MADYX Talks Of MADYX
Alternative pop artist Madyx is the brainchild of singer/songwriter/guitarist Michelle Blachard. Madyx blends together Pink, Katy Perry, with a diverse uniqueness to her musical approach and style, crafting together a musical blend that works and works well. So much so that her debut EP "Worth The Risk" has launched her as an up-and-coming artist for all to see! Madyx herself discusses her style, music, and future plans!
1. What type of artist are you?
Madyx: When people hear the name MADYX I want them to think new age pop with a rock edge; which I like to call the "Next Wave". Staying true to myself as a guitar player and rocker back in the day I had to keep that rock element to my music. Despite the fact that I was born in the 90's, I'm very much an 80's child at heart and my music and style definitely reflect that.
2. Why did you want to go solo when you have your other project Life Down Here?
Madyx: Life Down Here will always be part of me and my journey in the music world, but as I got older my style in music changed and the way I was writing and the things I was writing about changed. I didn't want to change LDH for what it was and decided to start a new project.
3. Where does a name like MADYX mean and how did it come into the picture?
Madyx: Well, funny story actually… MADYX literally came to me in my sleep. After trying to come up with a name for a few months, I randomly woke up in the middle of the night one night and the word MADYX popped in my head. I typed MADYX in a notepad on my phone and when I woke up that next morning I was like, "what the hell is a MADYX?" After looking up what MADYX meant spelled exactly as it is; the definition fit me to the "T" and I thought it must be a sign that I need to roll with that as my name.
4. What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
Madyx: "Worth The Risk", the first MADYX EP, was just released in June on iTunes, Spotify, Pandora and across a bunch of other varies online steaming platforms. So far there's been a lot of positive feedback from fans and the single has been featured on some big Spotify playlists, radio mix shows and some placements in TV/film in the works.
5. Do you play live as well? What do you have planned in terms of shows and touring, if any?
Madyx: Of course we play live, over this past summer we've played quite a few local shows in the LA and OC area. As far as touring goes, we were on a So Cal HS tour that we started at the end of last year's school year and it went so well that we've decided to start all over and play as many high schools in the So Cal area as possible this year.
6. What should labels/zines/promoters know about you? Why should they be interested?
Madyx: MADYX isn't just a personality, cool name and some new "next wave" music; it's me being me and sharing my experiences with the world in order to help out that next person. I want MADYX to impact the world as more of a movement than a trend.
7. What plans do you have for the near future?
Madyx: Right now, I am actually returning from my first of many trips to the UK for writing session. There's been quite a lot of interest in London and the surrounding areas that I will be returning there very shortly. But for now, MADYX will continue to play local shows including the HS tour that I mentioned; writing new material and continue to spread the MADYX love.
8. Where can we listen to your music and where can we buy your stuff?
Madyx: "Worth the Risk" can be purchased on iTunes, Amazon and we sell CD's at shows. We are also available on Spotify, Pandora and SoundCloud (www.soundcloud.com/madyxxmusic). Social media is also a big part of what I'm all about to stay connected with my fans on a daily basis, so please feel free to follow us:

9. How does MADYX and Life Down Here compare and differ from one another?
Madyx: As far as the overall sound goes, they are vastly different. Life Down Here was more of the Warped Tour vibe which is was I was listening to when I was a teenager when I started LDH and MADYX is more of a pop/rock/alt/urban vibe. I've mixed ALL my favorite genres into one to create something different and unique. As far as the message and the writing goes, they are pretty much sending out the same message; I write from personal experiences, in hopes to help out another person as it helped me when I was writing it.
10. Will we ever see MADYX and Life Down Here do a show or tour together?
Madyx: As fun as that does sound, I don't see that happening anytime soon but I wouldn't be opposed to maybe having a MADYX/LDH show at some point in the future.
11. Which song would you recommend for someone who has never heard you before, to check out so they can get an idea of what you sound like?
Madyx: If you've never heard MADYX I would recommend checking out "Some Kisses" and "Only Human" of the EP "Worth the Risk" on iTunes, Spotify or any of the other online streaming platforms. If you are more of a dance person and are into remixes, we have a few remixes of our single "Some Kisses" done by some pretty well known DJ's out of South Africa and the UK which can be found on our SoundCloud page (www.soundcloud.com/madyxxmusic).
12. Do you write your own music? What are your songs about?
Madyx: Since the day I started playing music, I started writing my own songs. Back when I was 8, I may not have much to say lyric or melody wise but even back then I was writing my own chord progressions and little guitar riffs. All the songs I perform now I take a part in the creative side; writing lyrics is where I truly feel I get the chance to connect with my fans so I write only from the heart and about things that truly matter to me and my experience in life.
13. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Madyx: The thing I hope that stands out in listening to MADYX is the raw, authentic emotion that gets put into every songs; down to the lyrics, the melody and even the production. I have a vision and a message and I hope that it comes across that way in everything I put out as an artist. I want MADYX to be a movement, not just a cool trend.
