Martina Edoff Lives Life Through Unity

Swedish solo artist Martina Edoff, began her career as a singer, recording, and touring with multi million selling hip hop artist Dr. Alban, the Swedish phenomenon E-Type a.o, then became a founding member of the glam metal act The Poodles. After some time went by she returned as a solo artist and will be releasing her debut album "Unity" showcasing her kind of music that she loves the most, as she has the time of her life just being herself. Speaking of her, she Martina Edoff caught up to discuss this release and her plans for it.

1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do as Martina Edoff?

Martina: Hi, my name is Martina Edoff and I am a singer, songwriter, entrepreneur who has been working in the business for 20+ years.

2. Tell us about your thoughts on your local music scene?

Martina: Even though Sweden is a small country we have lots of brilliant musicians/producers/composers and artists here, but the local music scene seems a bit tight sometimes and the amount of places to perform aren’t that huge. The interest of an act is usually more acclaimed abroad. That's why I guess many bands have their fan base abroad other than Sweden.

3. What type of artist are you?

Martina: I want to share whether it is a feeling of thoughtfulness or to just simply get energy boosted by listening to my music. For me it is about to engage in one way or another.

4. Who or what inspired you to become an artist?

Martina: I realized at an early age that I had a strong voice and I felt good singing. I had a fascination about everything that had to do with music. The very first time a held a microphone  in my hands was like an out of body experience. I just knew that it was my call. When I was a child everybody listened at ABBA :) and when I was in my teens I was hooked by the 80´s rock music. Ann Wilson from Heart was my role model. She had it all (she still has) and her singing skills was something I adored. I joined bands and were out on local stages to perform at first and after a while I was offered to work at a place in mid Stockholm to perform every night. At that time the rap/techno/club music was very hot here in Stockholm and I was asked to go on a world tour as a back up singer. I took the job and I learned a lot. Since I always have had the rock music closest to my heart I kept on writing my own songs during the tours and TV-shows I did at the time. The dream to do my own thing one day has never disappeared and I was true to my heart when I was offered record deals from large companies and declined it. I wanted it to be me all the way when I decide to do it my own name.

5. How does a name like Martina Edoff, come into the picture and actually mean and or represent?

Martina: It´s my given name and it represent me as an artist and what I stand for.

6. What artists or bands have influenced you and your sound?

Martina: As I mentioned before Ann Wilson was a role model to me when I was a teenager. I've always been fascinated by male and female singers who could use the full potential of their voices, Freddie Mercury, David Coverdale, Whitney Houston among others. The music that has influenced me the most is classic/melodic/hard rock!

7. What lyrical theme do you use in your music? What message do you want to send?

Martina: Sometimes it´s something that one can relate to by for example a relationship and sometimes about life itself and if it has a message of sadness I usually want to turn it around to end the song with a positive view on it. Like a metaphor; ”Beyond darkness there is always light”. If I am able to give hope to one person through my music I´m happy! And the music is meant to give energy, to get in a party mood and to just feel good!

8. Why should people buy your latest album?

Martina: If they like melodic rock they should definitely take a listen to it!

9.  Could you describe your show, visually and musically for us?

Martina: It´s pure rock n roll!

10.  What song do you enjoy playing the most?

Martina: Come Alive is a good live song!

11.  How has Social Networking (Facebook,Twitter, etc.) impacted you as an artist?

Martina: Facebook has been helpful to reach out to a broader audience.

12.  What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?

Martina: Hopefully many more good albums.

13.  Anything else you would like to add or want to say?

Martina: I´m really looking forward to release this album and I really hope you will like it! See you soon!
