Coming from Iceland the band Blood Feud was founded in 2006 by Böðvar Ólafsson, Stefán Pétur Bjarnason, Ingólfur Örn Hallgrímsson and Jakob Reynisson. In the early days they started out by playing covers songs and soon began writing their own material. Thrash metal at first and later on progressing their own variation of thrash/death metal with technical crossovers. This lead to them releasing numerous material and playing shows like any other band would want to do; so now they just have the future to look forward too. Guitarist Stefán Pétur Bjarnason talks about working on new material and who these guys are truly about.
1. Can I get a backstory on the band/ band biography?
Stefán: Coming from Iceland the band Blood Feud was founded in 2006 by Böðvar Ólafsson, Stefán Pétur Bjarnason, Ingólfur Örn Hallgrímsson and Jakob Reynisson. In the early days they started out by playing covers songs and soon began writing their own material. Thrash metal at first and later on progressing their own variation of thrash/death metal with technical crossovers.
Blood Feud´s first release was a four song EP called "Adjustment to the sickest", soon after they began to play local shows and building up a steady fanbase. In 2010 Blood Feud decided to hit the studio and record their first full length album "Hiding behind the light". In middle of the process bassist Ingólfur departed from the band and was replaced by Óskar Rúnarsson former frontman of the band Universal Tragedy. He also joined Böðvar behind the mic, bringing a new sight for the vocals with his heavy growling and making the band more tight and heavier than ever. "Hiding behind the light" was released early 2012 with some good responses. In the same year they placed 2nd in The Wacken Metal Battle in Iceland
Currently the members are working on a new material for their second album, playing shows, label searching and looking into the future with ambition!
2. How did you guys come up with your band name?
Stefán: Böðvar former frontman of the band came with the name I think he found it in a dictionary
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Stefán: We come from very small metal scene here in Iceland but there is a lot of great bands here like Angist, Ophidian I among with others you should really check out!.
4. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?
Stefán: There is no particular lyrical theme in the songs, some are about way people hide who they really are and other about zombie apocalypse like "Infected Prophesy".
5. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?
Stefán: There are so many, Black Sabbath, Kreator, Slayer, Metallica, etc.
6. Is there any story or concept behind the Hiding Behind the Lightn title?
Stefán: There was no concept behind the title but the song is about people who hide them self something and never reveling who they really are.
7. Who produced Hiding Behind the Light and what was it like working with them?
Stefán: We did it all by our self and it was amazing working with us.
8. Who did the cover art for Hiding Behind the Light and how much input did you have on it?
Stefán: His name is Tristan Barnes and we didn't have no input in it, it all came from him. He has dune some awesome artwork for bands here in Iceland for band like Plastic Gods, Azoic and Severed Crotch.
9. Do you guys have any new music in the works as far as a follow-up release?
Stefán: We are now in writing mode and hope that we can release a new album in 2014.
10. Will you be shooting a video for any of the songs off Hiding Behind the Light?
Stefán: No.
11. What are your upcoming touring/show plans?
Stefán: Now there is Icelandic Airwaves and we are starting to plan next year and hopefully enter a studio.
