Spylights's Vincent Fly's Solo with New Project
Spylights is a solo project of The Scorseses former frontman vocalist Vincent Ebeier. He decide to form this new project because he wanted to continue writing and recording music. This would lead to his own creations within the music spectrum called Spylights. So he has taken some time to discuss this all new solo project of his and what he has in-store for it!
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Well my name is Vincent Ebeier and Spylights is my solo project. I was the lead vocalist of The Scorseses from 2009 to late 2014. When the band called it quits, I started writing and recording music of my own. Even though I performed all the instrumentation and vocals on the Ep, I now have found some really talented guys who are on board that are going to be learning and playing the songs live. Hopefully those guys will remain permanent members and we can keep the wheel spinning!
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Spylights was a name that I came up with during a period of time when I was feeling lost, down, and imprisoned by the redundancy and uncertainties of life. I just visualized the image of someone trying to escape a prison in the dead of night surrounded by miles of snow and forest with spotlights searching for them.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
I am from a small but very cool music scene right outside New Orleans called Metairie, Louisiana. There are tons of talented bands here where I am from, there is almost too many to name but here goes.. Check out Resurface, Like Water, Bending, House of Goats, Zombies Eating Sheep, Rathbone Balthazar, The Arbitrary, Raise the Death Toll, Holoverse, Event Horizon, Solunar, Typical Stereo, The Tomb of Nick Cage, Jack Locke, The Absence Project, Harvest of Lions, The Weakness, The Continual, and the list goes on and on.
4. How would you describe your style?
I would describe it as a good mixture of singer songwriter style rock with hints of metal, alternative, Pop and jazz. It def has a strong 80's and 90's influence as well as a modern and progressive sound at points!
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
Up to this point I have only released a demo of the first single called "False Walls" on YouTube. The full EP is in the mixing stage right now and will be released for free on bandcamp.com by the end of Summer! You can expect plenty of music coming your way, a music video or 2, and some live shows!
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Besides the 6 from the EP, I have about 30 songs written, arranged, and recorded for the future. I am also steadily writing new material all the time!
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
I definitely am planning on playing live with a full band by the beginning of 2018.On the record I played and wrote all the parts, but can't do that in a live setting obviously. I just need to find a couple more passionate members to complete the team.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
I plan on releasing many colorful and dynamic records with Spylights as well as collaborations with other artists. I'll be playing the songs live to the people that want to hear them and enjoy them.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can go to Spylights.bandcamp.com to pick up a free copy of the record when it gets released! You can follow us on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with the project.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
First know that this is my first EP as a solo artist, and I did the whole thing myself when I really didn't know what I was doing as a recording engineer. Please go easy on me, and I hope you really enjoy it! Haha!
