It Lies Within's Zach Scott Talks Touring Trek and Future Activity

Getting their start on the scene in 2008 It Lies Within played showcases here and there then went on to write and record for a few releases and continue to invade new places and make all new music. Frontman vocalist Zachary Scott discusses the upcoming touring plans and music making process.

1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in It Lies Within, and how long the band has been together.

Zach: Hey what's up. I am Zachary Scott and I do lead vocals for the band. It Lies Within has been going a little over five years.

2. Can I get a backstory on the band/ band biography?

Zach: It Lies Within started making their dent on the scene in 2008 with their new line-up and different style. After quickly earning a few opening slots for National Acts at their hometown venue The Machine Shop; ILW immediately hit the studio and prepared for the road. Having toured relentlessly since 2011, you will only see them on bigger and better tour stops!

This life long group of friends are on a non-stop path to shed a different light on the Metalcore scene with their positive message and insane live performances. Because of this diversity they are a very entertaining group to watch.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there?

Zach: We are from Flint, MI. Home of our favorite venue The Machine Shop. Our scene is really growing right now. Bands and promoters are stepping up their game.

4. How did you guys get signed with Luxor Records what have they brought to the table for you guys?

Zach: Luxor approached us after hearing our demo for our first full length "Chrysalis" which is out now in stores and iTunes. They have really worked as a team to help ILW grow to where we are today.

5. You released your debut Chrysalis which has been out for over a year now do you guys have any new music in terms of a follow-up release?

Zach: We just got done in the studio with Jonny McBee from The Browning and will be setting a release date soon for our second full length. This album is going to blow your minds!

6. Who produced Chrysalis and what was it like working with them?

Zach: Josh Wickman from Dreadcore Productions (Within the Ruins, Knights of the Abyss) produced, mixed and mastered "Chrysalis." We have known Josh for years and have a very similar outlook on music. It's nothing short of amazing working with him.

7. Is there any story or concept behind the Chrysalis title?

Zach: Chrysalis to us means a new beginning. Shedding your skin and moving forward. This has a lot to do with our positive message.

8. Who did the cover art for Chrysalis and how much input did you have on it?

Zach: Our good friend Charley Baloney hand drew our cover art. We love working with him! He also does our merch designs and more.

9. Select two songs from Chrysalis and what inspired the lyrics.

Zach: Home is Where the Heart is - Simply being on the road a lot you tend to miss being home. We love where we are from!

Redefined Identity - Simply understanding who you are and where your at in life! We all mistakes but it's how you move forward and learn from them.

10. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

Zach: It Lies Within is a positive message band first and foremost. Some of us have religious backgrounds but we want the listener to decide for themselves.

11. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?

Zach: Way to many to list but a few are As I Lay Dying, We Came as Romans, Miss May I, Woe is Me, The Browning etc.

12. How did you guys come to get your band name and does it have a meaning to it?

Zach: At first when we started this wasn't important to us. We were more focused on writing good songs. One day after a practice session Matt our guitarist just blurted "It Lies Within." We all looked at each other and knew that was it!

13. So how did you get asked to be a part of this year's No Regrets Tour?

Zach: We were apart of last years No Regrets Tour with our great friends in Apparitions. The tradition is staying alive and ILW was asked to Headline this year. We are excited to be on the road with Blood of the Martyrs. They are great dudes.

14. What have you done to prepare yourselves for the tour?

Zach: It's pretty much routine once you do it all the time. Just the basics: Ramen Noodles, PB and J, pack lightly , lots of socks and underwear! Haha.

15. What are you looking forward to about working with the other bands on this tour?

Zach: It's all about building that circle. We all help each other out and help each other grow! That's what this scene is all about!

16. What could one expect from a It Lies Within show?

Zach: Energy, Energy, Energy! We put everything into every show, every night!

17. How do you promote your band and shows?

Zach: We love to reach out to all the bands we play with. We really get involved. But mostly, we are lucky to have a good agent to represent us.

18. Describe your show, visual and musically for us.

Zach: We want to incorporate even more lights into our show! Lots of things in the works for 2014.

19. What do you do to get ready for a show?

Zach: There is definitely a routine we have. The vocalists (Randy and I) do vocal warm-ups in our tour van while everyone else is stretching and getting focused.

20. What else do you guys have planned for the remainder of this year?

Zach: We have another tour in the works yet to be disclosed as well as focusing on our new album release. We are in talks with some new industry leaders and hope to release the news very soon.

21. Any final words?

Zach: STAY POSITIVE! IT LIES WITHIN YOU ALL!
