October 2013

Blood On The Dance Floor have announced plans of releasing an all acoustic record in December called "Blood Unplugged". A message from the band says "We will be releasing an acoustic album with our best tracks including "Believe", "Bewitched", and "Sexting". #BLOODUNPLUGGED will be out in DEC." "Bewitched" is the first single off this release which can be purchased via iTunes HERE with cover artwork below.

Independent-pop-goth-post-punks The Exploding Boy have been hard at work writing and recording for their follow-up release to 2011's "The Black Album". Now that some time has passed their latest album simply titled "Four" takes their musical trait to a whole new level. A few of the band mates got together to discusses this achievement and future plans in-store.

THE EXPLODING BOY
JOHAN - VOCALS + ACUSTIC GUITAR
STEFAN - VOCALS + ELECTRIC GUITAR
NICK - KEYBOARDS
LARS - ELECTRIC LEAD GUITAR

1. You guys have released your fourth album to date entitled "Four" - what comes to mind?

JOHAN: Have we already made four albums? Fuck we're good!

STEFAN: Well done guys, now we just sit back and let the world be amazed.

NICK: The new great album, even greater than the last one!

2. So how does this release compare, differ, and evolve from "The Black Album"?

Stefan: The release it self differ in that way that we have a bigger record company backing it up this time, which means less job for us when the album was recorded - aka, good times.

Johan: I feel there is a bit from all of our albums in this one.

Nick: For this one we have a bigger budget and I think you can hear that in the sound.

Johan: It feels like a "best-of" album, but with new songs.

3. Is there any story or concept behind the "Four" title?

Stefan: Ramones, One, two, three, four... The best count-in a band ever.

Mick: There are no secrets hidden in the title this time. It´s our fourth album and we are four members, thats it.

4. Who produced "Four" and what was it like working with them?

Stefan: In all the process of recording, mixing, mastering and all of that we are slaves to ourselves. Lars is our producer together with Johan Syrén and Daniel Kaufeldt who are close friends of ours. We totally believe in our own opinions and taste and therefore don't feel the need of using someone from the outside.

Nick: But this is the first time we evolved Johan Syrén in the process. He´s got great knowledge in music and owns a top notch studio that we used this time.

5. Who did the cover art for "Four" and how much input did you have on it?

Nick: It´s all DIY.

Stefan: Me and Nicklas has done all the artwork through out the years.

Nick: We did one in black, one yellow, and one white so it was time for a red one.

6. How was the vibe in the studio?

Johan: I liked the vibe. It is always a process. And it is not a process if there aren't a lot of different feelings down the road.

Stefan: As always its a real shitty time in the beginning, knowing you have this marathon in front of you, but the closer you get to the end, the more excited you get. But in all i think this album was the most relaxing to make, it went pretty smooth throughout all of the studio
process.

7. Select two songs from "Four" and what inspired the lyrics.

Stefan: Don't know which one to choose, but i can say in all of the lyrics on this album, its not that much a state of a relationship that it was on earlier albums - its more of at state of life on this one.

Johan: Yes, Stefan say it well. I think the lyrics are also darker, but more realistic somehow. Comes from a place deeper than the old ones.

8. How would you describe the overall sound of the new album?

Johan: It is a journey through a lot of different places with different landscapes, but the road is the same.

Stefan: Its the perfect hybrid between the first hard hitting chords on Therapy?´s "Screamager" and the epic voyage of Depeche Modes "Behind the Wheel"...

Nick as I said before, we fill out the gap between indie pop and goth, with a punkish touch.

9. Do you any feel any pressure whatsoever to do this follow-up release?

Stefan: No.

Nick: Since we do this all for our selves there are no pressure. If somebody likes it it is just a bonus.

Johan: Not really. I have never felt any pressure when we release a new album.

10. Are there any surprises on the album?

Johan: As usual, surprisingly good songs!

Stefan: No. Or. Maybe. I was kind of surprised with the "bossanova" drums on "Get It Out".

11. Are there any collaborations on the album?

Stefan: Making music together in this band is a constant struggle and collaboration with yourself and the other band members...

Nick: Our close friend, and fifth member, Johnny has provided with some in-puts and also contributed with the lyrics to the last song on the album, Sacred To Death.

12. Whatís the writing and recording process for you?

Nick: I don´t do much. Johan and Stefan writes the lyrics, I just get call down to the studio when it is time to add some keyboards and stuff.

Stefan: A constant way of getting through the life....

Johan: Something that I just do to feel good. Works every time.

13. Is it important for you to paint visual pictures with the songs?

Johan: I don't think like that.

Stefan: No. Not at all. Music is more than just to paint visual pictures. Beside the obvious hearing the music, there is the feelings that it stimulates, there is perhaps a beat that knocks on your chest, its the feeling of knowing where a song might take a turn. There is just so much more that just painting a visual picture with music. So no. That is not important.

Johan: If someone else paint pictures with our help that's fine of course. I like the feelings inside me, as feelings not pictures.

14. Where is the new material headed?

Johan: Where it is going, or what? Into the future..?

Stefan: Don't get the question. Do you?

Nick: It´s heading towards a wider audience.

15. What are the remaining plans that you guys have for the rest of this year?

Johan: Watching TV in my bed.

Stefan: Well, since Sweden is going in to five-six months of darkness from now, its all about surviving.

