Gypsy Flight's Adam says They're a Hard Edged Rock Act with a Modern Twist
You can't get more original than hard rockers Gypsy Flight! These guys come from the San Francisco Bay Area up in Northern California. They tend to blend hard rock, rock n' roll with an edgy twist of rhythms with melodic vocal lines, that truly delivers the music with a modern day attitude approach. They have released a debut album and have plans to release the sophomore album soon with touring and showcasing to happen soon as well! Bassist Adam Alvarez's discusses some history on the band and the future plans of releasing new music and more!
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Adam: Gypsy Flight came into existence in November of 2012 when members of X-Ray Conspiracy regrouped and added females into the line-up. X-Ray Conspiracy had previously released two tracks with vocalist Shawna Sommers which immediately received radio airplay on 107.7 The Bone, San Francisco’s premier Rock Radio Station. Once a solid line-up was in place, Gypsy Flight went into the studio and recorded six additional tracks to complete their album “Gypsy Flight” which was released in May of 2013. Gypsy Flight is currently Shawna Sommers – Vocals, Adam Alvarez – Bass/Vocals, Nick Campbell – Lead Guitar and Karen Alvarez – Rhythm Guitar. Gypsy Flight is currently as of this interview auditioning drummers for a permanent position.
2. Why did you pick the name that you did for your band?
Adam: The name Gypsy Flight seem to fit once we included females into our mix. We have been called Hippy Rock in the local circuit we play in here in the San Francisco Bay Area and we are just always on the move like a band of gypsies.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there?
Adam: As mentioned earlier, we are from the San Francisco Bay Area, but we are branching out throughout California, Nevada and will soon in 2015 branch out at least into the western region of the United States.
4. How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Adam: Gypsy Flight music is comparable to 70’s & 80’s Hard Rock. International Rockers Y&T are from our area and definitely had influence on us but so does the more modern Halestorm out of Pennsylvania. We are a hard edged Rock Band with a modern sound.
5. What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
Adam: Our self titled debut album “Gypsy Flight” is our only release currently. We're currently in the studio working on our sophomore release. We don’t have a name for the new album yet, however we anticipate a kick ass album as we have been maturing as a band and our producer Tim Narducci (Spiral Arms, Systematic), will have a significant influence on the end product.
6. Do you play live as well? What do you have planned in terms of shows and touring, if any?
Adam: Yes Gypsy Flight performs live and plans on exploring other markets in the western United States in 2015. We do not have dates as of yet, but we are mapping out our schedules and investigating the markets that will appreciate and support a show we schedule in an area other then where we call home.
7. What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
Adam: The music moguls in the industry should be interested in Gypsy Flight because of our marketability as well as the effort we put in as a band to promote our brand. We don’t just sit around waiting to be discovered. Gypsy Flight is on a grass roots campaign to gain interest here and abroad, in the music industry as well as in the genre fan base that is out there willing to discover new music.
8. What plans do you have for the near future as a band?
Adam: Recording, performances, regional touring is what we are planning at the moment, that and finding our permanent drummer.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Adam: You may listen to Gypsy Flight on ReverbNation http://www.reverbnation.com/gypsyflight and our CD’s and other merchandise may be purchased at our shows as well as on-line at: http://www.gypsyflight.com.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Adam: We’d like first time listeners to realize that our songs are actually stories that they may be able to relate to because it’s something they may have actually experienced in their own lives.
