Four Nights Gone's Damian LaRocco Hopes that this Year will be the One!

Formed in Staten Island, New York in the summer of 2010, Four Nights Gone set out to start a name for themselves. After writing tirelessly they released their debut EP Crash and Burn then sometime later they toured for a bit before returning to the studio to write, record, and release their sophomore release Resilience. Frontman vocalist Damian LaRocco discusses the Resilience and more!

1. What type of band are you?

Damian: We're the type of band that loves to play in front of people! Genre wise we get classified as a lot of different things but I'd describe it as rock with post-hardcore influences, and we always try to branch out and sound like ourselves.

2. Tell us the brief history of your band.

Damian: Myself (Damian) and Steven our current drummer Steven are technically the only original members, who started playing together in a previous band. We started Four Nights Gone in 2010. then Imran joined and brought Alex in since they'd known each other for a while. In 2012 we released our debut EP Crash and Burn and now we're ready to release our follow up, Resilience.

3. Where are you from?

Damian: We all live in Staten Island, NY but Alex and myself were born in Brooklyn.

4. What's the music scene like and would you have any bands to recommend?

Damian: Some of the bands we've connected with over the years would have to be She Said Fire, Chasing Thrill, In Your Memory, Ghosts of Eden, One To The Head. There's just so many bands to even list here but we try to support everyone as much as possible because we're all in the same boat and there's so much talent out there. Some bands look at it as a competition when in reality we all need each other's backs and it pushes you to want to do better as a band.

5. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Damian: Well Four Nights Gone has a double meaning to me. A few years back I was going through a rough patch in life where I hit rock bottom and was struck with severe depression and insomnia that prevented me from sleeping for about four nights. It was a real rough time in my life and it changed who I was and who I am today But "Four Nights Gone" also stands for time you've lost and moving on from said time as a better person and learning from the past whether mistakes or experiences.

6. Who are your musical influences?

Damian: We have a lot of different influences that come together into our sound. Some of the main influences would have to be Thrice, Chevelle, Deftones, Breaking Benjamin,  and The Receiving End Of Sirens

7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

Damian: Yes, we write all of our own songs. It usually starts off with Imran having a guitar riff or some rough guitar ideas and then we work with it as a full band and build on it from there. The last thing we work on it vocals So i have something to base vocals patterns and lyrics on

8. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Damian: Each song I write lyrically comes from something some what personal and/or an event that i feel strong about. Songs from our first ep entitled "Crash and Burn" revolved around the theme of not being brought down in life no matter how dark things looked down the road. To quote our song My Last Call "Dont regret the past, just live on"

9. Tell me about the EP Resilience.

Damian: Resilience, is a story about events that happened in my life the past year or so, whether about me or people around me and how it may have been a tough year in terms of a lot of issues came up in my life I came back stronger. We decided to broaden our horizons with our sound and try things we havent't worked with before. Working with our new producer Mike Watts, elements were added that allowed for a different side of Four Nights Gone to be shown.

10. Is there any story or concept behind the Resilience title?

Damian: Yes, resilience is a noun that's defined as  having the ability to recover from something whether an illness or adversity. And the flower growing out of the persons arm on our cover art shows just that, picking up the pieces and as I said coming back stronger, which is a reoccurring theme in Four Nights Gone.

11. Who produced Resilience and what was it like working with them?

Damian: Mike Watts at Vudu Studios produced it. It was a really amazing experience, Mike really helped us polish the songs up and the engineer Tom was really cool and hands on and they got what we were going for and just made it even better. We were really happy to work with him and see what a real producer brings to the table and he really brought our songs to the next level.

12. Who did the cover art for Resilience and how much input did you have on it?

Damian: Joel Robinson, a Canadian painted it/ We loved the concept of the artwork and how it can be interpreted in different ways, and how it is eerie yet beautiful at the same time. He does really great artwork, we want to thank him for letting use his work for cover.

13. What do you hope for in 2013?

Damian: We hope that Resilience really takes off and gets in the hands of even more people. We've got more touring planned for 2013 and we hope to see a ton of new faces and that we can really impress them with our live set and hopefully open up for a few more big name bands and play some festivals.
