Life in 24 Frames' Kris says their Music is a Personal Story

Life In 24 Frames new album "Ctrl+Z", tends to be one of those releases, that takes the listener on a personal yet deep journey of reflection, showcasing their warm wound with layered vocal harmonies, that will echo throughout their musical careers. Frontman vocalist and guitarist Kris Adams discusses about those personal manners in regards to the bands musical approach and style.

1. What role do you play in the band?

Kris: My name is Kris Adams. I play guitar and lead vocal.

2. Life in 24 Frames is your namesake, but why is that? Does the name represent a meaning or is it just a name?

Kris: Yes. Has a pretty deep meaning.  It's a film reference "life as art", "art imitating life" but we do like to let the listener take away from it what it means for them, so we don't ever get too deep with our own personal meaning.

3. What has influenced your sound and style?

Kris: No comment.

4.What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Kris: I would say that life is what influences our music. I think I can say that our music has a tendency to directly correlate to mood. This album (CTRL+Z) in particular. It covers a very life changing, monumental year. Personally.

5. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

Kris: Yes we do write all our own music. Typically the core of the song starts with myself writing a very singer songwriter stripped down style tune, then taken in by the full band and worked on as a group for direction and feel.  Though recently we have had songs born of pure collaboration as a group.

6. How do you describe your music to people?

Kris: Hmm. Hard to answer this question without feeling reductive, but we have had it described as Dallas Green singing for Pink Floyd. Haha. Without raising comparisons, I like to think our music is meant for the listener looking to take a deep dive. There is a lot to discover.

7. What image do you think your music conveys?

Kris: An early spring day. When winters chill is first starting to burn off and the warmth of the sun rays hits your skin between the periodic breaks in the clouds above. When the breeze picks up slightly, enough to fill your lungs with the smell of new life.

8. What's your take on "Ctrl+Z" as a whole?

Kris: CTRL+Z is a VERY personal story.  I think the listener looking for an immersive experience that is willing to take that deep dive would be able to find that answer.

9. What is the concept behind "Ctrl+Z" and how did the idea come about?

Kris: I personally underwent extreme life changes in 2013. The idea for the album started to roll around in 2014.  In an attempt to capture the lows and highs of life in that year. Conceptually we wanted to capture the experience of loss and perseverance.  So we decided to write it from the perspective of taking a trip around the sun. An entire year. To have the album feeling and vibe travel through the seasons and evoke the feelings you get from each of them.

10. What is your favorite title on off it and why?

Kris: Well if we are taking about titles alone, there is a hidden title when all of the track sub titles are sewn together. That would be my favorite. If we are taking about my favorite song from the record it would be January and February combined.

11. What can fans expect from this new album?

Kris: A far deeper experience than anything else we have released in the past. That and a marriage of our first and second Records. Hopefully it will take the listeners on a journey.

12. What was the writing and recording process like for this album?

Kris: We spent 10 days in a studio overlooking Stinson Beach CA recording just drums and bass (rhythm section).  Then spent another week in a cabin near Lake Tahoe CA capturing the guitars and ambiance heard on the album.  All the vocals were recorded in my home video arcade we converted into a studio for the album. We were looking to capture the essence of each of the locations in those aspects of the record.

13. Why do you think people should check out your new album?

Kris: CTRL+Z is a love letter to the human condition. Something we all as human beings struggle with.  I think we all want to be able to relate or be related to. I discovered in writing this record that I was not alone in feeling the ways I did. If listeners can take that away from their experience with CTRL+Z then I think we will have achieved our goal.

14. How would you say you differ from other bands and artists on the scene?

Kris: When we are creating we are using doing such in a vacuum of sorts. Unfortunately we didn't get a lot of time during the album creation process to stay in touch with the scene. Which I turn we hope resonates the genuine human emotion that went into the creation.

15. What do you want to achieve as a band?

Kris: We would just be humbled to know that our music can reach its listeners on the personal level that the music that has inspired us over our lives has. Much like many other art forms, music can be the difference between feeling alienated and understood.

16. What does next year hold for Life In 24 Frames?

Kris: Hopefully a lot of touring and more video content!

17. Describe Life In 24 Frames in three words.

Kris: Genuine raw emotion.  Thank you so much for your time and your interest in CTRL+Z.
