Wednesday 13 Loves Halloween and It's Atmosphere!

Known to many as fronting the Murderdolls, solo artist Wednesday 13, has had several bands over the course of his musical career, those include, Murderdolls, Maniac Spider Trash, Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13, Bourbon Crow, and Gunfire 76. That being said, Wednesday 13 has taken the time to talk about his seventh album, progressive touring, and plans on releasing a new DVD, and whether or not the Murderdolls will ever return.

1. Why did you want to go with calling yourself Wednesday 13 instead of Joseph Poole? Does anyone still call you by Joseph Poole?

W13: I started using the Wednesday 13 name back around 1995 when I was beginning my old band Frankenstein Drag Queens. I wanted something futuristic and space villain sounding so I chose Wednesday 13 as my stage name. And I'm not sure what asshole started using my real name in the press awhile ago, but its annoying and I prefer people to refer to me as Wednesday 13 unless you’r my parents, then that's ok.

2. Does number 13 in your name, reference to the unlucky number 13 or was it just a number to your liking?

W13: Yes, its unlucky to some but its always been my lucky number. I mainly get the 13 from my fave show the Munsters, and their address was 1313 Mockingbird Lane.

3. Since you have so many different bands, Wednesday 13, Manic Spider Trash, Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13, Bourbon Crow, Gunfire 76, and the Murderdolls, will we ever see all those acts come together for a showcase or tour? Or would that be too much for you to take on? IF that were to happen who would be the headliner, supporter, opener, out of those acts ONLY playing.

W13: No, Maniac Spider Trash, Frankenstein Drag Queens, and Murderdolls are no longer a touring thing anymore. I do play songs occasionally from these bands at shows, but i have no interest in making a show featuring all of it. The closest I get to playing a show with all the songs from these former bands, is when I do the Undead Unplugged acoustic shows where I play songs form my entire career.

4. Where are you in the recording process of the new album?

W13: We just completed the record yesterday after 3 long months of writing and recording.

5. You will be working with producer Chris Zeuss Harris, who did work with you before on the last Murderdolls album, so will this album be remesense to that release and perhaps your 2011 release "Calling All Corpses"?

W13: The new album doesn’t sound like anything I have released before, this is a new chapter into Wednesday 13. I chose Zeuss because we had worked with him in 2010 on the Murderdolls album and we had a blast. For this release i wanted to hire a producer to get our sound to the next level, and what we achieved with him is beyond my expectations.

6. You have said that this seventh album "Condolences" will be "heavier" define heavier.

W13: The music has just been evolving into a heavier sound over the past couple releases and I wanted to keep it going in that direction. I wanted to make this album was heavy but still stay true to my past, but in a new and improved way.

7. How would you describe the overall sound of the new album? How does it compare to your previous releases?

W13: I think its the perfect combination of everything I’ve ever done, and def the best sounding album production wise. I think there is something for all the fans on this one. Its very dark, violent and fun.

8. Are you using any new instrumentation you've never used in the recording process before?

W13: No, in fact I did not play guitar at all on the recording process. I helped with writing but I’ve mainly stuck to what i do best, and I've just tried to concentrate and improve my voice. I feel it’s the strongest its ever been and its made me a lot more confident over the years.

9. "Monsters of the Universe: Come Out and Plague" (2015) was a sizable critical success. Did you feel any pressure to follow it up?

W13: Yes, at first I did, but after a few days of writing and hearing the new music we were coming up with I wasn’t worried at all. I'm really proud of the Monsters album and it showcased a new side to the band, we took a lot of chances musically and the fans really responded well to it.

10. Alice Cooper has got to have his vision in the form of a maze, in the Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights over the years, if Wednesday 13, had the chance to do the same for Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights, how would you do it?

W13: I'm not sure, but it would be great to have something like that. I think Id have to have a zombie chicken coop maze in there somewhere, because I’m a werido.

11. You have released three "live" releases "Fuck It, We'll Do It Live" (2008), "Scream Britain Scream" (2014), and "Almost Dead: LIVE" (2016), are the last two releases, similar to 2008's live release or different?

W13: The are all totally different. The new DVD is still in the works and will feature lots of live and backstage footage aver the UK and Europe.

12. Every Halloween, Wednesday 13 has put on a showcase, if you didn't have the chance to do so, how would Wednesday 13 celebrate Halloween? Go trick or treating? Handing out candy? Or would you be determined to play on Halloween every Halloween?

W13: I haven’t had a Halloween off in many years, that's my night and I love the atmosphere of the holiday. If I had a Halloween off ever, Id prob just do an old horror movie marathon like I did as a kid.

13. The Murderdolls have been gone for 5 years, do you see them to come back perhaps in another 5 years, making it a solid 10 years, and then that be the time to bring them back, or is their time dead and gone?

W13: Unfortunately Murderdolls is no longer an active band. We made 2 amazing albums that put me where I am today. Joey and I haven’t spoke in quite sometime. So, to be honest, I don’t know if Murderdolls could ever happen again? However, I didn’t think the last one would happen, but it did. Life is crazy sometimes.
