Dreamshades' Kevin's Gift Of Life

Modern melodic metalheads Dreamshade began in 2006, a couple of years later they released their debut EP going on to play shows and release further material with even more showcases, touring across various places with even more material. Now the band is in the process of working on a new release with further plans of shows and touring and much more at their fingertips! Frontman vocalist Kevin Cali discusses the new materia, previous material, with everything else in-between.

1. What type of band are you?

Kevin: We are the kind of guys you can find everywhere, we are very simple people, we love life, we love to spend time with family and friends and between us there’s great union. We don’t like to hide us behind any image and with our music we try to convey what we are. I think it's the simplest explanation for defining Dreamshade.

2. Tell us the brief history of your band.

Kevin: Dreamshade was born in 2006 and 2 years later they released their debut EP “To The Edge Of Reality” and played at some of the most  prestigious Euro festival. I wasn't with the band during those years, but I can remember that thanks to the MetalCamp gigs they've found the right contacts and then they signed to Spinefarm Records / Universal Music. For sure all this gave us a good worldwide exposure. We continue to work hard every day to get the best results and we want to continue our journey with the utmost commitment.

3. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Kevin: Our songs are about everyday life, these are inspired by personal experiences or others. I think it’s the most genuine way to get to the heart of people, many fans are reflected in our stories and it is a great satisfaction for us because it means that we have touched the right arguments. I couldn't even imagine writing in another way! The experiences we have lived in our skin that touch us deeply are a point of relief. With music we can pull out all these emotions, both positive and negative! I think people want to hear about real stories, they want to live and breathe the lyrics to the song and I am sure that we will continue in this direction which is becoming part of us.

4. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

Kevin: Usually the instrumental parts are machined from Fella while Rocco gives great help for all the details and arrangements. Once the structure of the song is complete and recorded, Fella and I work with the vocals and the lyrics rhythms. During the period of pre-production, we have the time to listen to the whole song several times and to get an overall idea. When every member of the band has had the opportunity to work individually on the song, we are finally all set to discuss possible changes and final arrangements. The fact that each of us can express his own ideas  makes the final result unique and personal.

5. Who are your musical influences?

Kevin: We are open to any kind of music and discovering new sounds intrigues me a lot. I'm glad to have no limits and have no problem with it. The search for new musical styles is a way to go beyond the usual standard and make your own sound fresh and innovative! Music is all around us and we have to embrace it all!

6. Tell me about the album, "The Gift Of Life".

Kevin:  "The Gift of Life" is simply a hymn, an invitation for everyone to take full advantage of every moment we spend alone or with the people we love, because life is too short to live in fear and hatred. Unfortunately many of us haven’t had and don’t have the good fortune to enjoy this gift that has been given to us, so let's take advantage of every moment, living it to the fullest!

7. Do you guys have any new music in the works?

Kevin: We’re working on a new album ;) so stay tuned!

8. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Kevin: You can listen to our music on Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, Last FM… To buy an album just go to one of the Major music stores near you and you should find it there. If you want to buy our merchandise and stuff, you can always come to our show ;) you’re always welcome! Ok I know, unfortunately we can’t reach all the countries so soon, but we're working on it! So, while waiting take a look at our online shop www.dreamshade.ch/shop  to get the T-Shirt you like the most.

9. What plans do you have for the near future as a band?

Kevin: There is going to be a lot of interesting news that may be released in the coming weeks and months. Just keep following us on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/dreamshadeband and stay updated about all our next moves ;). As I said before, we are now working on a new album and we would like to focus on that.

10. You guys have toured and made your first U.S. appearance to the U.S.A. in 2013. What were your expectations for this and what did you hope to accomplish by coming over?

Kevin: Well, the U.S. tour was amazing, not only because we were able to bring our music overseas, but also because we were able to play in the historic club Whisky A Go Go in L.A.! Initially I didn't know what to expect from this new experience. I remember I was pretty excited to go, because we were about to face a two-week tour in a country which was almost unknown to us. I will always carry in my heart the memory of all those guys who were there for us ... They gave us a warm welcome and I want to thank them for the good times we had together!

11. Anything else you'd like to say or add?

Kevin: I would like to thank all of you for the time you have dedicated to us, all the readers and our supporters. We hope to see you soon on tour guys and party hard together! In the meantime, you can follow us on Facebook, Twitter (@Dreamshade) and instagram (@dreamshade_band) Love you! Cheers. ;)