Nick: We are planning an European tour in January and then aim for the summer festivals in 2014 - See you there! Cheers, Nick

California rockers Living Dead Lights have just released their debut single and video for the song "This Is Our Evolution". The single comes off the band's upcoming debut full-length "Black Letters" coming out on January 27th 2014 via GB Sound Label. Guitarist Alan Dämien said, “Most people have a good idea about what they want in life yet they have no idea how they’re going to achieve it. We all get hung up on bad habits, life events and become comfortable in our own personal situations. This song was written to wake people up and help find themselves, to learn how to make whatever changes within themselves they need to evolve and move forward.” Check out the video HERE.

Lost In Atlantis is a female fronted Electronic/Rock Band based in Phoenix, Arizona. LIA consists of Elisabetha Rosnowski, Tim Pinedo, Eric Pinedo, David Allen, and Ryan Streeter. Since forming they have played countless showcases and tours being featured on various TV appearances plus recently winning YouTube's Musicians Wanted Competition. Frontwomen Elisabetha Rosnowski or "Liz" discusses the band's win with the YouTube contest and upcoming touring plans and what they do on the road!

1. Congrats on winning YouTube's Musicians Wanted Competition. What was running through your mind when you heard the news? Where were you when you heard this news?

Liz: At first I didn't answer the phone because I didn't recognize the number. I was at Disneyland at the time in line and I listened to the voicemail they left me. As I was listening I started jumping up and down and everyone in line was looking at me funny. I then started yelling we won the YouTube competition!!!! I called them back right away and they told me " I think we are about to make your Disneyland experience even better"!!!! Which they did of course!

2. How does it feel to be coming out to Los Angeles, California to make this music video and do you have an idea as to which song will be picked?

Liz: We had the great opportunity of being able to pick out whichever song we wanted. So it's going to be off of our new record "Lover Freak". The song we went with is called "Zombie Love" and the video for it can be seen HERE.

3. Do you guys have any new music in the works?

Liz: Yes, we just recently released our album called "Lover Freak" with producer Erich Talaba. He's recorded with artists like; Yellowcard, Fall Out Boy, Anberlin, Sarah Bareilles etc. We also just filmed our first single "Zombie Love" with director Raul Gonzo from RSM media. The music video will be released really soon!!!!

4. You guys will be going on tour soon enough what have you done to prepare yourselves for this tour?

Liz: We are all getting into shape because being on tour takes a huge toll on your body. Especially with Type 1 Diabetes I've been trying to eat really healthy and take more control of my health before we hit the road. We've also been playing some shows with bigger bands like Sick Puppies and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus to get back into the groove of things.

5. What other bands will be joining you on this tour?

Liz: This will be our first DIY tour so it's going to be ourselves and the road. On our other tours we've played with bands like Halocene, Gabe Kubanda,Take Me to the Pilot and School boy Humor (now Beneath the Sun).

6. Is there any song that when you play it live on stage makes your adrenaline levels kick in and make you want to go hyper?

Liz: I seriously think that's every single song we play. My band members have to remind me before the set to calm down and focus because I can get out of hand on stage sometimes. Haha!

7. When it comes to performing each and every night does the time stand still or does it fly by when performing?

Liz: Time seems to fly so fast when we are performing. A 45 minute set seems like 5 minutes. Time flies when you're rocking out and enjoying life! Also, there are moments on stage when I stand in front of the crowd of people and soak in all their love and passion. That's when time stands still. That moment when you and the audience connect.

8. What is one special effect or stage prop that you would want to use or see during your shows?

Liz: Lasers. Lots and lots of lasers!!! Let's not forget our fog machine too!! It creates epic-ness!!!

9. What has been the biggest banner that you have used during any of your tours?

Liz: Our amp scrims are on both sides of the stage and they have our CD design on it. I think they're about 6 ft by 6 ft.

10. Where haven't you guys toured or played but you would like too?

Liz: I think anywhere in Europe and China or Japan!

11. What would one expect to see from one of your shows?

Liz: Passion and a LOT of rocking out! You have to come and see for yourself.

12. Describe your show, visually and musically for us.

Liz: Visually we have our own stage boxes, stage banners, lasers and fog machine. Depending on the venue we can either look really rad or semi rad lol. Musically we consider our music to be rocktronica. A perfect blend between rock and dance music. So expect to dance and head bang or mosh at our shows!

13. What do you do to get ready for a show?

Liz: I like to do vocal warm ups and drink tons of H2O. I stretch a tiny bit and then hit the stage.

14. What’s the best and worst shows you've ever played?

Liz: I don't think there is any show that would be classified as our worst. Sure we've been effed over by promoters but everything is a learning experience. Our worst shows can become our best experience because we've learned not to make those same mistakes as before. On a side note, our best shows would have been when we played Vans Warped Tour 2013 on the Kevin Says Stage for a little over a week. It has always been my dream to be able to play at VWT. Being chosen by Kevin Lyman himself was truly a blessing!

15. What do you miss most from home when you’re on tour?

Liz: We all miss our mommies and daddies. Sometimes we have mommy phone calls and you find all of the band members calling their moms at the same time. We all miss our little fuzzy animals at home too. But we meet a lot of them on the road too so it kind of makes up for it. We also have a lot of tour moms all over the world who've opened up their hearts and homes to our band and spoiled us on the road.

16. Have you noticed the economy affecting your tour attendance or merch sales?

Liz: Yeah. Well it really depends on where we are playing. We sell the most on tour but when we are home it's harder to make sales.

17. What are the largest and smallest crowds you've played in front of?

Liz: Smallest crowds probably have been like 4-10 people and our largest have probably been 1,000.

