Beautiful Deception's Jacklyn Seeks Strength for New Music, Future Shows and Much More
Beautiful Deception is a Goth Rock/Dark Rock band from Santa Cruz, CA. Comprised of sisters Jacklyn Paulette on Lead Vocals/Lead Guitar and Madeline Rose on Vocals/Keyboard. Jacklyn Paulette is a songwriter and Beautiful Deception was an outlet for one of her songwriting styles . Jacklyn Paulette is currently in the band Stellar Corpses (formerly in Requiem)and has another Indie project with her sister Madeline Rose called Dressed In Roses. Thus, Jacklyn took the time to discuss her Beautiful Deception with us and what it holds for her in the future.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Jackie: The band is actually a project me and my sister started about two years ago. We had recorded a few demos over the past two years and wrote a full set of songs to be ready to start getting a band together to play shows this fall/winter. We already had known Rob, the bassist, from another band that we played in called The Black Tigers and we'd known our drummer Grae from a couple other bands we used to play in a few years back. Finally, our guitarist Dustan decided to join us, who is the lead singer of my other band Stellar Corpses. We found out we all work really well together and have decided to move forward with everything!
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Jackie: It's something I came up with when I was thinking deeply about life and I realized, as I took a look around me, that there is a dark side to everything and that everything is not always what it seems. Life, itself, is a beautiful deception.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Jackie: We're based out of Santa Cruz, CA and the scene is kind of small, especially in our genre of music. The number one local band I would recommend is Stellar Corpses, but I'm biased ;) The overall Bay Area scene is pretty cool though and a couple bands I'd recommend would be Limnus and Suicide Queen.
4. How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?
Jackie: We're definitely more of a goth rock/ dark wave/ dark rock band and we're mostly influenced by bands like: AFI, The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Rob Zombie, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, HIM, Marilyn Manson, and Aesthetic Perfection
5. What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?
Jackie: We've only released a few demo recordings, but we're working on an EP at the moment that should hopefully give us a push in the right direction.
6. What made you guys decide to form a band?
Jackie: My sister Maddie and I have always had the dream of starting our own goth rock band together so we decided to make it happen once we realized that we finally had the free time to do it.
7. What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?
Jackie: Although we are still in our beginning stages, we are very ambitious and hard-working. We're willing to do what's necessary to try and make a name for ourselves and get our music heard. We are also very vocal-driven and can write songs on a whim!
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Jackie: We definitely plan on booking more shows, getting our EP recorded and put out, get some merchandise made and we're looking to come out strong for 2016
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Jackie: We have a Facebook page where you can hear our music and keep up with what's going on with us at: www.facebook.com/beautifuldeception as well as our Reverbnation page at https://www.reverbnation.com/beautifuldeception.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Jackie: Every song comes straight from the heart and not every song may be about what you think it is about! Thank you so much and I'm so sorry these answers are late! Finally just now had the time to sit down and answer. Thanks again!
