Anewrage's Daring Duo Axel and Ale Talks Shows and Music
Kick starting things in 2009 as an alternative metal band, Anewrage has cranked out an original cut of tunes combining alternative metal, rock, and post-grunge with an incredible live set to go with it! Besides the obvious though these guys have also punched out some tunes of course, releasing material including their latest "ANR". Frontman vocalist/guitarist Axel Capurro and Alessandro Ferrarese on drums/backing vocals discusses
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Hi guys and thanks for this interview! We know each other since we were very young and back then we weren't into playing music as a band. We've been always listening to music and finally in 2007, at the age of 15, we decided to play music together just for fun and we understood that we were able to write and play our own stuff instead of just cover songs.
So after a couple of years of playing and writing we got to know our bassist Sime and the magic happened: we started this project and from that moment on we've never changed line-up. That’s why we consider this band a family. We recorded a demo CD and than we tried to play live as much as we could.
In the following years we shared the stage with a lot of Italian underground bands like Destrage, Forgotten Tears and Sawthis as well as international acts like Gama Bomb (Metal Disorder Festival 2010) and UFO.
In 2013 we released “Dripping” EP and we signed our first contract with a booking agency; so we started working in a more professional way and this put us in the condition to think about the first important step for this band: the first full-length album. “ANR” (released on November 2014 via Sliptrick Records) is our first full length album and it sums up all the musical and personal experiences we shared in these years.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
The band’s name is something that describes what we want to achieve and communicate with our music: we search ourselves, always looking for something new but a the same time we love the powerful tunes that remind us what we learned from late 90’s/ 2000’s alternative music. One day our guitarist and our singer came up with the idea of ANEWRAGE and we all felt it was the right one, without even discussing about it.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We come from Milan’s periphery in Italy and starting from our personal experience we can say that the scene here is pretty chaotic. There are a lot of bands, a lot of venues and the range of possibilities is quite large if you don’t ask too much to step on a stage, but it’s very hard if you start working in a more professional way and you need a payback for your work. We can surely recommend you all to listen to Destrage, Rhyme, Mellowtoy and About Wayne (from Rome). There are plenty of other good bands but they struggle a lot to be noticed.
4. How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
We really hate this kind of questions, because we really don’t know how to answer! I just can say that we don’t like to put limits to our music and we just try to play and write stuff that we can be proud of. There are a lot of bands and artists we used to listen to that probably influenced our music: the list would be very long! For sure we all have influences from ‘90s and 2000 music but we listen to everything we like from Lamb Of God to Katy Perry!
5. What's your take on "ANR" as a whole?
I think we really made the first album that we wanted to make. It’s exactly the way Anewrage is right now, and we’re really happy about it. The songs relate to our life and the band’s experience, so the hard part of the work was to match a piece of each one of us in this puzzle as a whole, trying not to be pointless or incoherent with the band itself, and I think we've made it.
6. What's your favorite song on "ANR" right now?
My favorite song on “ANR is always changing! We all have been deep inside the writing process, and when you get out of that, you really can’t see the difference between a song or another. I think that right now my favorite one is “Still-Don’t-Know” because of its meaning and its atmosphere.
This song talks about one of the darkest periods of my life, so when I listen to it, or when I play it live, it forces me to explore places I wouldn't necessarily go to, pushing me to face everything with fresh mind.
7. Can you tell us about your next set of shows/tours and why we should be there?
Well, we’re playing a lot of shows in Italy right now to support “ANR” in our country. We’re going to play one only show outside of Italy: we’ll be heading to Switzerland with our mates Dreamshade on April 18th. This is the complete list of our next shows:
04/03 - ROCK'N'ROLL ARENA - Romagnano Sesia (NO) , Italy w/ Temperance
(Presale Link: http://www.mailticket.it/evento/4657)
04/05 - Circolo Colony - Brescia (BS) , Italy w/ Rebeldevil
04/11 - Black Hole Club - Milano, Italy

07/18 - BERGAMO, Italy – TBA
We’re working very hard to bring our debut album wherever we can, so I really hope to make some tours outside of Italy very soon: maybe Europe or USA, who knows. You should come see us because we put every drop of ourselves in this band, trying to push it as far as we can and when we play live we can really give meaning to the whole process giving 100% fiscally and mentally.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We've just released an unplugged version of “Red Wet Lips” (track from “ANR”) with a cool live studio video (thanks RecLab Studios). So check our official YouTube channel out to see it.
We’re trying to play as much as possible right now, so we really hope to play live the whole year.
Meanwhile we’re throwing each other some ideas, but nothing is really ready now. So we’ll keep working on it.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Really happy to answer… everywhere! You can find the entire album “ANR” on Spotify for free streaming! You can also buy it on iTunes, Amazon.com and BigCartel. 10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
The energy. I’m really proud of what I listen to when I put our album on, because I really feel the energy we all put in this record. I can feel and almost touch all the emotions we wanted to put into it: the rage, the sadness, the happiness, the sickness… It’s a honest album, made by honest people for honest listeners! And I really hope you will enjoy it, spread the word and follow us! Cheers!