18. What was the first concert you attended as a fan?

Liz: The first concert I've even attended was Britney Spears when I was about 13 or 14. I still love her haha!

19. Once the tour is over what do you have planned afterwards?

Liz: More tours! Always and constantly being on the road. Hopefully a bigger band wants us to hop on a tour with them.

20. Anything else you'd like to add or want to say?

Liz: Don't forget to keep your eyes open for our new music video "Zombie Love"!!!! "Like" us on Facebook.com/LostInAtlantis and Instagram #LostinAtlantis. Thanks for the interview. :)

It’s looking like 2014 will start off with some good will, as Falling in Reverse and Escape the Fate have announced plans to team up on the ‘Bury the Hatchet’ tour. This is a bill that many fans thought might never come after frontman Ronnie Radke‘s tumultuous split from Escape the Fate in 2008.

To his credit, Radke, who now fronts Falling in Reverse, came up with the idea for the trek for the fans, deciding it was time to put aside past differences and give older Escape the Fate fans a chance to see the onetime cohorts playing the same stage together again.

We spoke with both Radke and Escape the Fate’s current frontman Craig Mabbitt about the trek and both revealed that the fans were the primary consideration in putting together the run. Radke explained, “I just woke up one day and thought what better philosophy could there be than offering them a tour, so they agreed and we’re all set to do it on Jan. 15 … and it’s all for the fans. I know they’ll be so excited, so I just can’t imagine.”

Mabbitt added that he’s had a similar idea of putting together a trek with his former band Blessthefall, and while that hasn't happened yet, he’s thrilled with the idea of playing shows again with Radke and his new group Falling in Reverse. “I got an email from Ronnie saying, ‘Would you be down to do this?’ and I said, ‘You don’t know how down I am. I've had this idea for a while,’” says Mabbitt. “So it came together pretty well, and all he had to do was ask.”

As for getting past old wounds, Radke stated, “There’s a lot of respect there, so there’s no worry of bad stuff happening. It’s been great and everyone’s on the same page. It’s like old times, cause I’ve had fun hanging out with the guys and it’s all good.”

And Mabbitt feels that the fans of the two bands will follow the groups’ lead. He explains, “We pretty much told each other that people aren't going to be allowed to be sourpusses. It’s just stupid. You don’t belong here then. The only turmoil there that’s been with our fans that we have seen has been that they think it’s not okay to like both bands. And really, at the end of the day, it hurts both bands. It hurts both of us. So to have these kids be like it’s water under the bridge, now you have two great artists that you can support.”

Both bands are still figuring out what they will bring to the trek in terms of stage setup, but fans of both acts can definitely expect a show that is not to be missed. The tour gets underway Jan. 15 in Los Angeles and will make 24 stops before concluding on Feb. 14 in Pomona, California. Chelsea Grin and Survive This will provide support on all dates. Tickets for all dates will go on sale this Thursday, Oct. 31. Check out the exclusive interview AP had with Craig and Ronnie HERE.

This sold-out performance was Mastodon's first show at the legendary Brixton venue. Metalcore act Killswitch Engage has been around for nearly 15 years through that span they have surpassed a wide range of activity from touring and writing and recording material to even some line-up changes. Bringing back former vocalist Jesse Leach into the mix of things got everyone hyped up and now that they are upon their sixth album to date "Disarm The Descent" a whole lot more touring and releases are to come. Guitarist Joel Stroetzel discusses their recent touring route and future plans.

1. Introduce yourself, tell me what role you do in Killswitch Engage.

Joel: Yeah my name is Joel and I play guitar.

2. You are currently on tour what can the fans expect to hear in this setlist?

Joel: Well we're trying to do a fairly different set than we do on recent tours, having some new material and old material we haven't played in years. So it's a little bit different for us and for those who may have seen us in the last couple of years.

3. When it comes to performing each and every night does the time stand still or does it fly by when performing?

Joel: Usually the set list flies by when performing while the rest of the day is slowed down. But it's always a good time and fun for us.

4. What has been the biggest banner that you have used during any of your tours?

Joel: I'm not too sure the one we have now is similar to the latest record and is probably the biggest one we have been carrying around on tour.

5. When a tour comes to an end what happens to the banners and other stage props themselves - do you guys take them home with you and prop them up at home?

Joel: No no no  usually we'll just keep them in storage and bring them back out for some shows.

6. How many banners do you think you have stored away from the previous tours you have done over the years?

Joel: We have a collection of them.

7. You guys have toured a lot over the years but where hasn't Killswitch Engage set foot in?

Joel: We've never been to South Africa will go there next year and Asia haven't been to a few places and we haven't been to Iceland either.

8. Once the tour in the USA is over what do you have planned afterwards?

Joel: We're going home for 2 months for some time off then do some stuff overseas for next year.

9. Your latest release "Disarm the Descent" is your sixth album to date and first in a while to feature again vocalist Jesse Leach who has returned to the band - how does this all make you feel and what runs through your mind?

Joel: It feels great and funny it feels like he never left. It's all going well and everyone is having a good time so far so good.

10. Do you see Jesse to remain here for good or will Howard be coming back in the future or is there no telling?

Joel: Naw I think he is back for good.

11. Next year you will have been a band for 15 solid years, do you have an idea as to what you plan to do as far as celebrating?

Joel: I'm sure we will celebrate some way probably involve beer and loud music should be fun.

