Combining the use of electronic, dance, and shock rock Gabriel Cyphre uses these to create his own style and plans on unleashing his debut full-length very soon! He himself discusses about how he creates music and his latest single and much more he has planned for his musical career!
1. What type of band are you?
Gabriel: I am Gabriel Cyphre, a one man band, i write, compose, record, and produce my own songs.
2. Can I get a brief summary as to how the band come to be and why the name, Gabriel Cyphre?
Gabriel: It was the December 25th 2008, and I decided to give me some kind of reason to live, so I created a "character" called "Gabriel Cyphre", it's not a puppet or a mask, it's just the representation of the two faces of the world, the good and the evil, I mean, G.C. could be the deepest part inside us.
3. Why did you want this band to be a one man project?
Gabriel: Well, in the beginning it was a full band with all the components, but, since I have a very mad and sick minded, I hate when someone tell me to change something I created, you know? When you're in a band, you have to respect all the ideas of the other members, and that's not a good thing for me, because I love to express my self in any single way, and no one can tell me "I don't like the lyrics, can you change 'em a little?" and so on.
4. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
Gabriel: The main theme for my songs are my madness, my insane perception of life, and all the emotions that I would be afraid to tell by talking; but, I think they are the same that every human being could feel in his/her own subconscious. You know, I could ask to someone "why people keep to have children when they know that there is no reason to keep alive the human race?" But I am sure everyone could tell me that I'm insane, and they have right, but all of us are insane, one way or another. This is just a stupid example, but I hope you know what I mean.
5. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)
Gabriel: Yes I write my own songs. It's very long the songwriting process. There are 3 points to write a song for me, the first, I need to know WHAT I wanna talk about, and once I decide it, I set my brain in a "writing mood", all the whole day I constantly think about the song I have to write, so when I have some good word or phrase in mind, I write it down on the notepad of my phone, once I've collect something like 50 words or phrases, I step on the third and last part for the writing process, which is to pur 'em all together and correct, delete, add rhymes, enlarge or shrink each phrase to make it sounds better. Once I finish the third part, I start to compose music for that lyric.
6. Who are your musical influences?
Gabriel: I have thousands musical influences, but lately I've been listening to "Castlevania Symphony of The Night" soundtrack, and lot of metal core bands.
7. You released a new song and single called "Children Of Madness" can you tell me about it?
Gabriel: Since I released my first album "Master Of Madness" in 13th January 2013, I decided to call all my fans as "Children of Madness", because they are the ones who love me, the ones who understand my thoughts, the new generations of human being that I "infected" with my insane thoughts and songs. So Children Of Madness is basically a song dedicated to my fans.
8. You also mentioned you're working on a new music video can you tell me about of the video's concept or theme and which song you chose?
Gabriel: Of course I am, I've been inspired so much from the story of Jesus Christ and the first character of Castlevania SOTN, both of them were the bringers of peace, and the ones who came to change the world and erase the evil things. So, since our world is turning a bad place, more and more everyday, because of the useless wars, and the global economic crisis, I just decided to create a fantastic story, which tells the ugly truth of our days, that changes in better because of a bringer of rainbow, who is a kind of a new Jesus Christ.
9. So what can you tell me about this new album?
Gabriel: My new album will be totally different from my other old works, it'll gonna be 65% metalcore, 35% gothic style, 5% dubstep. And maybe there will be some acoustic song, I can't tell too much because I just have few songs already done.
10. Why did you can to title it Rainbow On The Fallen Skylands?
Gabriel: I think, our world without problems, without the bad things, without money, and without wars, could be a kind of a paradise, just like "Pandora's world" of the "Avatar" movie, you know? that world was full of skylands, and the creatures of that planet were living in peace and loving each other; so I were imagining our world in a perfect estatic and meaning vision, just like "Pandora". So since the word "Skylands" means our world in a fantastic vision, I think that it's falling because of the bad thing that happening all around the world. But I want the listeners to remember that all the evil can triumph only if the good people do nothing, so the message I want to share with my album is to assemble every people, all the fans, every individual, to join each other as the colors that create a wonderful rainbow. That's why that title. "Rainbow on The Fallen Skylands", one day the rainbow will shine on this fallen skylands, in that day the peace will reigns supreme.
11. Is this album going to be a concept album?
Gabriel: Of course it will be.
12. Where are you in the recording process of the new album?
Gabriel: I'm actually in the old place of the world, Rome.
13. Who is producing the album? How has the producer aided the recording process?
Gabriel: There's just me and myself, the one who produce my album. I'm also a producer.
14. Where are you recording the album?
Gabriel: I have a personal studio in the middle of Rome, there is the place where i'm recording.
15. Did you have any definitive goals you were shooting for before the recording process began for this album?
Gabriel: I'm in the recording process for the new album, but in the meanwhile, I'm thinking about to record some new metalcore songs, there's nothing sure yet.
16. Are you using any new instrumentation you've never used in the recording process before?
Gabriel: Yes, I am using the sound of the harpsichords, the real guitar, that I've never used to record my old songs, and lots of orchestral sounds, and a wonderful choir.
17. When did you start writing for this album? How was the songwriting process different/similar to previous releases?
Gabriel: I've started to write my new album the day that "Master of Madness" has been released, since "Rainbow on The Fallen Skylands" is always been a dream to realize. The songwriting it's totally different from the previous releases, since I've been passed 3 months alone living in a room for the song writing for "Master of Madness" there were just me and my madness; Now I am me and myself, and I always find the other part of me when I'm in close contact to the nature, I feel like the earth, the grass, the sky, and the creatures of nature want me to write and write about the kind of a new "Jesus Christ" that I've been mentioned before with the name of "The Bringer of Rainbow". The new songwriting has nothing similar to my previous releases... I don't know, but I feel something new.
18. Did you feel any pressure whatsoever to do this release?
Gabriel: Not at all, ah.
19. Can you go into one or two tracks on the new album? If so, can you give us the track title and brief description of how the track sounds and how it came about?
Gabriel: I unfortunately can't tell anything about the tracks for the new album, because I'll be making something like thirty songs, and in the end I will chose 12 of them, the best ones, the other songs will be deleted and no one will know anything about 'em. But I'm sure, one of the songs will have a title with the word "Rainbow" in it, and it'll be coming out with the music video. I'm 90% sure!
20. How has the vibe been in the studio?
Gabriel: I am alone all the time while I'm in the studio to record and mix down the songs, so I'm totally free to experience new sounds, vocals, without being judged. If I must describe with one word the vibe when I'm in my studio it would be "Freedom".
21. When can we expect the new album to be released?
Gabriel: Well, I'm afraid to tell the releasing date, because when I will have the final product in my hands, it should be approved by an hundred companies, so the process will be long... But I think I will be done with it for the next October, and I think, I hope, the album will be available world wide for the beginning of the new year. But this was just my supposition.
22. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?
Gabriel: Be able to professionalize with music, video, and pictures, more madness released from my mind, more metalcore. Something they have never listened before, something no one told'em. A new form of insanity.
23. Is that your final answer?
Gabriel: I'm keeping other secrets, but I won't tell you for now, so thanks Natalie, it's been a pleasure to respond to your questions. And yes, it's my final answer.
