For twin brothers Logan and Roger Raskin they knew after inheriting their melodious genes from their parents that they had something and it was music from here on out. The Raskins have been doing their thing as just a duo for quite sometime now and will continue to dominate the music scene with their music, show playing, touring all over, with much more just within their reach it's uncanny as to how far they will end up or go. One of the brothers Logan Raskin took the time to talk about the band's presents, music, and touring ahead.
1. What type of band are you?
Logan: We are a rock n roll band form New York City. Our style has a bit of Pop/Punk/Retro/ and Alternative in there as well. If you love high energy mixed with harmonies and great melodies, than The Raskins are the band for you.
2. Tell us the brief history of your band.
Logan: We have been together for about 3 years. The Raskins started off as a writing project. Both Roger and I (Logan) were writing music for TV and Film for several years. We received huge amounts of fan email from all over the world requesting where they could buy our music and when they could see us play live. We felt it was just time for us to put this project up on its feet as a physical band, record a new album and start touring.
3. Why do you think music was the outlet for you as a person?
Logan: Roger and I (Logan) grew up in a very musical family. Our father was a big musical Broadway star and mother a jazz singer in New York City. They were very influential in our careers. Teaching us how to play musical instruments at a very young age. We were composing our own music by the age of 10.
4. Do you think being from California influences your sound?
Logan: Well Roger and i are from Chelsea New York City. Growing up in that area had a huge impact on our sound and style for sure. The music club scene was incredible along with the amount and quality of musicians and bands you would see in these clubs on any given night. Artists and bands such as The Stoogies, The Ramones, The Plasmatics, The Velvet Undergound, Joan Jett, The New York Dolls, and Blondie just to name a few... The rest of the band that surrounds Roger and myself are all from Hollywood Ca. We recorded a lot of our record as well as shot some of the music videos in Hollywood as well.
5. What ís the origin of the bands name?
Logan: While writing music for TV and film, all the music supervisors would address us as The Raskins because being identical twins they couldn't tell who was who. When it came time to put this project and band together we felt that lets just keep the same name they have been addressing us by which happens to be our last name The Raskins. Just made the most sense to us...
6. Who are your musical influences?
Logan: Definitely our influences are derived from our surroundings growing up in Chelsea NYC with bands such as The Talking Heads, Living Color, The Ramones, Blondie, The Stoogies, The NY Dolls, Patti Smith, Simon and Garfunkel, Steely Dan etc.
7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)
Logan: We write all our own music. We have been composing music since the ripe ole age of 10. Composing music is a love of ours we have had our whole life. We built a recording studio in our home so we could record our musical ideas at any given moment. For this debut album we recorded approximately 60 demos where 12 of those ended up on the album. For us it very fulfilling to be able to express ourselves through music. This album we used as an opportunity to express our trials and tribulations growing up and adventures through the music industry. You definitely get a sense of who we are and where we come from by listening to our new album.
8. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
Logan: We love to write about our experiences growing up in New York City as well as our trials and tribulations in and out of the music industry. We have met a ton of very interesting people along the way and developed some interesting relationships as well, which seems to be a favorite topic of ours
9. Tell me about your album "We Had It All ".
Logan: Well the album is a self titled debut "The Raskins" and the first single we decided to release of the album is a track titled "We Had It All". We decided to go with this single because of its content and energy. The song is written about our journey through the music industry, singing about the trials and tribulations of that journey with all the ups and downs etc. The high tempo straight for rock melody ripping through this particular track we felt was the perfect choice to represent us and give people an idea of who we are and what our sound is like.
10. Why did you guys want to be a duo act instead of a full fledged act?
Logan: We actually are a band but felt that it was important for us to have a strong foundation which starts with Roger and myself (Logan). We know that a least with the 2 of us there would me more of a chance for longevity, marketing, and success at this stage in our lives and musical careers. Being identical twin brothers that can sing and perform together would peek the interest of the public a bit more and would give us the opportunity of getting our music out to the masses.
11 What are your upcoming plans for this year?
Logan: We will be on tour with Motley Crue and Alice Cooper through Thanksgiving. Then there are some other touring possibilities coming up for us. going out with bands such as Blondie, The Cult, Joan Jett, Red Hot Chili-Peppers, HIM (in Dec) and ACDC 2015..Then we are looking to head over to Europe Sept 2015. Can't wait!
12. What do you hope for in 2014?
Logan: Well for us the main goal is to expose us a get our music out to as many people as possible. We plan to tour as much as humanly possible as well as doing as much live Radio and TV as we can fit into our busy schedule. The fans are the most important thing for us and the true reason we exist. Want to give them all the opportunity to experience The Raskins live as well as meet us. 2014 is off to an incredible start. Lets hope we can keep the musical train moving forward..