12. Can you tell me the story as to how the name Killswitch Engage came about?

Joel: I think it was Mike our bass player who was watching X Files and heard the word Killswitch and the other word Engage came from when we were all in other bands and they just weren't working out. So everything had just come to a stop where we just put ourselves into a Killswitch Engage mode. That was kinda the idea of it.

13. Do you guys have any new music in the works in terms of a follow-up release?

Joel: Little bits and pieces here and there but nothing officially yet.

14. You've been a part of Roadrunner Records since "Alive or Just Breathing" this must mean that your relationship with them is still going well?
Joel: Yes it's still good they have kept us around so things are definitely good with them.

15. For that album you went and performed the whole thing front to back will you be doing this again for other releases - do you enjoy doing this?

Joel: I don't think we'll do that again. I think it was just a onetime thing so we wanted to do something with Jesse being back it just all worked right but not something we'll be doing again.

16. You released a LIVE DVD but have yet to release a LIVE CD or LIVE CD/DVD combo - when can we expect to see a new release?

Joel: Yeah we've been talking about it but not sure when it's going to happen so maybe something will happen on this year and we'll talk about it next year.

17. What else can we expect to see from you guys for this year leading into next year?

Joel: We'll be doing more touring and overseas stuff then work on new material get something out sooner rather than later.

18. Any final words you'd like to add or say to the fans?

Joel: Sure like to thank everyone who's been with us over the years.

Black Lodge is an American industrial rock band founded on June 12, 2012 by Johnny Royal. Based out of Hollywood, California, Black Lodge is comprised of Gavin Reign (vocals), Johnny Royal (guitar and programming), Christopher Royal (guitar), Ventura XIII (bass guitar), and Justin Greene (drums). These guys have been together for about a year, during which they went and wrote and recorded and released the prologue in a form of an EP, the first half of this incredible story; where the continuation of the second half will be foretold in the full-length album "The Diary of Tomahawk", due out next year. These guys have got a lot in-store as it were, with a graphic novel, toys, merchandise, plus touring a lot! Founder and lead guitarist Johnny Royal discusses all these matters and more!

1. How long has the band been together and where is the band from?

Johnny: The band has not been together very long when I put it together, I handpicked everybody and started writing everything first before rehearsing wanting to get the sound and direction we were going for first. So then we worked on the EP for the past year, then our first show was for friends at a studio in Hollywood in June then we had gone on tour. So it's about a year that we've been together been playing together and after this tour it will have been about 50 dates. Everyone is from different places, drummer  Justin is from San Diego, California, vocalist Gavin is from New York City, bassist Ventura is from Los Angeles, California, rhythm guitarist Chris is from the East Coast and I am the lead guitarist from Spain.

2. Why did you want to call yourselves Black Lodge?

Johnny: Well that name, Black Lodge comes from the idea of this planet, that there are certain places that act like a temple of serial worlds, that is this one, and if you put those prophets in one place, it can come from one side to the other side.

3. What type of band are you?

Johnny: We're a crazy band. Our music is industrial with hard rock and melodic.

4. Who are your musical influences?

Johnny: Collectively through the band we're big fans of catchy songs with an atmosphere to them. We love Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson. I grew up listening to hardcore punk and thrash metal which has influenced my writing, like the song "Never Clean", breaks out in a punk rock sense with some thrash metal to it. Gavin is more into dark wave and goth, Justin is drawn from hardcore music, and Chris has different elements of new wave, industrial and rock n roll. We all come from different backgrounds, but are all within the same environment, and that's what makes Black Lodge so unique and honest.

5. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Johnny: This EP is the first half of the full-length album we have coming out next year called "The Diary of Tomahawk". So there are two levels of what the songs are about. There are 13 chapters of this story - 13 songs, 13 music videos, and a comic book, is all being tied into this unique story. The story line to it, is the music and bringing out that light and awareness into the world through this medium. So the songs on the top level start with the first chapter "Never Clean", which is about introducing this young American female, who's descended from this line of individuals, and her bloodline on her mother's side takes place in this routine, with something happening with her father in their home. So in the first video of "Never Clean", you see this horrible thing happening and it starts off with the band telling her story through her journal, we're both there sensing one another but have not come together yet.

The second chapter "Drag", is about the willingness to step through the door, when this girl steps through the door she becomes that depth and views these different powers happen. As she goes through the story the next third chapter "Thankful", produced and co-written by Lee Miles crosses over into this world with these forces and they need to be balanced. The other level is a story of love and the lyrics are about not feeling clean or holy in a sense of matter where love is not being strong between two people. The lyrics in "Drag", deal with feelings and ideas of someone being dragged down. So the music's objective is being on all of these levels and emotions, a lot of people go to music to experience happiness and joy, but a lot of people look for answers from another aspect. So we're playing by informing people on who you're meant to be by walking into these sides of the world walking in-between the two.

6. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

Johnny:  The way the songs begin is by starting them off with a programmed drum beat then guitar melody and bass. Then Gavin comes in with his own ideas along with everyone else and we discuss how these songs make us feel. We have a great team of people that we work with and are always expanding it. Gavin and I are the "core" of the writing.

7. You've just released your self-titled debut EP why self-title it?

Johnny: I think with the album coming out we did not want to confuse people. We didn't want to have it be part 1 of "The Diary of Tomahawk" and then part 2 of "The Diary of Tomahawk". I guess you can say this EP is the prologue to the album and a taste of what to come.

8. This EP also happens to be the first half to your upcoming full-length "The Diary of Tomahawk" how do these two compare, differ, and evolve from one another?

