AfterBlood is a female fronted metal band with a modern death metal style that meets the thrash metal sound adding atmospheric black metal touches. They have released a debut album entitled "Of Unsound Minds" with new music already a work in progress with shows as well as other plans underway! Frontwomen vocalist Hel Pyre discusses latest debut, new music, and a whole lot more!
1. Can I get a backstory on the band/ band biography? Why did you want this band to be a female fronted as opposed to male fronted?
Hel: AfterBlood were created by me (Hel Pyre) and guitarist/composer Cyan so there wasn’t really a dilemma on who would do the vocals. Soon after Dasno joined the band in bass and after the recording of the debut album, we became a full band with Vector in drums and Stylian as the second guitarist. "Of Unsound Minds" is produced by Waldemar Sorychta (Grip Inc., Enemy of the Sun) and AfterBlood, mixed and mastered by Waldemar Sorychta and sound engineer Dennis Koehne (Lacuna Coil, Moonspell, Tiamat, Samael, etc.). The session drummer for this album is Markus “Makka” Freiwald (Sodom) and there are guest vocal appearances by Tom Angelripper (Sodom) and Antony Hämäläinen (ex-Nightrage, Meridian Dawn) and a guest guitar solo by Waldemar Sorychta.
2. How did you guys come up with your band name? What does this name symbolize and represent for you guys?
Hel: It came up quite spontaneous and very natural actually, in one way it symbolizes a really bad time we left behind, which could be a 'blood era' and secondly it is exactly what it says, that we are bloodthirsty, we are after blood.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Hel: The Greek metal scene is vast and versatile, with many worthy musicians and albums/gems and bands that deserve your attention, like Acid Death, Suicidal Angels and Rotting Christ just to name a few.
4. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?
Hel: We listen to all the prism of metal and we are influenced by a very big number of bands, from classic heavy to extreme, I could not possibly name a few bands and cover it.
5. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?
Hel: All songs vary and each lyrical theme is different, there are social topics, more occult ones, mythological, personal, rebellious ones. Each song has its own identity lyrics wise.
6. Is there any story or concept behind the Of Unsound Minds title?
Hel: The music, the lyrics, the art, all came from quite not so stable and sane personalities and minds.
7. Who did the cover art for “Of Unsound Minds” and how much input did you have on it?
Hel: I've done all the artwork and promotional material for the band, it's something I absolutely enjoy doing, it's my passion after singing.
8. You worked with Waldemar Sorychta and Dennis Koehne, but who produced it? What was it like working with all of these guys let alone, getting to work at the Waldstreet and Denroad Studios?
Hel: The album is a co-production by Waldemar Sorychta and us, mixed by Waldemar Sorychta and mastered by Dennis Koehne. It was an honor working with these guys, they are top notch professionals and they've done an amazing job. It was a great experience.
9. Which would you say is your favorite song on the album and why?
Hel: I know it sounds cliché but I really don't have a favorite one. They are all my favorites, each one has its own story to tell and brings out a different magic.
10. Do you guys have any new music in the works, as far as a follow-up release?
Hel: We are working right now on new songs, not sure yet when the second release will be ready, but it will definitely be something way stronger than the first one.
11. What are your upcoming touring/show plans?
Hel: We don't have any touring plans at the moment but we are definitely working on that.
12. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Hel: Check our official website and online store here:

13. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Hel: I don't know if he has to remember something, all I know is I'd want him to enjoy it and play the album over and over again.
14. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?
Hel: Our first official video clip and in the near future, preparations for a new album and live shows.
15. Any final words of wisdom?
Hel: Music has always something to say, wherever it comes from, just enjoy it, live it and take what it offers.
And remember to always embrace your brutality and be after blood.
