Fjorsvartnir is a one man band from Copenhagen, Denmark. The style is melodic black metal played in the old school way, added fast drums, lots of guitar solos / melodies, and brutality. The one man himself discussed all about this project of his and how it came to be and what it holds for the coming future.
1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Fjorsvartnir.
Hails! I’m Fjorgynn. That’s easy. This is a one man band, so I do pretty much everything when it comes to the music, besides the most tough keyboard parts, there I get Onslaughter to help me.
2. Can I get a backstory on the band/ band biography?
I started this project ages ago, but first in January 2007 it got its name, and was ready to be published.
The first serious recordings of my first demo 'A Praise To My Ancestors Preponderance' started in the end of 2008, and ended in January 2009. It has just been re-released digital through Grom Records in the beginning of 2013.
In November 2010 I went to the studio again, to record next full length album 'Legions Of The North'. It was released March 2012 through Grom Records, followed up with tons of only great reviews from, around the world. During the end of 2013 I will enter the studio again, to record the material for the 3. full length album.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We all live in Copenhagen, Denmark. It’s okay, but it could indeed be a lot better. But it always can. Hmm..no. Not really. Maybe Eldjudnir and Solbrud (If it has to be black metal bands.)
4. Why did you want this project to be a one man band?
I figured out that it is more easy this way. No time wasted in the rehearsal room, and no arguing about anything.
5. What is it about being a one man project that makes it so much better or worse than having other members be a part of it?
Already answered that. Of course it sometimes sucks to stand with everything by yourself, when it comes to most finances, promotion and all that.
6. How did you come up with your band name?
I wanted something northern, that people would remember (well, i hope they will!), and then one day I saw this name, and knew that was it right away!
7. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?
Hmm of course known names such as Bathory, Emperor and Dissection. I’m a big fan of reverb, so the drums sound on Dissections old records are really cool. Especially the tom tom sound!
8. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?
The theme I guess must be from the good old days. Northern Mythology, battle, wars, eating, drinking, fucking..all that cool shit! But now I've become tired of everyone started writing about the North and its mythologies, so I kind a started creating my own, that I will blend with the original and create some crazy stories from that. Next album will be one long story. There’s no message in it. It’s just cool.
9. What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
I don't know much about what people think about first album ’A Praise To My Ancestors Preponderance’. It haven’t been promoted that much ever..It’s just there. But ‘Legions Of The North’ has been really well reviewed, and I’m really happy and amazed about that!! So thanks again to all of you who reviewed it!! Never heard anyone speaking bad about it, beside myself haha.
10. Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Yeah I have my great session musicians that I use when playing live. We had a few gigs here and there, but would like to get some more soon, and hopefully outside Denmark.
11. Has Fjorsvartnir ever played in the States or plan to do so in the future?
Nope. Only in Denmark. But we would indeed really like to go to the states someday! But I don’t know how many people knows about Fjorsvartnir over there..yet.
12. What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
Because it rocks..simply as that..haha. Nah.. I think we have the good old school sound, and puts everything into it, both when writing new material, record it, and perform it live. We are trying to put up a new live ‘scene’. Bring a hell lot of stuff on the scene, to create the right atmosphere from the beginning.
13. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
There’s 2 links:

www.facebook.com/fjorsvartnir
And by mail: fjorsvartnir@live.dk
14. Why should a metalhead buy your demos/albums?
Because he/she wouldn't regret it if they are into old school melodic black metal.
15. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?
As mentioned, I will go and record next album during September/October 2013. And after that we will really try to get in touch with some promoters so we can maybe get a tour, and gigs here and there.
16. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Hmm..good question. Themselves and the reason why they listen to metal. SKÅL!