Johnny: The comparison is the similarities between the constant struggle for the character/ Tomahawk is our goddess and goes through this pain and horrible things. Through the end she goes through this transformation. The songs will go deeper and I don't mean heavier I mean the seriousness and the lyrical content will be in-depth and will find the light of all of it.

9. What's your favorite song on the EP right now?

Johnny: My favorite song on the EP is "Thankful", produced and co-written by Lee Miles and that song is unexpected from the band because having a pop song structured we were discussing it and how we would take a pop song and just fuck it up by adding some industrial elements and heavier guitars to it. But that has to be my favorite song on the EP.

10. Is it important for you to paint visual pictures with the songs?

Johnny: Absolutely it's really like a map in the music video for "Never Clean", there is a map and the idea behind it is having that visual road map in front of you.

11. Can you tell me about the graphic novel you have made and what it was like to work with Marvel Comic's artist Wayne Robinson?

Johnny: Wayne is fantastic. It's taken longer than we expected it too. But we wanted it to be something we all wanted to do. We all had wanted to see those next chapters right away but it was worth waiting a bit for them. Chapters 1-3 are on our website which you can download for free.

12. Where did the idea for the comic book come from?

Johnny: It was an idea that I had started about this story where a lot of bands I had listened to growing up had done with their concepts for it be albums or characters. So for me I wanted to take that into this band. So every record we plan to release will be concept based - telling the story and elements of what's going to happen next. The whole idea had come from different experiences from my personal life to friendships, family, and relationships, that I and the other guys have dealt with and even had some in-common too. It's all about learning how we evolve by being with each other while out on the road or in the studio making music. If there is an issue we can talk to one another because we're best friends. That's where the whole concept idea had come from.

13. How many chapters and issues will there be?

Johnny: There will be total 13 chapters and the number 13 is special to this story. The next record will be a continued expansion of what's happening with this character and will grow and evolve like we will.

14. Will you be releasing the comic in physical format or just digital format?

Johnny: Limited edition for physical copies but those will come numbered and signed by the band those being limited to 1,000 copies with this EP release. The entire graphic novel comic book will also be a limited edition release and if you're a big graphic novel comic book nerd like us - having something from Wayne Robinson is truly awesome.

15. You guys are currently on tour - how's the touring been for you guys?

Johnny: Last night we played in Scottsdale, Arizona and meet up with Pop Evil in Florida this Sunday. We're really excited about that and playing more shows for people.

16. What could one expect from a Black Lodge show?

Johnny:  It's all of us mirroring on what's going on with what we do. From the beginning of a show there's a lot of things going on with the high energy, other elements will be put into production as we continue on. But it's all a festival of celebration of life just having some amazing music that's good old rock n' roll.

17. What do you miss most from home when you're on tour?

Johnny:  My bed haha. Probably also my studio I own my own studio where we record everything. Miss our family and friends Tori, Zack, and Lee. But what's great about it is that we're best friends and we go with each other wherever we go.

18. Have you noticed the economy affecting your tour attendance or merch sales?

Johnny: No I think to me a lot of that stuff is a bunch of BS. There's this theory of marketing called Love Marketing that idea is that people truly buy what they really love. To me if you go out and see a band and love them and only have $10 to buy the album or put into gas then I will buy the album and walk home.  I think if people love it they will buy it and merch sales have been great so far.

19. Do you have any tour stories?

Johnny:  I don't know if I should. Last night's show was a lot of fun, our friends had come out so we were all together cooking out back of the venue so while cooking the hot dogs and burgers didn't taste so great - tasting more like choral fluid. But we're always having fun and a lot of crazy stuff is always happening with the band like while out on the road, we spotted 3 ravens that flew with us for miles then we came across a gas station called Tomahawk so things like that point to something big is going to happen for us.

20. What are your upcoming holiday plans?

Johnny: I always cook Thanksgiving every year so the band gets together with our friends and family at the Clubhouse where I live and call it. My family lives in Pennsylvania and will be going there to see my family for Christmas.

21. What plans do you have for the future?

Johnny: Next year our goal is to do 200 shows living on the road as much as we can. Finishing the record then releasing it. We have 13 music videos with 3 made and 10 more to go, toys are being made from the characters of the story - the graphic novel continuing and just spreading the word of music and playing as much as we can.

22. Anything else you'd like to add or say to your fans?

Johnny: Yeah rock n' roll is alive and well and I think this EP is a testament of that. We hope that you give this a shot and if you like it buy it and keep us out on the road. We love our fans and family and friends and we will be seeing you all very soon.

A storm is coming. After years of hard work, commitment and respect for an industry, which doesn't always reciprocate, Johannesburg-based post-hardcore/rock group Climate Control is ready to justify the hype and assert their place at the forefront of the South African alternative music scene, with the release of their highly anticipated debut album, Preludes. The entire band got together to discuss their latest album and upcoming plans.

1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Climate Control, and how long the band has been together.

Nic: I'm the guitarist and vocalist, and I handle the lyrical side of things. We've been together as a band for around 5 years now.
Luca: I play the six-string box.
Jacques: I play the drums and handle live samples.
Wes: I'm the bassist and I also do harsh vocals, like swearing and stuff.

