Alternative rockers Inherit The Stars have broken onto the scene with a style all their own. This quartet have been making music for a short while but have played shows and continue to create the music that they love. Frontman vocalist Daniel Jeffery discusses the new music and other plans they have lined-up.
1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Inherit The Stars, and how long the band has been together.
Dan: Hi my name's Dan, I'm the frontman from inherit the stars. We have Theo Egginton on lead guitar. Lewis Wild on Bass. Chris Brayshaw on Rythm Guitar. Jordan Rabjohn on Drums. The band has been together since may 2012.
2. Tell us the brief history of your band.
Dan: We all come from different bands in and around Sheffield. Been gigging for about 5 years and we came together through various avenues I.E. friendships bands that didnt work out to form inherit the stars.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Dan: We're based in Sheffield. Lot's of great locals. Big guns obviously, Bring Me The Horizon, While She Sleeps, and some great unsigned acts too. Our good friends in Take The Seven, Elegies and Sweet Little Machine are brilliant. Our music scene is so diverse and so big in sheffield, any night of the week you can catch genuinely great live music.
4. What type of band are you?
Dan: Have a listen and make your own mind up. Generally we get described as metalcore, but there's so much more in there. Pop melody, Cinematic Strings, dance synths. Emo, screamo, metal, post hardcore, pop punk. A blend of everything.
5. Why did you want to name the band Inherit The Stars? What does it symbolize and represent for the band?
Dan: It's an old Sci Fi book from the 70's written by James P Hogan. It's basically about the earth being destroyed and humanity looking to the stars to find a new home. It's all about banding together and taking that next step. That's what the band is, always taking that next step.
6. Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
Dan: Any band that's a bit different from the norm. Fighstar, Chiodos, Enter Shikari, Angels and Airwaves - lots of film and cinema, soundtracks, scores. The Tron Legacy soundtrack by daft punk inspired a lot of our album, as did a great deal of Hanz Zimmers work.
7. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
Dan: Generally, it's affecting change in yourself to shape the world around you. Go and out and grab it. Don't complain about life being hard - just get on with it and make the best and change what you want to change.
8. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)
Dan: Yes. We've never done a cover haha. It's principally Theo (lead guitar) and myself that will write something, and then the two of us will work on it together. From there the rest of the band come with ideas together and then we'll send a full demo to our producer. He'll will make a list of notes/ideas for the song, we'll go away, take the song apart put it back together and that's about it really.
9. You guys will be working on your new EP in the upcoming months. Do you have an idea of what you plan to do, as far as title, album artwork, producer, how many songs, etc.
Dan: It'll be a 5 track EP and we'll be recording it with the same producer we always use, Jim Pinder. Apart from that, I'm not really allowed to say anymore. ;)
10. What's the story being "Ground Zero"?
Dan: Ground Zero is the follow up single to our album We Were Made To Walk The Skies. It's about recognizing a significant moment in your life and it being the starting point for something else. We always felt like the album wasn't quite finished and so we put out ground zero to round everything off.
11. What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
Dan: We're a bunch of guys from Sheffield that love what we do and want to make what we love into our career. We have a pretty fresh sound and I don't many bands are doing what we're doing at the moment. I guess only they'd know the answer to that. Maybe they won't find us interesting. But it'd be awesome if they could spare 2 minutes to check us out.
12. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Dan: You can find us on any reputable download site, Spotify for free and Bandcamp. You can buy our stuff from our website, www.inheritthestars.com and our Bigcartel page.
13. What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
Dan: Well, I'm currently writing this in the studio while we're tracking drums for the new EP. So there's that - and basically just planning for the release and for the summer.
14. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Dan: The thing they'd like to show to their friend the most.
15. Any final words of wisdom?
Dan: Erm, none spring immediately to mind. Thanks for the Interview. ITS
