Furious death metal artists Deathcrush have released albums and played shows and have another full-length album coming out soon with even more shows also in the works. Frontman vocalist and bassist Luigi Cara discusses the new album, shows, and insight into who Deathcrush is all about.
1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in DEATHCRUSH? How long the band has been together?
Luigi: Hi nice to meet you, I'm Luigi vocals and bassist of Deathcrush. Our band plays death metal and has been together for 11 years (2003-2014).
2. Tell us the brief history of your band.
Luigi: Deathcrush started in 2003, in a small Sardinian city called Bessude. We started to play small live shows with other Sardinian bands, in 2004 we recorded our first demo CD "Hard Reality". The genre was not only death metal but had influences to black and thrash metal the dominant being death metal. In 2007, we recorded a mini CD called "Extreme Claustrophobic Terror" that consisted 5-tracks all death metal. We played more shows including a mini tour. In 2011, we signed a deal with the UK label Casket Music, Copro Records for our first album then in 2013 our debut full-length "Collective Brain Infection" was released by Casket Music and distributed worldwide by Phd Distribution. After we started touring again in Germany, Austria, and other cities across Italy, Sardinia and others, this is our story.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Luigi: The Sardinian scene is great and there are many bands that I can't write them all because there are just so many.
4. What type of band are you?
Luigi: We are a death metal band with other influences as well.
5. Why did you want to name the band DEATHCRUSH? What does it symbolize and represent for the band?
Luigi: Well the name Deathcrush is associated with the first album by Mayhem. But the real meaning behind it, is death. The type of music is death metal and crush to crush the head and the brain of the listener.
6. Who are your musical influences?
Luigi: Our musical influences are old school death metal like Immolation, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide etc. Just a touch of black and brual death metal as well.
7. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
Luigi: Our lyrics are about the human decadence, fucking church doctrines and typical death metal lyrics, in particular death, decay, demons and anticlerical themes. The cover artwork is a demon that inculcates the malignancy to the victim's brain, a real concept situation of the churches in Italy, in our own metaphoric version and vision.
8. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)
Luigi: The riffs are composed by me and Andrea but when we find ourselves in the rehearsal room we put all of our ideas together then put the song lyrics and title together. Once the song is finished we try to arrange it to the best it can be and it becomes our Deathcrush style.
9. What's new in the recording of your music?
Luigi: We do have new music in the works, our next full-length will be recorded in Sardinia but the mixing and mastering will be done in Italy. Unfortunately I cannot reveal anything else but I assure you it will be an explosion of sounds and total power!
10. What are your dreams and goals?
Luigi: Our dream is to get our music to every corner of the world. Make more touring possible and release our next album in 2014 but I don't know right now.
11. What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
Luigi: It's the music we have made out of souls, sacrifice, anger, and total devotion. We do what we like without too many limitations. Some labels are interested in our next release but we are evaluating the best one's step by step, because our last album was so well received by the zines and the press, we want that to happen all over again with our next one.
12. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Luigi: You can listen to our band on YouTube and buy our stuff on our Bigcartel page.
13. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Luigi: The plans are to record our next full-length album this year then planning a European tour and I hope a world tour, but those are difficult because the music business and money are shit.
14. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Luigi: The music, lyrics, and the sickness and brutality of the melodies in our Deathcrush style.
15. Any final words of wisdom?
Luigi: Thank you soooooo much for this great interview and your great support! We hope to play in the future in your beautiful land. For everyone who is interested in our music and merch you can follow us on Facebook, Reverbnation, and YouTube. Thanks again for your great support!!!!
