Ashestoangels' Crilly says New Music in the Works as well as Shows

Synth goth punks Ashestoangels have released material, played shows and toured relentlessly. Now they have another release to get out with even further touring and showcasing to commence. Vocalist/synths Crilly discussed the new album, shows, and plans.

1. How did you guys come up with your band name?

Crilly: It's a David Bowie reference.  We toyed with the idea of going with Ashes To Ashes but in the end Ashestoangels felt right.

2. What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?

Crilly: We have released 2 albums and a bunch of EPs.  To be honest nobody really noticed until the last album came out. That one seemed to do pretty well, and the Chases EP that we put out as a stop gap went great.

3. Who writes the songs, what are they about?

Crilly: I write the songs, but I don't tell people what they are about I'm afraid, that's personal to me, and also to the listener, I would hate to take away from what a song means to someone with my silly opinion about it!
4. What's new in the recording of your music?

Crilly: We just recorded a new album. Working out the plans to put that out at the moment.

5. Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?

Crilly: We play live constantly, in the past year an a half we racked up over 150 shows.  This year should be more haha.

6. How do you promote your band and shows?

Crilly: The old school way. By getting out and playing. Making those connections.

7. Describe your show, visual and musically.

Crilly: An unstoppable goth punk explosion.

8. What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?

Crilly: Good question. For a long time we couldn't get anybody to even acknowledge that we existed.  I would send 500 e-mails a day to different venues and get no response.  So we decided just to do the whole thing ourselves. Now if anybody approaches us wanting to work together, we are in a position to decide if we want to do it or not.  To me the most important thing is being out playing shows.  I don't worry about labels or promoters very much, we are doing great on our own.

9. You have a video for the song "Wintervention" can you tell me about the video's concept and the song itself.

Crilly: The video was a lot of fun to shoot.  We did a concept video before, but our guitar player left after filming so we had to loose a lot of footage, which really messed with the story, so it was nice to be able to do it.  I can't really talk about the concept without ruining the video for anyone who hasn't seen it.

10. What are your dreams and goals?

Crilly: To keep doing what we are doing.  But more!  I just did some U.S. shows which was amazing.  Looking to get back there with the whole band ASAP.

11. What advice would you give to fellow bands?

Crilly: Get a tuning pedal, practice as much as you can and don't wait for chances, because they will never come.  Go and get what you want.

12. What plans do you have for the near future as a band?

Crilly: Going to put out the first single from this album, then we have a giant UK/Ireland/France tour with William Control in August.

13. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Crilly: We are on all the music services, or search Ashestoangels on YouTube.  Lots of stuff on there!  Then everything is available from ashestoangels.bigcartel.com.

14. What inspires you to do what you do?

Everything I think.  I just love it.  Thank you!
