Metal rockers Rien Ne Va Plus formed in 2008 since then they have had practices non-stop while writing and recording for their yet to be released full-length debut. These guys discussed how the process is coming along for the debut release, what musical passion they have behind the music they've created, and what plans they have between this year into next year.
1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Rien ne va plus, and how long the band has been together.
We are the uprising band Rien ne va plus (RNVP) from Europe Austria.
2. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
The band members are Alex Atlantis (singer, rhythm guitar and songwriter), Smoky Smoke (solo guitar, background voice and songwriter) Mr.Able (DJ, scratches, piano) Tony Campos (Soulfly, ex-Static-X, prong) (played the bass on the new CD ) and Mathias Kren (played the drums on the new CD).
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are from the west side of Austria in the heart of Europe. And it´s not to easy to get good shows here as a rock - metal band, the only musicians which are really worth to be named who came from Austria are Mozart (piano) and Falco. And all good things are 3 now RNVP! :)
4. How did you guys come up with your band name?
We always were looking for a interesting special band name which stay in peoples mind. So we are lucky to have that special french name Rien ne va plus it comes from roulette.
5. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?
We have different styles, Smokey plays that really heavy metal sound while our DJ plays those hip hop crossover elements with a lot of rock and some punk in between. So we've worked on those styles and now have some really different songs like metal, hardcore with some riffs and a few rock numbers for the soul.
6. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?
Be yourself! You can´t be someone else! So be the best yourself who you can be! Never surrender! Give something back!
7. Where are you in the recording process of the new album?
Right now we are in the mastering process with West West Side music in NY. They masters bands like Atreyu, Hatebreed, The Black Dahlia Murder, Madball, Unearth and many more.
8. What has it been like to work with producer Ulrich Wild? How has the producer aided the recording process?
We really enjoyed to work with Ulrich bacause he really understands how to engineering all the sounds like the great guitar sounds we have and the massive drums. :) It was really a blast to work with him! We also worked alot on the pre-production so we kinda knew how the songs will look like and we just had small things to change at the recording process. :)
9. How about working with Alan Douches what has he done to make this recording the best it can be?
We worked with Alan a few years ago on our demo song All Delightz and we were super happy with him so we choose him again for the whole album. He knows how to pump up the sounds. :)
10. Where are you recording the album?
We recorded the album in Los Angeles, California out in Hollywood at the Wilderness Studios.
11. What label will be releasing the album?
We are not sure yet.
12. How would you describe the overall sound of the new album?
Clear, Massive, and Powerful.
13. Did the band have any definitive goals they were shooting for before the recording process began for this album?
Yeah, the goals were recording the album in the best way we can! And that´s absolutely what we did.
14. Are you using any new instrumentation you've never used in the recording process before?
We worked a lot with "keys" so we have some new synthesis in there witch gives our metal sounds the right spice and we also used some orchestral stuff like piano and strings so we have the right flair.
15. When did you start writing for this album? How was the songwriting process different/similar to previous Rien ne va plus releases?
We wrote songs over the last few years, so we had to choose 13 songs out of 100 and we gave our best to pick the best of them.
16. Can you go into one or two tracks on the new album? If so, can you give us the track title and brief description of how the track sounds and how it came about?
Well, I think every song has it´s own story, that´s kinda the way how we choose those songs for
the album. But what I can say is... we have a few cool features on our album like Shifty from crazy town.
I think that´s a good story to tell; I had a cover on my mind, but smoky was not so ok with that idea, so I started to remix a song and then we had that feeling this is a song for a new metal number and we need rap on that track and when shifty came into the studio, he was cool with my lyrics but he asked me if he can pimp them up and I was like... yeah sure and out of this came this super track "Let the house rock feat. Shifty". :)
17. How is the vibe in the studio?
The vibes were great. I think everyone who worked in a studio know´s how it is... It´s a good feeling but it´s also hard hard work. And like we said before we wanted to get the best out of it! So we put all our energies into this! But we also had a lot of fun!
18. How’s the mixing going?
Mixing process was not to easy... because we mixed the songs overseas witch means Ulrich mixed them in Hollywood and we listened to them in Austria. So it took a lot of time, but also here we wanted the best out of it and that´s what it is.
19. Are there any surprises on the album?
Yeah! We have to say the other features surprised us because 2 of them were lucky situations. :) But we it´s a secret until the album get´s out.
20. Are there any collaborations on the album?
21. What did you decide to call this album?
That´s the way we go!
22. Who did the album artwork and can you describe it and what it means?
We have different designs and designers. we are not sure yet witch is the best. But we´ll choose this also from the heart so it will be the right artwork for this album.
23. When can we expect the new album to be released?
As soon as it is ready. :)
24. Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?
Yeah sure we play live shows but like I said it´s not to easy here in Austria. So we planing for a Europe tour.
We had shows with Soulfly. Biohazard, Papa Roach etc...
25. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?
More good live shows, more good videos, and more good music. :)
