MEGA COLOSSUS THE ADVENTURERS OF METAL
MEGA COLOSSUS have been an act of it's time, sometime ago since formation, releasing a number of releases here and there, under one name, then changing said name, releasing more music. It was a never ending ordeal that has brought the band to this point in time within their careers as musicians. Their latest album “Hyperglaive”, has made the buzz since the release, but with that comes all new music, and even shows in the works as well. Find out all there is to know about this act below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Man, it’s been a long ride, so I might miss something, but for me it began on a really fun road trip to see Iron Maiden in, oh shit it must have been 2005 or so. I had been bandless for an uncomfortable amount of time and some dudes were doing a new thing that seemed to be up my alley. I knew all these guys from other bands, and we all had a fun time hanging out already, so when they played me a rough demo of what they were up to I was immediately on board. I think 3 or 4 months later we were in a van, acting stupid, shooting fireworks at people and things. For me, that was when Colossus was born. That was Sean, Ry, Nick, Ben, and myself. Since then, we have had some lineup changes for various reasons. As far as I am concerned, everyone is just an absentee member. But for life reasons, we have switched out some guys here and there. Nick went on to be a hotshot lawyer, and in came ultimate badass guitarist Andy Lewis. Ben had to do other things and we got Doza. Andy went to school in NY, so in came James McCracken, with whom I still rock in Ruscha, then came current super shredder Stephen Cline. And now the band grows even more, as Ry steps aside for bass master Anthony Micale. We’re still on honeymoon with Anthony, having so much fun, this dude rules!
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
Well, the original name is kind of a no-brainer: Gigantic metal monument, or in its smallest incarnation, an invulnerable marvel comics hero. It turns out to be a pretty popular name with upstart bands, because, you know, it’s an awesome name for a rock band. Eventually, there was some confusion as other colossi began to make their way, so for the last record we decided to go ahead and power up to mega colossus. At least for now, we’re the only one of those. Other Colossi, Mega is taken!!!!!!!!
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are out of Raleigh. The scene here is strong. We are from the land of COC, Confessor, Valient Thorr, Birds of Avalon, and the like. in our genre, We have great bands coming to light now, bands like Knightmare, Widow, Walpyrgus, Salvacion, Children of the Reptile, just off the top of my head. I think North Carolina is blown’ up with regard to heavy metal!
4. How would you describe your style?
We call ourselves “adventure metal”, because we are concerned with that element of music. Music should be a journey, and we want that to be one that is fantastic and adventurous!
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
Under the name Colossus, we have released a full length, entitled “Colossus… and the rift of the pan-dimensional undergods”, and 2 EP’s, entitled “Drunk On Blood” and “Colossus.. and the Sepulchre of the mirror warlocks”. Under the name Mega Colossus, we have our latest, entitled “Hyperglaive”. Expect us to freak out as much as we can on any recording and at any live show. That is our goal.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We are writing the new record now. The subject matter for the new material is pretty awesome. I want to share, but I’m confident that you might poop. So it’s a secret.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We just got back from a pretty sweet time in Europe, and holy crap… we’re going back!!! It will be spring of 2019 before we can make it happen, but Europe… get ready! In the meantime, we have some regional tours coming together, as well as appearances at Alehorn of Power and Mad With Power festivals in Chicago, Il and Madison, Wi, respectively.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We take it as it comes, but for now, it’s write, record, tour, lather rinse, repeat. We’re used to it, so, you know… go with what you know.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
The easiest way to connect with us is through our band website, meltedfaces.com
There you’ll find links to all of our music, merch, and social media, and can find our tour schedules, shoot the shit, etc.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
I don’t want to micro-manage anyone’s experience, but I hope anyone listening to our music has a lot of fun, in the same sentiment as we had when we made it! Thanks for the talk, rock on!!!
