Pierce The Veil's Tony Dsicusses the Misadventures of Touring, New Music, and Future Activity
Pierce The Veil have been an active band for the past 10 years, in which time they have gone on to tour the world, playing shows here and there, as well as write and record for four albums, which includes their latest album "Misadventures", where the band is currently on the road, touring playing it in full swing. Having further plans on touring, touring, touring, since not being able to do so for a while now. Guitarist Tony Perry discusses the band's latest album, current touring cycle and what the future holds for these California locals.
1. First of all, who are you, and what do you do in the band?
Tony: My name's Tony and I play guitar.
2. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Tony: Vic is the one that came up with the name, he heard it in college I think it was, forget which class, but it was a term for business. Basically what it is, is that piercing the veil cutting out a problem of its source of course. Before it turns into something bigger. So he liked applying that to life, relationships etc. if anything is going wrong, just to cut out those problems. At their source, before anything else can happen.
3. Why did you want to play this genre?
Tony: I can't really pick, I guess transition from different styles of music, we all grew up listening to whether it was punk, rock or hardcore stuff, it was mix of what we all liked.
4. Any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Tony: I mean, I still get nervous before shows, don't have any tips because it's never gotten any better.
5. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Tony: Hmmm the other night, a fan asked me to call him a tree. So I did and then he walked away, that was really strange and weird.
6. What do you think of your fans?
Tony: They are amazing. We've slowly grown the fan base over 10 years now, and it's so amazing how many people have stuck by us. We have done meet and greets, where we've had fans say they were 15 when first hearing us and are now 25, it's pretty crazy they have stuck with us for so long.
7. Why did you want to go and play "Misadventures" in its entirety? Will you consider doing this for any other release of yours?
Tony: Our fans are hungry for new music. We thought we were going to have the record out a lot sooner, but were kinda late on our own promises. So having them wait for so long, we just decided to give it to them, all at once and see how it goes.
8. When can we expect to see a live album or live DVD from you guys?
Tony: That I don't know. We don't have any plans in the works for that but it would be cool to do. We did do a DVD on our last touring cycle, so maybe we will do one for this cycle as well. It's still pretty early, just starting things back up again. So there's still time for something to happen.
9. You guys went on tour alongside Sleeping With Sirens quite a few times, will we be seeing you guys teaming up to tour together again or will those be the only times?
Tony: Anything is possible. I don't know where they are with their touring schedule, but hopefully we can do something together again.
10. Since you have so many albums, does it keep getting more difficult to put together a setlist?
Tony: Yeah but we are also getting longer slots to play, so it leaves room for more songs. But when playing a festival it gets harder to pick, when only having 5 songs to go with.
11.When you headline do you change things up and switch songs from show to show?
Tony: We usually stick to a solid setlist throughout the whole tour. Unless there's too many songs, then we will switch out songs from night to night, but we normally have a solid set, we play each and every night.
12. You have released several songs from the album, but when can we expect to see an official video, will the video or videos be a continuation from one another?
Tony: We just filmed a music video before this tour, so hopefully soon we can release it.
13. Out of the four albums, you guys have released, do these releases have a connection in any shape or form with one another, or does each one stand on its own?
Tony: Lyrically I guess, Vic writing about his life, so there's a connection between all of the records with that content.
14. What does next year hold for Pierce The Veil?
Tony: Just a lot of touring, touring as much as we can and see how things go, since we haven't been on the road in a while.
15. Do you have any plans on releasing an acoustic release?
Tony: There were a couple of acoustic songs released for this album, I think there are a handful on the deluxe edition of this album.
16. Do you have any last words for fans, or potential new fans?
Tony: Just to the fans we have already had, thanks for the support. For the new fans just come out on to the shows, listen to the songs and sing along with us.
