Warfield's Dominik Takes on the Barrage Fire While Getting the Call to War
Thrash metal go getters Warfield have been hard at work writing and recording for their EP release "Call To War", with the success of their hit single and video for the track "Barrage Fire". There is simply no telling as to where these guys will end up next. Drummer Dominik Marx discusses on their EP, video, and future ahead.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Dominik: “Currently the band consists of Johannes Clemens (19, vocals), Matthias Clemens (21, guitar), Dominic Potts (20, guitar), Ethan Stokes (22, bass) and me, Dominik Marx (18, drums). The first band formation took place with the introduction of bassist Frederik Pütz rather than the beginning of 2012 after Johannes, Matthias and I had already played together. After a few appearances Dominic joined the band in the fall of 2013 to occupy the second guitar. Shortly thereafter Frederik Pütz had to leave the band because of time problems and was replaced by Ethan at the beginning of 2015.”
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Dominik: "There’s no big story behind it, just derived from the Slayer DVD "War at the Warfield”.”
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Dominik: “We come from Kaiserslautern, Rhineland-Palatinate. There isn’t a big underground scene, but the local events are mostly attended well. Sometimes there are underground meetings, too. It’s great to meet guys who love the same thing like you. Most of them have their own band and sometimes you can plan gigs. Cool bands from our local area are Zerogod, Nekkromaniac and Sensles. I also have a second band named Redgrin. We play Oldgeezers Steamroller Death Core, haha (no Metalcore, screamshit or something else, just Death Metal its finest art!) and come from Kaiserslautern, too. So let’s check out!”
4. How would you describe your style?
Dominik: “We play Thrash Metal, so it sounds like that. Tight riffs, melodic incoming parts and much of Shred, deposited by energetic and of course fast drums.”
5. What's your take on your EP "Call To War", what can we expect?
Dominik: “I’m happy with the EP. It was an awesome feeling to release an EP with your own band! There are lots of ass-kicking riffs on it, stop-and-go parts, great breaks and some awesome mosh parts! Sure you can’t expect too much, because it’s our first EP recorded by self-production. The sound isn’t that punchy as desired, but we always got good reviews and feedback from our fans. That’s the most important thing.”
6. Why did you think that "Barrage Fire" was going to make a good single and video choice?
Dominik: “Barrage fire includes all the important elements which are representing Warfield. It’s also one of our newer songs, people didn’t get the chance to hear it live that often. So we offered them a surprise by choosing this track.”
7. Do you have a favorite track off the EP "Call To War"?
Dominik: “I’m not speaking for all, but my favorite track is “Martyr”, because in my opinion it’s the song which sounds the most aggressive and Old-School. Furthermore it’s the only song we’ve always played live since our first gig so far.”
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Dominik: "We want to thrash the underground scene as much and often as possible. Hopefully we achieve that with our first LP which is planned for 2016.”
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Dominik: “Our full EP “Call To War” and our video clip “Barrage Fire” are online at YouTube. Furthermore you can listen to the song “Call To War” at SoundCloud. The EP is available at the IMM Records web shop and also at Amazon.”
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Dominik: “They should remember the classic Old-School Metal, played by a young and hungry band. We hope the people enjoy it and that they have us in mind after hearing us.”
