The "trans-dimensional thrash masters of the multiverse," Shadows of Dawn combines heavy riffs and a technical dual guitar attack accented by strings, synths and brutal percussion. A conglomeration of influences ranging from early thrash metal to modern experimental. A wall of sound meant to stimulate, entice, titillate, and tease every sense, leaving the observer with a welcome addiction, salivating for more. With a wealth of musical history from each performer, Shadows of Dawn brings a wide variety of musical styles together to create a new chapter in the history of heavy metal. The band took sometime to discuss who they are and what they have planned.
1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Shadows Of Dawn, and how long the band has been together.
My name is John Talbot, manager for Shadows of Dawn, and I have compiled this list of responses based on middle of the night drunken phone calls to the band and whatever they said before abruptly hanging up….often after a stream of expletives.
2. Tell us the brief history of your band.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move. However, sometime after the creation of this particular solar system in the Milky Way ( a blink in existence of the cosmic time-scale ), 6 talented musicians formed "Shadows of Dawn" as a means to reverberate their music through the cosmos in an attempt to circumvent the eventual heat-death of the observable universe due to rapid expansion, primarily due to utilization of trans-dimensional travel.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
The band is based out of the Centauri / Sol system on the 14th extended spiral arm of the Milky Way Galaxy....the planet Earth, to be exact. There are a number of great bands from that planet ( as well as from the Northeast United States where some members currently reside ). I would recommend Iratetion, The Doomsday Prophecy, Killed the Fixtion, Thanatotic Desire, Scars of Envy, Ashes of Your Enemy, and Aurin, just to name a few.
4. What type of band are you?
Shadows of Dawn : The Trans-Dimensional Thrash Masters of the Multiverse.
5. Why did you want to name the band Shadows Of Dawn? What does it symbolize and represent for the band?
We painted a dart-board on one of the studio walls and filled it with note cards with band names written on it. After a 9 hour "Hee-Haw" marathon and several shots of a drink called "The Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster," Dan Lassen threw a dart at the wall. It landed on a band name called "The Beatles." When we discovered that there was already a band with that name, Dan said "F**k it, Shadows of Dawn." He was speaking directly to his right shoe, but the rest of the band knew at that moment that it was the perfect choice.
6. Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
Musical Influences : Iron Maiden, In Flames, Mozart, Faith No More, Anthrax, Opeth, Daft Punk, etc.
Non-Musical Influences : Neil Armstrong, Carl Sagan, Banksy, Leonardo Da Vinci, Leonardo the Ninja Turtle, and Stan Lee, and Leonardo they guy who works at the pizzeria around the corner from the studio.
7. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
The eternal balance the individual self must condition themselves to maintain in order to justify the universal observer's own existence both within themselves, and as part of the greater abstract of the world around them, all while fulfilling the basic human need to express a gamut of emotions, as a means to learn and grow as said individuals.
8. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)
All individual parts of songs are thrown into a bracket patter on the "wall of absurd ideas" in the home studio. From there the guitar riff must beat the bass interlude in order to advance to the bridge ( in a brave effort to reduce the guitar riff's magic number lead to 3 above the drum solo ). From there, the winner will advance to the Song Division quasi-finals to play against the vocal melody. So, for instance, if Guitar Riff A beats Guitar Riff B and Bass Riff A beats Bass Riff B in the Rhythm Riffs Division East Northern, then Drum Fill A has a chance at contention to being joined with Guitar Riff A and Bass Riff A for the semi-finals.....Unless, of course, Guitar Riff C can upset Bass Riff A, and Bass Riff B ties with Drum Pattern B, then Guitar Riff A would square off against Bass Riff B in a musical blind choice round robin. If no clear song has emerged from the amalgamation of the tournament results, then alternating two-man sack races are held on consecutive Sundays until a musical section is written.
9. Have any new music coming out?
Shadows of Dawn currently has their next single being mixed and mastered at Soundwars Studios in Hoboken NJ ( home of Ill Nino ). The new single, “The Fall” will be released digitally in the spring of 2014 with an official music video to follow.
10. What are your dreams and goals?
On April 7th, 2018, Shadows of Dawn's first officially released lyric video will reach Proxima Centauri. We're hoping someone from that area will send us a "thank you" or at least like us on Facebook.
11. What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
Shadows of Dawn combines heavy riffs and a technical dual guitar attack accented by strings, synths and brutal percussion. A conglomeration of influences ranging from early thrash metal to modern experimental. A wall of sound meant to stimulate, entice, titillate, and tease every sense, leaving the observer with a welcome addiction, salivating for more. They are the "Trans-Dimensional Thrash Masters of the Multiverse."
12. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
iTunes, Google Music, XBox Music Live, Rhapsody, Amazon, Spotify, iHeartRadio, and most music distribution sources and internet radio. The music is also available through the band's website at http://shadowsofdawn.info and is currently awaiting publication on Pandora.
13. What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
"Live from the surface of Europa, it's Shadows of Dawn".
14. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
That this is the greatest band in 10 dimensions of existence.
15. Any final words of wisdom?
Great men are forged in fire.....it is the privilege of lesser men to light the flame.
