The Dirty Youth Gets Dirty When Talking Of Their Music

The Dirty Youth are a female fronted quintet setting their sights on world domination. Not nestling in to one specific genre is their gift, as they blend rock anthems with metal riffs and a punk attitude. That said, band mates vocalist Danni Monroe, guitarist and keyboardist Matt Bond, and bassist Leon Watkins discuss their latest album "Red Light Fix" and just what else these guys have lined-up.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Leon: It all started in 2007 when Danni and Matt started writing music together and decided they wanted to recruit like minded members to create a band that could break the mold of rock yet keeping the ethics and essence of the genre. So here we are Danni on vocals, Matt on guitar and keys, Luke on guitar, Leon on bass and Phil on the drums. The band has gone a long way since that initial idea, having toured in over 20 different countries with great bands such as Korn, The Rasmus and Reckless Love. We've played major festivals such as Download Festival at Donnington and Hard Rock Calling at Hyde Park to name a few. Our debut album "Red Light Fix" reached number 24 in the UK HMV charts and our single "Fight" has accumulated over 2 Million YouTube views and counting

2. How did you guys come up with your band name?

Danni: We wanted a name that represented a generation that didn't quite fit into the "norms" of every day life. no matter what age you are or where your from you can relate to The Dirty Youth.

3. How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?

Matt: I would say our style is of a Hard Rock and Punk attitude with Pop sensibilities thrown in. We all have many different influences that result in our sound and all listen to many different styles of music. We are very much influenced by modern rock of today such as Foo Fighters and Biffy Clyro etc but also influenced by the ethics of old school rock and the lifestyle of such bands as Guns n Roses, Motley Crue, Nirvana and even as far back as Elvis. We also try to add a bit of quirk to our songs which comes from our love for bands like Queen who were almost theatrical in what they did.

4. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

Matt: We have many different lyrical themes for our songs and they are usually inspired by self experiences or observations of others. We tell stories within our songs and it’s up to the listener how they want to interpret it and hopefully they can relate to it.

5. Do you write your own songs, can you describe the song writing process?

Matt: Yes we write all our own songs. we can't tell you how its magic.

6. You released your album "Red Light Fix" and have a BSides in-store, tell me about it?

Danni: "Red Light Fix" is our debut which has received great reviews from fans and the media alike. It’s full of raw energy and anthems to boot! The original album SOLD OUT! which was amazing so we decided to re-release the album as a special deluxe limited edition including B-Sides we had written and recorded during the album cycle. We felt like we wanted to share as much music with our fans as we could and felt like this was a great way to do it.

7. Can you tell me about the new single off it, "Requiem Of The Drunk" why pick this song as the single? What made it stand out above the rest?

Danni: We felt like Requiem of the Drunk was a great party anthem and as we had been touring a lot the crowds seemed to connect with this song all over the world so it only felt right to release it.

8. What can you tell me about the video for it?

Leon: The video is a montage of clips taken whilst we were on the road on various tours. It shows us in live performance and also behind the scenes where we really like to party. We are all really good mates in the band and enjoy each others company, we share a bond for having a good time on the road and I think this shines through in the video.

9. What are your expectations for this CD?

Danni: We are very happy with the way the CD has been excepted by the fans and media so far and hope this continues.

10. Do you have any new music planned?

Matt: Yes we do, as a matter of fact we are currently putting the final touches to our second album at the world famous Rockfield Studios and your going to be in for quite a treat!

11. What plans do you have for the near future as a band?

Danni: We’re going to concentrate on finishing this next album. Then we plan to promote and tour as much as we can whilst driving towards world domination.
