Lovebites' Miho Takes Influence from Anime with Don't Bite the Dust

JRock metal chicks Lovebites consists of, Asami (lead singer), Miho (the band leader and the bassist), Haruna (drummer), Midori (guitarist) and Mi-Ya (guitar and keyboards). The band's unique source of style and sound is true to the heavy metal genre and it's bands that have accompanied it through years past. Thus, Lovebites have forged together a true formidable sound to make them unique.

Their first and only release so far titled "The Lovebites EP", released via Sliptrick Records has been making it's mark upon the regions as we speak, including spreading it's single of choice "Don't Bite The Dust". Lovebites's bassist Miho, has taken some time to discuss this EP, music creativity, and future plans.

1. For those unfamiliar with Lovebites, can you describe your style and type of music you play?

LOVEBITES is an all-female heavy metal band, consist of a vocalist, two guitarists, a bass player, and a drummer. Even though we all have very small body frames, we play so big and powerful like big boys.

2. Why did you want to call this band Lovebites?

When we first formed a band, we played Halestorm’s “Love Bites (So Do I)” at a rehearsal.  And our vocalist, Asami’s voice matched perfectly to that song we could not get it out of our heads, we just decided to name us “LOVEBITES”.  We love our name so much.

3. Do you write your own songs and what are your songs about?

Yes, we write our own songs.  As for music, we are influenced by and try to express many different aspects and style of metal such as power metal, thrash metal, NWOBHM (new wave of British heavy metal) and so on….  As for lyrics, we write based on our own experiences as well as our fantasy.  But mostly, we write about something that we remember and stays in our hearts from our past experiences.

4. Who are your musical influences and why are they your influences?

I personally was influenced by Steve Harris of IRON MAIDEN.  I love their old school band sound. I have to say the advantage of LOVEBITES is guitar harmonics and the bright bass sound just like them. I believe you will hear it in our music.

5. Can you tell us a little about your new EP "The Lovebites"? Why should we check it out?

"THE LOVEBITES EP" is a mini-album of 4 songs which we released this spring of 2017.  We are consist of the members who each of us were already well established/known with another band, and it was our debut mini album as LOVEBITES, it was highly anticipated.  We are so happy that so many fans love what we do as LOVEBITES more than we expected.

Also, 3 of 4 songs on the EP are written and sang in English, our overseas fans could enjoy and understand our music.  Our sound is heavily influenced by heavy metal from the U.S.A and Europe. We would like for you to check out amazing sound that were mixed and mastered by the incredible world-renowned engineer team from Finland, Mikko Karmila and Mika Jussila at the legendary studio, Finnvox Studios.

6. Have you had or will you have any of your music featured in any anime TV shows or movies?

No, not yet, but we would love our music to be featured in any anime TV shows or movies either as an opening or ending theme.  Anime that is filled with fantasy or/and fighting scenes would be great since our music is metal.  Of course because we are all-female band, it would be even better if the main character or/and featured character is an attractive girl. LOL

7. Do you have a favorite anime TV show or movie?

Love so many anime but “JOJO’S BIZARRE ADVENTURE” is my favorite. Our song, "Don’t Bite the Dust", is actually influenced by and named after the special power that was featured in the fourth part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

8. Has Lovebites ever played in the U.S.A. or plan to do so in the future?

LOVEBITES was formed to be a global band, our field is not limited to Japan, it’s worldwide.  We, as LOVEBITES, have not yet performed in the U.S. but we would love to in the very near future.

9. What makes Lovebites stand out above all the other Japanese acts out of Japan.

We believe that LOVEBITES plays very authentic heavy metal the most among other female bands in Japan. We are probably the only one that’s clearly influenced by U.S. and European heavy metal bands and that’s something we are proud of.

10. Do you have any last words for fans, or potential new fans?

We just started as LOVEBITES, and we are going in full speed. We are currently preparing our first full-length album…. We have already finished recording and are planning to release it before the year end.   We can’t wait for you to hear it!!!! Please look out for it. Thank you.
