Void Creation Insist that 1984 is the Track for Them and Me

Thrash death metallers Void Creation have already given a glimpse of what was written and recorded upon "Deadnology" with the track "1984". While being busy writing and recording for this follow-up to their debut EP, it will all pay off dearly. Due to the band having loads of plans on playing shows, touring, and writing even more tunes for more material. The band took some time to discuss this release and those plans.

1. What type of band are you?

We are 5 different characters which unites the passion for metal music. Finally we play Death/Thrash Metal influenced by old school and modern metal.

2. Tell us the brief history of your band.

Void Creation was founded in Vienna in 2006 by ex-members of Diabolica and Saviour. The former Seeds of Sorrow shouter completes the active Line-up in 2008. An absolute highlight for the band was the Wacken Open Air appearance in 2010 and our first record “Mind Control” from 2011. Void Creation now is an inherent part of the Austrian metal scene.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Our origins are in the Viennese underground scene, which is very alive. There are lots of venues where you can play and more Bands than you can name. So on the other side there is also a lot of competition. In Austria there are many great bands and a lot of these great bands we consider our friends. So if you wanna listen to some heavy shit, check out Catastrofear, Prometheus, Scarecrow N.W.A., Mastic Scum, Parental Advisory, Misanthropic Might, Pungent Stench, Days Of Loss, Harmanic, Horns Of Hattin, Vargsrikret, Black Inhale and many more.

4. What is the story behind the name, VOID CREATION, if there is one to tell?

This oxymoron combines the contradictory terms from the process of creation and the meaningless of the void which gives an idea of the existence and the actions of today's mankind.

5. Who are your musical influences?

Good Question. Wouldn't the cavemen have been pounding their drums with bone sticks we probably wouldn't be making music nowadays. So you can say we are influenced by them.   But to be more precise: It’s hard to name specific genres or bands, but you can hear old school thrash as well as you can hear modern death metal or grindcore. Some people have been spreading rumors, that they heard an occasional slayer riff here and there in our music. Of Course, we deny that.

6. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Most of the lyrics deal in a critical way with the shit whats going on in society or the human brain. Surveillance, destruction of our environment, mass slaughter, inner strife. But to not get depressive, we also have a few nicer songs about getting inked or playing live.

7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

Yes, all songs are written by us. The songwriting process is quite collaborative. If one person comes with an idea we try to work it out together. Of course this coin has two sides. Sometimes finishing one song takes longer, but on the other hand everyone has the same feeling about the songs.

8. You have your new release "Deadnology" what can people expect from it?

Those who have listened to our first album “Mind Control” can expect “Deadnology” not only to be faster and more brutal, but also to be more complex in the songwriting area. The years between the two albums were very important for us to define our style, to grow as a band and to bring our songwriting to a higher level. This we hope one can hear when comparing both albums. So, people can expect a hard Death Metal album with varied songs which leads to hurting necks including one little surprise.

9. If you had to pick one song off the new release, to show someone to introduce them to your music, which would you pick?

1984.

10. How does it feel to have yet another release under your belts and added to the VOID CREATION name?

It feels extremely good to put all the experience and the hard work oft he past years in this album. It shows that we've grown since “Mind Control”.

11. Why did you see "1984" as an opening track for everyone to hear first hand off "Deadnology"?

One reason is, that the topic of 1984 is more present than ever before. Another reason ist that it’s one of the fastest and diverse songs which prepares the listener for the rest of Deadnology.

12. Did you guys have any leftovers from this release that will be used for future releases or have you gone forth and already written material for future purposes?

Currently  we have three songs which could also fit on this album, but didn't make it in time to get recorded. And also we are writing on new material.

13. How about shows and touring, what plans do you have for those events?

We are now promoting our album. The CD release show is on 11th of April in Vienna with Entrails. To perform on a festival this year would be great, but it’s nothing planned yet.

14. What else do you guys have planned for this year?

Write new songs, try to play as much as possible and have a great time with our fans.

15. Anything else you'd like to add or would want to say?

Thank you fort he interview. Listen hard to our music and bang your head to this shit. Looking forward to see you on one of our shows.
