Scars of Tomorrow's Bob Talks About the Latest Release and the Future Ahead

Emerged from the depths of Southern California’s now notorious metal-core scene like a bat out of hell. Scars of Tomorrow have left their mark on the scene. Scars of Tomorrow have put out 5 full length releases on Thorp Records and Victory Records and plan on putting out a new release soon. Guitarist Bob Bradley discusses the band's past, present, and future activity.

1. What type of band are you?

Bob: Scars of Tomorrow is a metalcore band. The term has been around for a while and even though a lot of our riffs are Hard Rock influenced our roots are in metal and late 90’s Hardcore.

2. Tell us the brief history of your band.

Bob: We formed in 2000 in Orange County, CA and started making records in 2001. We released 2 albums on Thorp Records, 3 on Victory, a couple independently and our latest album “Failed Transmissions” just dropped via Artery Recordings.

3. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Bob: I don’t write our lyrics but Mike has described many of our songs as being about empowerment, relationships, going through hard times and bettering yourself as a person. There typically hasn't been any cursing in our music and most of the lyrics are overall positive and relatable.

4. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

Bob: Yes, we write all our music as a group and have collaborated with guest vocalists in the past as well.

5. Who are your musical influences?

Bob: In the beginning I would say bands like Darkest Hour, Hatebreed, Deftones and Blindside were some of our biggest influences. As time went on bands like Slipknot and other more modern metal bands have rubbed off on us. We like to stay true to our metal/melodic sound but evolve as times change.

6. Tell me as to why you decided to get the band back together and why not and not sooner?

Bob: We always kept in touch as friends and realized the time was right to get together and play some music again. We had the opportunity to record some music and play Metalfest a couple months ago, it’s been a green light on playing shows ever since.

7. How many songs have you written for your next release?

Bob: We just released our latest album “Failed Transmissions” in June via Artery and have about 15-20 demos as a band for potential future albums/EPs.

8. Will you be releasing your next album via crowd funding or DIY or turning to another label source?

Bob: For anything in the future we will likely go through Artery or just release it on our own through Tunecore/CD Baby.

9. Do you have an idea as to what that album will feature like a title, the album artwork, how many songs, what the single will be, whether or not a concept will fit etc.

Bob: We haven’t thought about anything concept wise for the next album, but we will let you know when we do!

10. What are the upcoming touring and show plans for you guys?

Bob: We just wrapped up a West Coast tour with Bleeding Through, Winds Of Plague and Lionheart. We haven’t booked any upcoming shows but should have some news soon.

11. What advice would you give to people who would like to do what you're doing?

Bob: Start local, make great music and be sure to network like crazy. Make friends with other bands and be good to your fans early on.

12. How did the get band the name, Scars of Tomorrow? What are the "scars" you are referring too?

Bob: I didn't name the band, but I’m pretty sure we were throwing around band names in our friends living room until something sounded good. If I’m not mistaken our old guitarist Geoff came up with the name and we ran with it.

13. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Bob: Check out our music on Soundcloud, YouTube, iTunes or Spotify. You can find our albums pretty much anywhere online.

14. What plans do you have for the near future as a band?

Bob: We are going with the flow as a band, most of us have careers in music full-time and will take opportunities as they make sense. We won’t be touring full time at all, but we hope to play festivals and do some regional runs with our friends.

15. Any last words you'd like to disclose?

Bob: Thanks for the interview Natalie, keep up the great work with the site!
