Dawn Of Ashes' Kristof Bathory Talks of the Guardians of the Daemonolatry Gnosis

Dawn Of Ashes known to others as DOA will be releasing their seventh album "Daemonolatry Gnosis" via Metropolis Records this summer. But before that happens the band has set their sights for the road, going out on their own headlining tour of course. The main man behind it all of course is Kristfo Bathory, who handles all the music, vocals, left hand path propagandist and the mouth of the infernal. In which he goes into detail about the new album, touring plans, and their future.

1. It's been 4 years, since we last spoke, can you give me a brief summary as to what Dawn Of Ashes, has been up too between then and now?

K: Well, we called quits back in 2014 and reestablished the band in 2016. We wrote an album last year called "Theophany" and are now releasing a new album called "Daemonolatry Gnosis" which comes out on June 9th. We are also about to embark on a full North America / Canada tour start April 27th to May 23rd.

2. You went ahead and released a new song, turned single called "Guardians", what is the tale to tell there?

K: In a short description without getting too far into details. Guardians was based on the work of Carl Jung, Aliester Crowley, and other books on the same subject. Basically the connection with the psyche archetypes which is also called our "daemons" or what Crowley called our "Guardian Angels". The LHP teaches how to connect with these archetypes in order to bring totality into the individual. Pulling the will out from the darkness and into the light.

3. Why did you want "Guardians" to be the first glimpse of the new album "Daemonolatry Gnosis"?

K: I felt that this song was a good single to release. It's really well written and is a good song to show the strength and power of this new album.

4. Will there be a video following suit to "Guardians" or will that be for a whole another song off "Daemonolatry Gnosis"?

K: We will be releasing a music video for a different song.

5. Why did you go with titling this album "Daemonolatry Gnosis", what does that represent for this release.

K: Daemonolatry means the worship or acknowledgement of daemons which is very different from the Christianized word for an evil spirit. Bringing the self towards totality is an act of self deification. Gnosis comes from the "Gnostic" religion which means knowledge of spiritual truth which you will find truth once you discover the totality of the self. The Left Hand Path is a path based on the transformation of the psyche in order to change the subjective and objective universe.

6. Who was the one to design the album's artwork? Does it tie into the title?

K: I came up with the idea for the art but the artist Machine-Room who also did our 2010 album art for "Genocide Chapters" executed the artwork. He did an amazing job. The artwork, lyrical content, and the music all had to connect with each other.

7. Does "Daemonolatry Gnosis" have a concept to it?

K: As I explained in the previous question. It's all of my knowledge from the Left Hand Path and a lot of philosophical and ritualistic material.

8. If it does have a concept, how did you challenge yourself, sound wise to fit this concept?

K: My job is to challenge myself and if I don't challenge myself, My job isn't getting done. The hardest challenge was how I was going to express everything perfectly. I nitpicked this album to death until I finally was comfortable to send it to the label.

9. Is the concept of the album going to develop into any other mediums like film or graphic novels?

K: I would hope so.

10. Did you get the album you wanted? Is everything on there or were there some things that were just impossible to pull off?

K: I feel that our maturity has blossomed into what we have been striving for with this album.

11. How much emotion would you say, comes out when hearing that Dawn Of Ashes, has released seven albums, since it's creation way back when.

K: Its been a long road. Sometimes I question a lot that I have done in the past but I also know that everything is a learning experience. I guess I feel old.

12. Will we ever see Dawn Of Ashes head into the acoustic realm with it's music, or that is something you would not touch at all?

K: Anything is possible.

13. You are about to head out on your own headlining tour entitled "Fire of the Phoenix 2017 Tour". What does the band have lined-up for it, anything new or different or same route as always?

K: I think there is going to be a lot of power on stage and ever ritual is going to have a deep, spiritual performance of strong energy.

14. What will the set list look like, more new songs, old songs, or mix and match of everything and anything?

K: Mainly material from the new album, Theophany, and Anathema.

15. What else can we expect to see from you guys, as far as this year is concerned, besides touring and the new album.

K: I am sure we have a lot more in store for everyone. Stay tuned.