2. Can I get a backstory on the band/ band biography?

Wes: Climate Control started properly in 2008. Nic, Luca, and Jacques are the founding members of Climate Control, and I joined the band in 2010 as the bassist and scream vocalist. Our sound has evolved quite a bit over the years but I think we've kept our core sound and feel for the music we write. We've filmed a music video for our song "A Bouquet of Hate, An Ocean of Questions", and we released our debut album 'Preludes' in May this year.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Wes: We're based in Johannesburg, South Africa. The metal and alternative scene is growing faster and there have been more and more huge International acts coming over. Local bands we'd like to recommend are Freedom For Your Life, Bombs & Issues, and Poverty of Ideals. Rad music and rad people.

4. How did you guys come up with your band name?

Wes: Our name is based on a person's emotional climate, and our goal is for people to relate to our music on a very personal level. In that way, we hope our songs can be seen as emotive tools.

5. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?

Luca: We gain influence from a big range of genres, from lighter and heavier music, and we're all influenced by different music or bands at times, but I think our biggest influences would be Underoath or Deftones.

6. Are you guys signed to a label or unsigned? Which way do you prefer your band to be? Do you hope to eventually get signed?

Luca: We are an unsigned band. I think it's getting more apparent that being independent is not a bad thing and that a band can be successful without a label, but I think being signed to a label would be great.

7. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

Nic: I don't particularly have a specific message I try to get across in my lyrics. I base them on personal experiences and observations; anything that moves me in some way. So I suppose the main thing I'd hope to achieve with my lyrics is to evoke emotions and thoughts in people, and for people to relate to them in some way.

8. What would you say is your favorite song off this album and why?

Luca: My favorite song off the album is "Spiralling..." because of the large amount of energy the song gives off. It's also very fun to play.
Nic: For me it's either "Clear Perception" or "Praeludium".
Wes: Definitely "Praeludium" and "The Road".
Jacques: "Praeludium".

9. Who produced Preludes and what was it like working with them?

Jacques: Clinton Watts from Watts Productions. Working with Clint was, to say the least, a pleasure. We recorded a few demo tracks with Clint prior to our debut album 'Preludes' and the experience has been nothing but positive. His attitude towards the music scene and the production of music is on a very professional level. After our demo tracks, we started with 'Preludes' and the experience continued from there. I would be lying if I said he was not a big influence for us; he strives for absolute perfection and it definitely reflects in the work he does. As a band we have learnt a lot from Clint and hopefully we can do so further with more albums in the future.

10. Is there any story or concept behind the Preludes title?

Nic: The album name and artwork are loosely based on the poem of the same name by T.S. Eliot. The imagery described in the poem really inspired me and I thought it fit well with the album as a whole. Our own meaning behind the title is that all of the songs are lyrically about some sort of prelude to an end.

11. Who did the cover art for Preludes and how much input did you have on it?

Wes: Ivana Raguž designed our album art. We all had our fair share of input and design ideas, and it turned out to be great and exactly what we were going for.

12. Select two songs from Preludes and tell me what inspired the lyrics.

Nic: I normally don't like talking about the meaning of our songs in too much detail, as I'd prefer people to develop their own meanings and connections with them. As broad concepts, "Clear Perception" is about someone who formed a big part of my foundation in terms of friendship and support, who just became a different person and faded away. So that song is about someone close alienating you and the gap they leave behind in a sense. "Praeludium" is about the end of the world, and this kind of grim acceptance that everyone experiences at the same time when they realise it really is the end.

13. What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?

Jacques: It might sound like a cliché, but I feel we have a unique sound. We draw a lot of influence from other artists and the like, but I personally believe that we offer something that is not reproduced or a carbon copy of any other artist/band. We had very humble beginnings; we started out from scratch and we've been working hard ever since. All four of us are very dedicated to the band and with everything we do we strive to do it with passion and professionalism. We love what we do and our love for the music transitions into our performance.

14. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Jacques: Our music is available now across the internet. Our album can be purchased at any of our live gigs, and furthermore we also sell band apparel and other merchandise. If you wish to buy our album digitally you can do so through iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/za/album/preludes/id649305008 or Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Preludes-Climate-Control/dp/B00CW53QEI/ref=sr_1_1?s=dmusic&ie=UTF8&sr=1-1&keywords=climate+control. One of the singles from our debut album 'Preludes' can be streamed here: http://garycool.com/2013/03/coolest-song-in-the-world-climate-control-this-chemical-overload/.

15. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?

Luca: We are hopefully going to be touring South Africa soon, and hopefully tour internationally one day. Fans can expect a new music video and more music in the future for sure!

16. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Jacques: If you’re a first time listener the only thing I’d want you to remember is the experience you felt. Every person is different and every listener will experience something only they will feel and I would be content if listening to our album for the first time gave you something memorable, something that only you can describe (if it can be described even). As musicians we find comfort in providing music that listeners will love and in turn this motivates us to better ourselves and take what we do to the next level.

17. Any final words of wisdom?

Nic: Just stick to whatever it is that you love and are passionate about, and don't let up until you're satisfied with what you've achieved. There'll be times when doubt and demotivation kick in, but you'll only find out if it's what you really want to do if you push through.

Thrash metal punks Toxic Holocaust has been around for nearly 15 years and through their time they have played countlessly while also write and record material for now five albums! Main man himself Joel Grind discusses the latest album and future plans.

1. Toxic Holocaust will have been a band for 15 years come next year - what run's through your mind?

Joel: I didn't even realize it until I did some recent interviews, that pointed that out. Honestly it's almost amazing that it's been that long - fifteen years it's gone by so fast. Looking at it I didn't really think it'd been that long.

2. How does it feel to be on album number five?

Joel: Uh it kinda feels awkward it's been such a big accomplishment to have done five of them,
It feels like an accomplishment for me, looking back at when I did the first record - having done five them is really an achievement for me.

