becoming a staple amongst the favorite groups of heavy music followers. Frontman vocalist Daniel Simpson discusses their all new EP "The Great Commonwealth" and how it differs and defines them as a band and whole.

1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Death of an Era, and how long the band has been together.

Daniel: My name's Daniel Simpson I am the vocalist for a band called Death Of An Era and the band has been together since 2009.

2. So what's it like to be a part of the Artery Recording's family?

Daniel: So far so good, awesome managers, everyone is working hard so everyone is pulling in their own weight.

3. You will be releasing your EP The Great Commonwealth via The Artery Foundation/Razor and Tie how does this make you feel?

Daniel: We're pretty stoked put a lot of time and effort into it so we're happy to share it with the rest of the world.

4. How does this EP differ and compare to your previous EP Reviler?

Daniel: Most of our other stuff was immature. This one has a lot more matured writing and lyrics and a lot more solid ground.

5. How would you say that the sound has evolved between the two?

Daniel: Definitely incorporated a lot of electronic programming and clean vocals.
6. Is there any story or concept behind The Great Commonwealth title?

Daniel: We wanted to come up with something that all gears towards us as young adults, we like calling out a lot of problems the kids are dealing with so that's where the title comes from. I feel like we have a lot of personal address because we're better than other Americans in our own ways.

7. Who produced The Great Commonwealth and what was it like working with them?

Daniel: It was great we've been friends with the producer for several years so everything just fell into place when we worked with them.

8. Who did the cover art for The Great Commonwealth and how much input did you have on it?
Daniel: Mike Melferd did the artwork for it, he's also one of our mangers so we talked about it sending designs back and forth about what we wanted then went with a design we liked.
9. Did the band have any definitive goals they were shooting for before the recording process began for this EP
Daniel: We definitely wanted lyrically to make a difference,  a lot of bands just do music for the sake of music and no one cares about what they're putting out so I wanted to put meaning behind the words.
10. Are you using any new instrumentation you've never used in the recording process before?

Daniel: As far as programming everything is still except 7-string guitars everything else just sounds better.

11. How do you manage to do your vocals especially screaming without cutting off your vocals?

Daniel: After all the years I've just gotten use to it so even after a show I don't even get a scratchy throat.
12. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?

Daniel: We've all been obsessed with music since we were young so putting it into words would be insane so every single band has shaped us into who we are so we have so many bands to be thankful for from every genre.

13. How did you guys come up with your band name?

Daniel: That would be when we first started and took our music seriously so we all took it seriously so we knew we wanted to do music for the rest of our lives so everything had changed and nothing else mattered from there because it was a death of an era.
14. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?

Daniel: A lot of shows, maybe some tours, and new material.

15. Anything else you'd like to say to the fans out there?
Daniel: Just to see you soon and hope that our music can really speak to you with everything we do.
