Swedish black metallers Perverticon has made their music available in promo form with the release of a few songs but these guys have got so much more to offer and drummer and vocalist Omnicremationist Supreme discusses these matters and more!
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Omnicremationist Supreme: We started the band late 2011. Basically all we´ve been doing since then is writing and recording material for what will become our debut album. The members of Perverticon are Uncleanest Invictus – guitar, Omnicremationist Supreme – drums, vocals, Necrosadistic Elite – guitar, bass. Supreme and Elite have previously been in other bands and projects over the years while this is our first collaboration with Invictus.
2. How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Omnicremationist Supreme: I guess we sound a bit like the Scandinavian black metal bands of the 90´s and those bands have definitely been an inspiration musically as well as visually. We do also allow ourselves to be influenced by the more contemporary music the genre has to offer. To namedrop a few influential bands I´d say Gorgoroth, Ljå, Funeral Mist, Dawn, Craft. We try to maintain an atmosphere to the music while also keeping it in your face and punishing, grabbing bits and pieces of what we like in black metal.
3. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?
Omnicremationist Supreme: Common themes are anti-religion, sex, murder, extinction, filth and so on. The lyrics are the channeling of our most disturbing thoughts into words. I don´t know if there´s a clear message intended with the lyrics, I think of it more as a pure source of decadence available to anyone who wants to indulge.
4. Who writes the songs?
Omnicremationist Supreme: Elite writes the riffs and the basic structures of the songs, then we rehearse them together and arrange them into finished songs.
5. Tell me about this promo you released.
Omnicremationist Supreme: The promo is a taste of what´s to come. We wrote and recorded ten tracks last year and a few of them are on that promo. Eight of the tracks we recorded will be released as an album, firstly on LP in late July and then on CD in September by British Mordgrimm records.
6. What are your plans for new music?
We´ve begun discussing a follow up to the debut, but no new songs have been written yet and I wouldn´t expect it to be ready for some time.
7. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Omnicremationist Supreme: None in particular. The name fits the musical style and lyrical themes we have.
8. How did you come together?
Omnicremationist Supreme: We all knew each other before starting the band and Me and Elite had been playing in other bands together before. Black metal was a genre that we hadn´t explored so we decided to have a go at it. As it turned out Invictus knew how to play the guitar so we asked him to join.
9. What inspires you to do what you do?
Omnicremationist Supreme: Personally it´s not as much an inspiration as a need to get some stuff out of your system. Playing music is rarely enjoyable and most of the time it´s tedious work recording and producing it. Yet it´s something I have to do or I will get frustrated by not being creative. The rehearsing and songwriting is the most rewarding part of the process I think. I can´t really answer for the others though.
10. What advice would you give to fellow bands?
Omnicremationist Supreme: Play what you like and not what you think people want to hear. Honesty is a great quality in music.
11. How does music affect you and the world around you?
Omnicremationist Supreme: In the process of writing lyrics or songs it´s kind of symbiotic for me. The music I listen to becomes the soundtrack to the world around me and affects the way I see the world. At the same time the world around me translates into the music I make.
12. What are your dreams and goals?
Omnicremationist Supreme: I honestly have no idea at this point.
13. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?
Omnicremationist Supreme: As mentioned before, an album late his summer. After that, probably another album. Beyond that I don´t really know. It depends on the kind of reception our music gets and if anyone´s interested.