3. What's your take on Chemistry of Consciousness as a whole?

Joel: In a way it's combining all of our stuff from our previous records into one - using all of the elements when making the songs not over thinking it, using a lot of catchy riffs and lyrics. I tend to over think things a lot so I just play what I want to hear.

4. Is it important for you to paint visual pictures with the songs?

Joel: Yeah it is actually, I like to visualize what is going on with all of the elements as well.

5. What would be the cinematic equivalent of Chemistry of Consciousness?

Joel: It's hard to say really I'd think Mad Men has a lot to do it but also that it's more of a documentary based record dealing with a lot of the issues we're dealing with right now.

6. Did you get the album you wanted? Is everything on there or were there some things that were just impossible to pull off?

Joel: I think it was pretty close to how I envisioned it - how it is now it's what I wanted it to be and sound on the last record. Musically it's more punk based than before I think now it's taken a heavier direction with this record.

7. Where is the new material headed?

Joel: That's a good question I haven't really thought that far ahead yet. I have a feeling that will be a crossover with this record to the next one. I'm sure a lot of the songs I wrote that didn't make it on this record will be put on that record.

8. You decided to return to the classic yellow Toxic Holocaust logo for this album's cover; will the classic logo remain or will the new logo still be present?

Joel: I don't know. A lot of people hated it or loved it. It wasn't a thing that went away forever it was still around just not on the album cover for our last record - the logo worked for this album cover due to all of the colors and our last one just being black and white. So only time will tell for the logo.

9. Aside from Toxic Holocaust you have done other projects from your self-titled, Tiger Junkies, and War Ripper will we ever see a tour or showcase of Joel Grind's works having all of those acts come together or would that be too much for you to handle?

Joel: A lot of people have asked me if I would do that stuff live and I don't wanna say yes or no - I think it would be fun if they crossed over together but I have always thought of keeping them separately. But I wouldn't mind doing it just don't know where or when.

10. A variety of bands have been playing or doing tours in anniversary celebration of certain albums and "Evil Never Dies" marks the big 10 - will you be doing anything for this release as far as playing it in its entirety?

Joel: I don't know it would be cool to play it in its entirety. It's funny because once we signed with Relapse everyone was drawn to us by our 2008 album "An Overdose of Death" not the first album. It would be fun to do it though.

11. Toxic Holocaust will be on tour through most of November. What can fans expect to hear? More new songs or old songs?

Joel: A combo of both. I don't like it when bands release a new record and just play the new stuff. We will definitely play a lot of the old stuff.

12. You released a live album in 2007 Only Deaf is Real only limited to 500 copies and a live DVD Brazillian Slaughter in 2008 - will you be recording a new LIVE CD or DVD or combo?

Joel: There is nothing planned yet. It usually starts off with a show and if it was good enough to be recorded for something but there is nothing really planned yet.

13. Would you ever consider releasing an all acoustic album or a few songs?

Joel: No our music doesn't really go there. It would be funny to do though.

14. What are your plans for the upcoming holiday season?

Joel: Halloween night we're playing a show in Portland and then Thanksgiving be on tour and Christmas back in Portland and New Years onward just getting ready for more shows and touring.

15. Is there anything that you’d like to say to the Toxic Holocaust fans?

Joel: Just would like to thank them for being here for the past fifteen years - always supporting us in everything we do.

Eyes Set To Kill have been around for quite sometime and with a few line-up changes in between they still manage to do what they do best when it comes to making music. Thus they are upon their fifth album to date "Masks" plus now that they are signed with Century Media Records there is no telling as to just how heavy or far these guys plan to go with their continuing musical careers. Vocalist - lead guitarist Alexia Rodriguez and rhythm guitarist/unclean vocalist Cisko Miranda discusses their latest album and future plans.

1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Eyes Set To Kill, and tell me how does it feel to have had this band be around for 10 long years?

Alexia: I'm Alexia I play guitar and sing. It's been a rough ride but I'm happy the band is the way it is now. We've been through a lot of members but I feel we are perfect as a four piece.

Cisko: I'm Cisko, I do vocals & rhythm guitar. It is kinda wild knowing the band has been around that long, but it definitely feels fresh & new. We've evolved a lot & will probably always keep doing that. It's part of growth.

2. You guys are of course called Eyes Set To Kill - so whose eyes have you set to kill?

Alexia: The name comes from a poem I wrote when I was in high school about this criminal who's "eyes were set to kill". I wanted our name to represent our drive and determination because I feel that those characteristics are the most important things to have when trying to break it as a band.

3. It's been quite sometime since last talking to you guys since 2008 - can you give me a brief summary as to how your releases from "Reach" have evolved, differed, and compared up until this point and time?

Alexia: In the past we have had plenty of 2nd guitarists and vocalists so I think having heir input in songwriting made us who we were then. But for this new album masks, I feel like eyes set to kill is finally the way I wanted it to be because I got to write all guitars and Cisko got to to not only scream but sing on the album. I think having him be a good singer will transcend well later in our career.

Cisko: We also had a lot of time to write Masks. In the past they would just go into the studio & kinda rush things. We were able to take our time with our producer Steve Evetts & make sure things just sounded really good.

4. So tell me what happened with Breaksilence Records you were with them for a while then stepped away then got signed with Century Media Records - do you think being signed with them is more fit for you guys?

Alexia: I don't think break silence was a bad label but I do think they weren't experienced with our genre. They were supportive which is a big thing. But century media has a bunch of female fronted metal bands so I felt like we fit in perfectly.

