Daylight's Wojtek Gives Just One More Fight
DAYLIGHT is a Pop-Punk band from Barcelona (Spain) composed by the twin brother vocalists Olek Burek (Bass) & Wojtek Burek (Guitar), Victor Vera (Drums) and Albert Domenech (Lead Guitar). Established in 2004, this hardworking band, kicks hard from their hometown to the world with catchy melodies and punchy sound. After a year of silence they have returned with a new release, touring and show plans, and a bright future. Guitarist Wojtek Burek gives the rundown of the band's new album, playing, and more.
1. What type of band are you?
Wojtek: Daylight is a Pop-Punk band from Barcelona formed by 4 friends. Unsigned, always touring and hardworking.
2. Tell us the brief history of your band.
Wojtek: We started doing some noise after school when we were 15. We didn't really know what we were doing, but we loved that, rather than do usual things. After some shows, we entered Studio and our life changed. We started playing shows, releasing our first album, and touring our country, Spain.
With the second album, things went better and better, we started having fans all over the glove, and touring a lot. Now we’re releasing our 3rd record.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Wojtek: We’re from Southern Europe, from a small city called Barcelona. In here, we have a strong scene, with loads of great bands like Puk2, Marvin or NoWayOut. Rock music is not mainstream here. That’s why we aim at the rest of the world.
4. What is the story behind the name, Daylight, if there is one to tell?
Wojtek: It’s hard to tell, it came all after the crazy summer of 2004 when we kept awake until the Daylight. So you can imagine.
5. Who are your musical influences?
Wojtek: Every band member has his own influences, from classic rock, going through metal and ending in alternative rock. We’re really open minded, and like to listen to a lot of stuff.
6. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
Wojtek: Mostly we talk about our live experiences, about friendship, about dreams, and some crazy situations that happen while on tour! We try to be a sincere band with our lyrics and skip stereotypes.
7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)
Wojtek: Absolutely! With Olek we work on the ideas at home, and bring them to the rehearsal room, where we put everything together. We discuss the ideas with the rest of the band, and make them grow. We always do the music first, then the lyrics. We love catchy stuff!
8. You have your new release "One More Fight", what can people expect from it?
Wojtek: After 2Cool4School our last singer had to leave due to a life priority change. So Olek & Wojtek took over the vocal control. People will notice the difference. We worked really hard on it, writing a lot of songs, half of them trashed during the process and keeping only the great songs. This is the best Daylight album so far!
9. If you had to pick one song off the new release, to show someone to introduce them to your music, which would you pick?
Wojtek: Maybe I would make people listen to “Consequences” and then to “Now or Never”, both songs describe perfectly the band. But we rather recommend a whole spin. It’s a 10 song LP!
10. How does it feel to have yet another release under your belts and added to the Daylight name?
Wojtek: It’s always exiting to have something new, fans already listened to the first single and feedback is been mental! Almost 1 year writing the songs and finally everything will see the “Daylight”. Can’t wait to play the album live.
11. Why did you see "Consequences" to be the fitting single and video of choice?
Wojtek: That song is damn Catchy. We knew from the beginning that it was the best choice for music video and single. It proves that the band has changed but sticking to our roots.
12. Did you guys have any leftovers from this release that will be used for future releases or have you gone forth and written material for future purposes?
Wojtek: There are some songs that didn't make it to the record, it’s part of the selective process. Old is old, we never use old ideas to fit into new records. There’s always something new and far more exiting.
13. What are the plans for upcoming shows and touring if anything?
Wojtek: We’re making a release party in Barcelona on 14th November, so after that, we’re touring Spain, Europe, Russia, and going back to Asia before summer. This year is going to be tight.
14. What do you guys have planned for the unforeseen future?
Wojtek: Touring is our life, so I think we’ll be setting a lot of shows in countries we've never been. And soon start to write new stuff.
15. Anything else you'd like to add or would want to say?
Wojtek: Well thanks to Natalie for the interview, and hope all Readers give a spin to our new record: “ONE MORE FIGHT” You won’t regret it.
