Incentive's Rory Talks New Music is Coming and Touring Plans as Well!
Incentives has been around since 2013, releasing music, playing shows, and has further plans, on releasing new music, playing more shows and perhaps touring. Guitarist Rory discusses how the band gets started, and what's the latest news in terms of new music and future activity.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Rory: So the band has had a heap of changes to members over the years, but its consisted primarily of the three “original” members (Kyle, Max and myself). However our current line up isn’t going anywhere which we are all incredibly thankful for. It started it out with Max (guitar) and myself (guitar) wanting to form a band. We went to high school together and always went to shows, and shared music with each other so it was a natural progression. Kyle (the vocalist), went to primary school with me and I knew he was into the same sort of music so I hit him up! It kinda just snowballed from there. Jeremy (bass) joined later on, I knew him through uni and he was super keen to play! And Joe (drums) hit us up on Facebook and we all gelled so that was that!
2. What is the origin of the band’s name?
Rory: We were looking to book out a rehearsal space, and were pressured into deciding right then and there, so I decided on incentives for no particular reason. It had a nice ring and somewhat, of a decent meaning, so we went for it. I think we planned on changing it, but it kinda grew on us.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
Rory: So a few of the band members are from Interstate, but we are based out of Melbourne! We are blessed to have such a thriving music scene, with heaps of amazing talent either up-coming or established. Melbourne is full of talented bands to check out, including ocean grove, void of vision, sentinel, arkive, harbours etc. The list is endless!
4. How would you describe your style?
Rory: I'd say we are kind of like a melodic metalcore band for lack of a better term. We love our groove and bouncy riffs which are some what “Djent”. But then we are also massive fans of endless amount of melody and emotive song writing. We’ve got the tech, but we’ve also got the heart haha.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
Rory: At the moment we have out a really old two track, followed by two singles “Absence” and “Self-Decay”. We then recently dropped a new single called “Corrode”which everyone should check out. As far as what someone can expect, I'd have to say a heap of melody, feels, and groove.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Rory: For sure! “Corrode” is off our upcoming EP which drops June 30th. The EP is called “Dusk”so keep an eye out for it.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Rory: We’ve got some shows coming up around Melbourne in the next month, and maaaybe a little bit of touring in Australia but who knows? ;)
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Rory: We just hope that we can share our music with as many people as we can! It would be so awesome to one day head to Europe or the U.S and play shows over there. Even if we don’t get overseas, it would just be sick to play somewhere like festival hall, or unify!
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Rory: All of our stuff is up on YouTube, which is free to view of course. We are also on bandcamp and soundcloud, all our music is up for free! So go nuts and download. Our Ep will have some physical copies as well, which are now up for pre-order if anyone is keen to support the band!
10. What is it you'd like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Rory: I'd say the overall emotion of the song! Whether it by some sort of relation to the lyrics, or just the flow of the song writing. As long as people can dig it, and feel a connection that's all we want.