Cisko: We've had a really good relationship with Century & everyone that works there or a while, even before we signed. They've allowed us to be the band we want to be without trying to change us so much. We're on the same page & that's really important to us.

5. Now "Masks" takes a more heavier direction - why the change, do you think this new material will remain, or will it vary between each and every future release?

Alexia: We like our heavier songs live so i wanted to make sure to capture that type of energy for the stage.

Cisko: I like what we've created on this album. We'll always sound like ESTK, but we're definitely going to play around with this style & try new things all the time.

6. For the album and concept for "Masks" you use plain white masks which you've used and worn in performances, promotion, etc. Will you be wearing these during future performances as well or are they more like a prop for you guys?

Alexia: The masks just represent who we used to be so we like to use em as props. It's good to not forget where you come from because without that past there would be no present.

Cisko: This is the most conceptual release for the band so we'll be playing around with the whole Mask thing for a bit. I don't see us wearing them while playing though, hahaha that be interesting.

7. "Masks" marks the album order as album number five - how does this make you feel - what runs through your mind - did you see you guys reaching to this point in your musical careers?

Alexia: It reminds me of how much we've grown in a positive way. And on the other hand reminds me of all the bullshit we've been through. But hen again fans have stuck with us so we must have been doing something right.

Cisko I'm pretty proud of what this lineup has accomplished this far. We've been through ups & downs just like every band does, but we're really good friends & we've stuck it out. I'm excited for the releases to come.

8. What's your take on "Masks" as a whole?

Alexia; To me, masks is a representation of who we are now and how we are no longer feeling judged and pressure to be someone else. It felt like we used to hide behind masks but now we are finally free to unveil them.

Cisko: For me Masks is about shedding a horrible version of myself & trying to find my true mask. The one that fits me perfectly. In life we all go through stuff & we wear masks when these things happen. Good or bad. These masks help us through our times. Some wear them well, others can't seem to find their true identity. Their true Mask.

9. What's your favorite song on the album right now?

Alexia: my favorite song is killing in your name because I love the opening riff and solo.

Cisko I honestly can't choose a favorite anymore. Hahaha I love the album too much as a whole to just favorite one song. I will say "Surface", & "The New Plague", are lots of fun to play live.

10. Is it important for you to paint visual pictures with the songs?

Alexia: It's more important for us to be able to write about experiences that other people can relate to because to me music is about pulling through. It's more about finding a voice for your emotions when you don't know how to express them.

Cisko: I've always had this idea that people are allowed to understand the song in their own way. Like when I listen to certain songs I just let the song take it's own meaning rather than me trying to decode the song like it's some secret message. Songs should be about feeling & how it connects to you at that time.

11. Did you get the album you wanted? Is everything on there or were there some things that were just impossible to pull off?

Alexia: If I could change anything, I would want more keys and extra ambient parts. I love extra production on albums

Cisko: I'm pretty happy with it, but like I said, we're only going to keep evolving our craft & making it our own.

12. When will we see a LIVE CD or DVD in the works from you guys?

Alexia: We will probably do one next year maybe with some music videos

13. Would you ever consider releasing an all acoustic album or DVD?

Alexia: I think it would be awesome to do an acoustic rendition of masks or even throw some covers on it.

Cisko: That would be sweet. We've been wanting to do some really special covers as a band for a while so we'll see.

14. Alexia Rodriguez released her first debut album "Underground Sounds" in 2010 - what's new in terms of another release?

Alexia: Just want to focus on estk for now. I will definitely put out another solo album but right now I feel it's best to be touring with ESTK non stop and promote masks.

15. What’s coming up for tours and shows?

Cisko: We leave in a week on a month long tour with our label mates Girl On Fire & Kill Devil Hill. We haven't toured much this year & we're itching really bad to play these new songs live. Everyone should check out our Facebook for dates!!

16. What is your opinion on sites posting your guys material and other bands material?

Cisko: You mean like Spotify, & Pandora & stuff like that? I think it's really cool. It's gives people who's never heard of us to check us out & it's just a cool way to get our music out there for the fans.

17. How do you guys feel about the classifications in metal? like deathcore, metalcore and other subgenres and how some get a negative rep.

Alexia; I feel that everyone has their own opinion but it is up to the band to determine what they feel they should be classified as.

18. What is your opinion on the current state of metal?

Alexia: Metal needs more female frontman / songwriters. I feel there are plenty of sexy singers but not enough strong creative songwriters as in musicians. Anyone can be an entertainer or artist on the outside but writing music comes from a special place inside.

Cisko: I also really think Metal & rock n roll in general right now is in a good place. People still buy albums & go to shows to see bands. Bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Deftones, In This Moment, amongst others are proof that good music still can prevail & be relevant in this day where pop & everything computerized is the flavor of the week.

19. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?

Cisko: Only good things.

20. Any final words of wisdom?

Cisko: Reach for the stars! (Woody voice)

Killswitch Engage premiered the video for their latest single “Always” from their April 2013-released album Disarm the Descent today (October 21) on Noisey. The powerful and moving video plays out like a mini film, drawing the viewer in, capturing and holding their interest, thanks to the rich plot and emotionally stirring narrative about the relationship between two brothers. The video was directed by McFarland & Pecci, the filmmaking duo that lensed the band’s video for Disarm the Descent’s first single “In Due Time.” The pair also shot the Disarm the Descent album documentary that was included in the deluxe version of the album.
