iwrestledabearonce has come a long way since their formation way back when. Now that they are three albums in with a new vocalist in place there is no stopping or telling just how much more or far out these guys plan to go. Guitarist Steven Bradley discusses their latest album "Late For Nothing" and upcoming touring plans for the rest of this year!
1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in iwrestledabearonce, and give me a brief summary as to how the band came together and how long they have been around?
Steven: I'm Steven and I play guitar. We have been around for 6 years, and the brief summary is that we met in the Men's room at a truck stop in Louisiana.
2. Tell me why and how did you get the name, iwrestledabearonce?
Steven: Gary Busey said it on a TV show he had for a while… and it seemed like a good idea for a band name.
3. What made you guys decide to form a band?
Steven: This isn't any of our first band… we've all been in bands since we were really young. It's just always been our passion.
4. Krysta Cameron left the band due to pregnancy then was replaced by Courtney LaPlante for good, why did Cameron decide not to return to iwrestledabearonce?
Steven: She never had any intention of returning. She sent us an email quitting the band before our set in Dallas, and we talked to Courtney and she flew out the very next day to join up. We didn't know if she would be permanent or not when we first called her, but it quickly became apparent that she is the best fit for our band that we could ever find.
5. How has Courtney LaPlante adjusted to the band and how have the fans taken to her role as opposed to Cameron?
Steven: She fit right in immediately. From day one, we discovered that we all have the same sense of humor and love the same silly shit, so there was never any weirdness like there undoubtedly should have been… it
was pretty amazing. Everybody was pissed at first, but I think now that people have heard the new album and seen Courtney live since actually practicing with our band (we never practiced prior to Warped and she learned our set in one day!) that we have seen a HUGE amount of support, even from people who had previously talked shit.
6. "Late For Nothing" is your third album to date as a band, how does this make you feel?
Steven: Old as hell.
7. Not only is this your third album but third release for Century Media Records, the relationship with them is going well no?
Steven: I love a lot of the people there, but I think it's pretty obvious we aren't a priority for them anymore and they're focusing more on other things. Our contract with them is now up though, so we shall see what
happens.
8. You guys will be heading out on The About A Life Tour what have you done to prepare yourselves for this tour?
Steven: We've been drinking quite a bit… We know the Attila guys and have toured with and partied with them before, so things should be pretty damn ridiculous.
9. What are you looking forward to about working with the other bands on this tour?
Steven: Drinking in parking lots across the US.
10. You guys have toured a lot over the years but where hasn't iwrestledabearonce set foot in?
Steven: We need to go to South America! Also there are some other countries we could play in Southeast Asia that I'd love to go to. Also South Africa… I mean I would honestly love to play everywhere on Earth, so this list could get pretty long...
11. What do you do to get ready for a show?
Steven: Depends on the show… but shots are fairly common. And listening to Slipknot.
12. You guys have toured with a lot of great bands, which would you say is your favorite?
Steven: Definitely a tough call… I miss watching Closure in Moscow every night. We toured Japan with them and they just blew our fucking minds every single night.
13. What is your favorite song to play live (from any release)?
Steven: Tough call… Were going to be playing some more new songs on this Attila tour, so the answer could change soon! But for now, I love playing Tastes Like Kevin Bacon, Danger in the Manger, and You Know That Ain't Them Dogs' Real Voices from the old releases and the two new song we've been playing live are REALLY fun… and it seems like more people are singing along to them than the past albums, so that's awesome.
14. What's the best and worst shows you've ever played?
Steven: Best show is a tough call… but probably Heavy MTL fest in Montreal or With Full Force festival in Germany. We did a tour with Otep a few years ago, and there are a lot of shows from that tour that would tie for worst shows! Also a skate park that we played with Stray From the Path and American Me like 5 years ago always comes to mind as being completely terrible… the power went out after a song, and it was just a shit show.
15. Do you remember the first show your band played?
Steven: Yep! Gainesville, TX and we had an iPod for a drummer because we couldn't find one at the time in Shreveport, LA.
16. Once the tour in the USA is over what do you have planned afterwards?
Steven: More tour! Keep in touch with us on Facebook, Twitter, and all that shit and we will announce things when we can!
17. Any last words to your fans?
Steven: Thank you to anyone who has ever supported us in any way or just listened to and enjoyed our music! We appreciate it.
