Ashes Of My Regrets' Brandon says Music is Our Lives and Gives a Feeling We Can't Describe
Ashes Of My Regrets have been writing and recording for their latest EP, "Caricatures", really liking the direction, they have taken with this EP. They have plans on wanting to play as much as possible, just building up their name, a whole lot more, than they did before, getting everyone to know who they are and what music they play. Guitarist Brandon Rodriguez discusses this release as well as the band.
1. What role do you play in the band?
Brandon: I’m Brandon Rodriguez and I play guitar in the band and write a lot of the music instrumentally.
2. Ashes Of My Regrets is your namesake, but why is that? Does the name represent a meaning or is it just a name?
Brandon: The name Ashes Of My Regrets means to live life without having any Regrets, to never be afraid of doing what you want.
3. What has influenced your sound and style?
Brandon: Personally I'm influenced by a lot of things, whether it's the soundtrack to a movie or an orchestra, or even my favorite album from a band I love.
4.What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
Brandon: Our songs are very personal, whether they're about someone screwing one of us over or a song about never giving on your dreams.
5. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)
Brandon: I usually start an idea, it could be just a riff or chorus, then our vocalist and I work on the song until it's done then get input from the other guys.
6. How do you describe your music to people?
Brandon: To be honest its hard for me to describe any music. Usually I'll tell people if you like heavy stuff go check it out because i feel like people can't really get a feel for what we sound like by me explaining they just have to listen ya know?
7. What image do you think your music conveys?
Brandon: Depending on the song it varies. But overall I just really think it generally conveys a dark image.
8. You will soon be releasing your new EP, "Caricatures" can you tell me a little bit about it?
Brandon: ‘Caricatures’ definitely still has the really heavy and ominous side of us. However it also adds a lot more melodic breaks such as in “Daydreams”. I really think it's a good mix of both and to me it feels like something new.
9. What is the concept behind the EP and how did the idea come about?
Brandon: The concept of the EP as a whole is really based around exaggerating different human emotions. For example Incorruptible focuses a lot on depression while “I’ll Be Damned” focuses a lot on anxiety. Every song kind of exaggerates different human emotions/situations. “Daydreams” really conveys the whole message that we want to give with this which is that you choose what to exaggerate in your life. You can dwell on the bad things and let it consume you or embrace them and make the best out of it.
10. What is your favorite song on "Caricatures" and why?
Brandon: My favorite song off ‘Caricatures’ would definitely have to be “Daydreams” mainly because of how much I love how the chorus came out.
11. What can fans expect from the new EP?
Brandon: They can definitely expect a new and improved Ashes Of My Regrets but they definitely will find elements of our sound they have come to know.
12. What was the writing and recording process like for the EP?
Brandon: The writing process was a lot of hard work. Every song really had its own way of coming about. Sometimes one of the songs was built off of a guitar riff that I made up while others started off with Chris making up an intro with a bunch of synths and keys. The recording process went pretty smooth it was a lot of fun tracking all of the songs. To be honest some of the lead riffs were pretty hard to record at first because I really wanted to challenge myself with these new songs.
13. Why do you think people should check out your new EP once released?
Brandon: We put a lot of hard work into this and we spent hours making every song perfect and I definitely feel like it shows. We seriously poured our heart and soul into every single one of them. I feel like we bring something new to the table so i really think people should give it a listen.
14. How would you say you differ from other bands and artists on the scene?
Brandon: I think one of the things that I personally makes us different is how hard we work. A lot of bands I see now a days just kind of wait for something to happen and we have been constantly working and working every single day to get where we are and we will continue to do so until we are where we wanna be.
15. What do you want to achieve as a band?
Brandon: We want to be the biggest, best and most successful band we can possibly be. We hope to one day playing sold out tours all across the world. Music is our lives and playing in front of people just gives us all a feeling that I can’t really describe with words.
16. What does next year hold for Ashes Of My Regrets?
Brandon: For 2017 our goal is to hit touring as hard as we can. We wanna make it a point to get on the road as much as possible.
17. Describe Ashes Of My Regrets in three words.
Brandon: Dark, aggressive and dynamic.
18. If that your final answer?
Brandon: Yes.
