The Antikythera Mechanism Makes Mark Upon the Meta Scene

Progressive death metallers, The Antikythera Mechanism is quickly becoming the next front line leader of the underground Metal scene. With their new full length album "The Inevitable Collapse of Earthly Consummation" they are rapidly growing a dedicated and ever expanding fan base not only in their home town of Atlanta but all over the United States. Every member comes from a deep rooted musical back ground with years of experience throughout the music industry. They have shared the stage with many world renowned artists such as Slipknot, Slayer, Whitechapel, The Black Dahlia Murder, Soulfly, Incite, Rings of Saturn, and Wretched to name a few and as a band they are constantly searching for new ways to expand their audience and progress their music into the future. The Antikythera Mechanism will surely make their mark on the Heavy Metal scene and the world. The band discusses their work on their follow-up EP release and a backstory on the band themselves.

1. What type of band are you?

We are Progressive Death Metal.

2. Tell us the brief history of your band.

We started in about 2009 and have just been grinding it out ever since. We have a had a good bit of member changes over the years but the lineup we have now we think is the strongest we've ever been. We have had some great opportunities to share the stage with so many amazing national touring bands in our time with this bands as well. We are all just trying to take this project as far as it can go and we're writing music we love and having fun doing it.

3. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

This last album, the inevitable collapse of earthly consummation, really focuses on a theme of global failure. More or less a view of establishments and philosophies that we see as no longer relevant to a better tomorrow, ideas on the needed change to rid the world of these establishments, and how people that follow movements like those discussed are view by the complacent society.

4. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

Yes all of our material is original and written/recorded by all members of the band. Our writing process is, chaotic, to put it in a word lol. We have 6 members with a lot of different musical influences. A lot of times out is frustrating and tedious but at the end of the day we always end up with songs we love and the fans have seemed to enjoy them thus far! Again I almost like that our writing process is a little crazy because I think it helps us keep in touch with our heavy roots while still writing progressive music.

5. Who are your musical influences?

There are too many to count. Some awesome national touring bands we've been lucky enough to share the stage with though are bands like Slipknot, Slayer, Upon a burning body, Whitechapel, the Black Dahlia Murder, the Browning, Wretched, dark sermon, abiotic, rings of Saturn, and many more.

6. Where did the band get it's name and does it have a meaning behind it?

Our vocalist introduced the name to the band. The Antikythera Mechanism is an "ancient computer" found on a ship wreck off an island in Greece that is believed to have been an astronomical calender that could forecast the night sky for decades. What really makes it cool though is the technology in the mechanism pre-dates any technology similar to it in the world by 1000 years. Just a cool little wonder of the world and we wanted to try to adapt the idea of that "being ahead of the time" to motivate us to push limits in our music!

7. What can you tell me about your album, The Inevitable Collapse of Earthly Consummation.

It was a pain in the ass putting together haha. Seriously though, we think it is a soild album and is a good collection of a lot of different periods of history with this band. We really don't get too far up our own asses about stuff but the whole thing is free on our SoundCloud and we always hearing everyone else's opinions on it!

8. How is the process going for your new EP you've been working on.

Again our writing process can be crazy but over all things are going well! Going into the studio at the beginning of July and the EP should be out by August! We're excited to show everyone this new material and give them all a new perspective of this bands ability.

9. What do you have planned for this year?

Mainly just getting this EP out and then we will be doing a small tour in September. Dates, venues, and possible tour companions will be announced very soon!

10. Anything else you'd like to say or add?

Thank you so much to everyone who had already supported this project and gotten behind us! You make all of this worth doing! Hopefully we can keep making and meeting new fans every day!
