Problems, anxiety, and frustration is what started horror inspired quintet One Last Shot. Since they started back in 2008, they have been busy writing and recording a single, full-length, and several EP's as well. That said, they have gone on to play shows in numerous places through the years. Now sometime later they have returned to writing and recording once more to release their all new full-length album "The Death of a Poet and All of His Friends" as well as a single turned video for "Leather and Fangs" off the album. Frontman vocalist Jeremy discusses this single, new album's content, and plans for a summer tour!
1. First of all, who are you, and what do you do in the band?
Jeremy: I'm Jeremy & I sing in One Last Shot.
2. How did the namesake, One Last Shot, came into the picture, does it have a meaning behind it?
Jeremy: Life is very shot. A lot of people take it for granted every day. I believe you need to live your life like it's your "one last shot" to make it the best you can.
3. You went and released a new single, turned video for "Leather & Fangs", can you discuss said song and video for us.
Jeremy: 'Leather & Fangs" is a really good mixture of sounds that are on our upcoming album. We also just really dig this song haha. The video was shot by Ron Bonk of SRS Cinema, who does awesome b-horror movies. We are big fans of horror so it was great working with him. It was also shot in the haunted, Landmark Theater in our home town. It's a perfect introduction to this new album/ era of One Last Shot.
4. Do you have an idea as to what the next single and video will be?
Jeremy: Yes.
5. What was it like to shoot a video inside a haunted theater, do you believe in ghosts, super natural, and paranormal types of things.
Jeremy: I recently saw The Phantom of the Opera there. It was breathtaking and amazing. The fact we got to shoot in such a historical local landmark was unreal. As for ghosts? I personally do not believe in them, but I would be lying if I said there wasn't an eerie feeling the whole time we were there.
I grew up watching horror movies. Besides this band horror movies are my thing. Horror influence is bond to come out in anything I end up doing. It would be fake if I didn't include that type of imagery in the art I'm apart of.
7. What would you say are the bands biggest collective musical influences, and also individual ones that you feel can be heard in the record?
Jeremy: We all have different music influences. It's a collection of a lot of different types. This album is really like making a soundtrack to a movie that isn't made yet. You'll be able to really hear how epic and theatrical this record gets, once it's out.
8. Why did you go the concept album route on the new album?
Jeremy: I've always been a story teller. When meeting Zach, our guitarist, I immediately found out he was too. A lot of my favorite albums are concept albums and I enjoy that the bands gave me more than just the music if I chose to look into it.
9. How did you challenge yourself sound wise to fit this concept?
Jeremy: The concept didn't challenge us sound wise but we did push ourselves further than ever before musically. You'll hear that the music has grown and is much better than ever before.
10. Is the concept of the album going to develop into any other mediums like film or graphic novels?
Jeremy: We are going to try and make as many music videos as we are able to for this album. Also, there is a book being written that explains the story going on, if the listener chooses to dive deeper into the album.
11. Did you get the album you wanted? Is everything on there or were there some things that were just impossible to pull off?
Jeremy: Nothing is impossible.
12. On this album you have a character called "The Poet". will we ever officially see this character and what he looks like, in any shape or form?
Jeremy: I've sort of been dressing on stage like what I envision the Poet would look like. But truthfully, we kept the characters by just their titles on purpose because they can be anyone really. We encourage people to use their imagination.
13. Do you think his story will continue onto the next release or this is his story right here, right now, and that's where it will remain.
Jeremy: This is currently it for him. I already have ideas for the next album and it's a completely different story. It's also way more involved, but that's information for another time haha
14. Why did you want to go the DIY approach with releasing this album, as opposed to being signed to a record label.
Jeremy: We aren't opposed to a label, but we're currently waiting for the right one.
15. What’s coming up for shows and tours?
Jeremy: We have our album release show in our home town, Syracuse, NY on March 31st at The Lost Horizon. And I believe we are hitting PA soon, but nothing crazy until the summer. We have a tour for the summer planned, we'll have details in a few weeks about that.
16. Anything else you would like to say or want to add?
Jeremy: Thank you for interviewing us and keep doing what you do.
