Rusty Shipp says to Keep a Look-Out for New Music!
Nautical rock n' roll ship wreckers Rusty Shipp is a band not from the sea of elsewhere but from Nashville, TN! Their goal being not just the next rock n' roll act around these parts, but to get the word out about their new album "Mortal Ghost" and even newer music in the works! The band goes into discussion about this album, new music, and what else they have planned.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
Our band was started in 2014 by the band's leading member, Russ T. Shipp, who had a vision to start a band that would bring back the best of what the rock legends gave us. But even beyond that, Russ T. wanted to create music with purpose in the lyrics that would get people to think about the more meaningful things of life. The band has had a rotation of other members, but Russ T. (guitar/vox/songwriting) remains. Additionally, the band is now made up of solid members, AJ Newton (drums), Elijah Apperson (lead guitar), and Michael Craft (bass).
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
The band was named after the lead of the group, Russ T. Shipp (literally his birth name). And since we're a Nautical Rock'n'Roll band, we it seemed to fit, so we went with it.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We're based out of Nashville, TN, which is nicknamed "Music City USA." It's an amazing city to live where just about every person you meet is a musician or in the music industry somehow. We have a strong support from the local rock scene here, especially more so as we have been growing our audience nationally and internationally. It's been great to watch our brother and sister bands grow here. Two of our favorites are Anchor Thieves and The Hobosapiens. You should definitely check them out!
4. How would you describe your style?
We've taken what we think are the best sounds from every era of rock'n'roll, and we've put them all together with a surf overtone. Most people compare us to Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Muse, or the Foo Fighters. But many people say that even with those comparisons that we have an entirely different sound of our own that has never really been explored by anyone else before.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
Our latest release was our full album "Mortal Ghost," which is a concept album, and is best to hear from beginning to end. Every single song is different in its own right. There are no filler songs whatsoever. Our standard is in having catchy chord progressions, interesting melodies, heavy riffs, and thought-provoking lyrics within each song. You can always expect to hear that nautical sound throughout so we can keep the Shipp sailing!
Our first release was our EP "Hold Fast To Hope," which was more a sample of our musical diversity in the rock genre. From the punk sound of "Let Go" to the Beatlesque-inspired melody of "Hackberry Tree" to the grunge sound of "F-Words" and the surf flavor of "Davy Jones Ain't Got Nothing On Me," there's a little bit of everything there. The EP was followed by our single "Sinking Scarabs," which has been a fan favourite.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We just released a single "SS Naronic," off of our "Mortal Ghost" album. This year we'll have a few other releases off of the album, followed by several new singles later this year. Keep a lookout!
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
This year we'll be doing a good deal of touring. If you're in the US, make sure you keep up to date with shows that will be happening in your city. We'll be touring with bands like Ravenhill and more!
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
Our plans are to continue creative good, catchy rock music that moves people and hopefully inspires them to become and do more while they have time on this earth. We're going to keep doing this for as long as we have fans that keep listening.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
You can hear us where ever you get your music! We're on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, YouTube, BandCamp and everywhere else. But the best place to get a physical copy of our album, or some of our sweet merch is on our website RustyShipp.com!
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
We hope that if you take the time to give our music a listen one time, that you will give it a second and third and fourth chance, so that it has time to grow on you and become something you want to keep coming back to, time and again.
